Punjab Indian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Tried Punjab because we were attending a school play at the Regent Theatre nearby (which Punjab graciously sponsored by placing an ad in the playbill). The food was excellent, particularly enjoyed the Lamb Korma, the tandoori chicken and the naan bread. Thanks to Punjab for an excellent meal!
Overall, great experience though not very cheap, though seems on par with Indian restaurants in the Boston area. Food was great, though we are not experts in Indian food so would not feel comfortable to say "exceptional".
Before arrival, we saw quite a number of reviews that completely trashed the quality of service at Punjab (2 hour waits, multiple wrong orders), so bad that we almost cancelled our reservation and went elsewhere.
We are glad we didn't, as there really was nothing we could fault: the service was actually very efficient and quick, pleasant, and professional.
I don't know why these extreme negative reviews are there, may be from a time they were re-starting (and if so, they certainly seemed to have fixed up their act), or possibly due to rivalry between Indian restaurants in the area?
Outstanding Evening of Terrific food. Our group of 6 has been eating at Indian Restaurants on MLK weekend for more years than we wish to remember. Punjab was the best so far. Fresh ingredients, distinctively different flavors to each dish and great variety. Delightfully quiet for easy conversations. Very comfortable seating. Be prepared if you order the Tandoori to wait for quite a while but well worth it. Can't wait to go back.
For some reason, we hadn't been to Punjab in several years. But when we were in the mood for Indian food, it immediately came to mind and we decided to go back. Definitely glad we did -- the food was excellent and the service great, making me wonder why we'd been away for so long.
Two people in our party had a special chicken Tikka dish that was fantastic. I had the chicken vindaloo, which was good but not as spicy as I prefer. My wife enjoyed the tandoori salmon.
I look forward to getting back to Punjab in the near future.
Happy Punjab has reopened--even happier they have returned to their former standards of excellent food and a knowledgeable wait staff. When they first reopened, we were very disappointed--portions were small (e.g. chicken Tikki Masala had only four pieces of chicken) and bland, and the wait staff were clueless and slow. Recently returned and we were very pleased!
Punjab is authentic Indian cuisine. The food is so tasty! I highly recommend sharing plates with the table as the food is so good. The meat cooked in the tandoor is never dry and the vegetarian options are so flavorful and filling. It's hard to leave room for dessert at the end!
We visited on Thanksgiving. They had turkey specials (tandoor; tiki Marsala) which we didn’t sample but appreciated knowing about — nice touch. The food was outstanding and the draught beer selection was simple but good. Service was great! The owner visited and chatted.
We visited Punjabi Indian Restaurant with out-of-town family. The decor was warm and cozy and the food was delicious! The quality and price was expected for a upscale Indian dining experience. The only thing that made our night a little less than stellar was our waitress. She was not very attentive nor on top of things. When our meal had come to a close, she was nowhere to be found. And it felt like the other staff were confused about her disappearance but they were not quick to fill in the gaps themselves or communicate with us about the situation. Other than that part of our evening, we enjoyed the dinner and will certainly give Punjabi another try!
Punjab is a beautiful restaurant in Arlington Center.
The food is exquisite and the service is friendly and efficient.
My favorite things on the menu -

- chicken tika masala
- veggie samosas and pakoras
- garlic naan
We had reserved, but were given a table in the back. The ambience here is rather different from the fairly nice feel in the front of the restaurant - it's brightly lit, noisy, and feels like a fast-food place, not somewhere for a special meal. There were also a lot of young kids running around (which to be clear is the parents' issue, not the restaurant), which didn't help.
But the food was great. Especially the dosa - hot and crispy, and the naan - fresh from the tandoor, cooked properly and with a nice dab of ghee.
Dinner with friends. The food was excellent. Service was ok, a bit slow, but manager stepped in to help the server. Wine was expensive at $10 a glass. I was surprised to see some things were extra.. like pappadums, raita, and other sauces. So many Indian restaraunts don't charge extra for those Esp pappadum. Overall.. we will return as the samosas and our entrees were delicious. I had a goat curry... more bone than meat, but delicious, my friends had chicken korma, and yellow dal. All very happy with food. Loved the decor.
The restaurant is larger for Arlington with a nice open concept. The food is good with nice flavors and quality but the service and attention to detail (like clean plates and silverware, getting order right even after repeated it correctly-still some wrong food brought) lacking. Portions small for cost-about five small pieces of meat within a sauce for curries that cost a little under $20. No pot of tea-just a cup. The noise level when crowded is quite high, which perhaps could be helped with adding some sound proofing in the ceiling and some pretty fabric over the ceiling. I want to love it as lived in India and a big fan but something just lacking. Hoping just re-opening issues that will fix themselves.
Dining was very disappointing. Both the food and service were disappointing. Punjab had been one of our favorite restaurants and go-to Indian restaurant before it closed for repairs. This is the second time we have dined there since it re-opened. Both times the service and food have been poor. This time the soup we ordered did not arrive. We waited a long time after our appetizer, thinking the soup would arrive but instead after a long wait the entrees arrived. We then had to cancel our soup order. After we finished the entrees, a busboy came and took one empty used glass off the table but left all the other dirty dishes, glasses, and utensils on the table. The busboy had room on the tray he was carrying to clear the table. He eventually returned and took the other glasses and the servers which the entrees were served but left the dirty dishes and other items on the table. Finally, after a long wait, our server returned and asked if we wanted dessert and then cleared the dishes but not the holders with the candles where the entrees had been placed. It look a long time to get dessert and we had to ask her to clear the rest of the table. The food was also very disappointing. I would say it was unspiced (rather than underspiced). It did not taste like it had any Indian spices in it at all. That was with asking that one of the entrees be medium spiced. The hot entrees were lukewarm. The bread was cool and hard rather than warm and pliable. The desserts (kheer and kulfi) were good - the only good part of the meal. (We had similar problems with service and the food the previous visit - the food was mediocre at best, the soup and entrée arrived at the same time, and we had unduly long waits between the appetizer and soup and after we finished the entrees.)
This is not the Punjab of the pre-renovations era. The server could not answer questions. We ordered one mild paneer dish which arrived spicy and had to be sent back. The other dishes were very good. The naan was hard and tasteless. We wondered if it was yesterday's naan. We asked for sweet lassis which were on the menu, and we were told they had not made them for that evening. This used to be our favorite Indian restaurant in metro west. We will be trying other restaurants to find a new favorite.
While the renovated restaurant is lovely, the service leaves much to be desired. We waited 45 minutes for our food, leaving us barely 15 minutes to eat before we had to leave for a show. The naan was stone cold, and the waiter did not match orders to diners, leaving us to shuffle stands with flames in them around the table. The entrees were quite good, but we didn't get to enjoy them. The manager did give us a gift card against the bill, but only after being asked for some kind of consideration for the horrible service. Clearly, based on the decor and menu prices, the Punjab is looking to be at the higher of the market for the area. They have a long way to go.
Glad that this restaurant has re-opened. The food is of the same high quality as before. All new wait staff and it shows. Went two times within a week. The first server we had was inexperienced, but the second time we had someone who was much better and seemed to know what he was doing.
Punjab had been closed for a year because of some kind of interior damage, so it is great to have it back. The menu has been updated and features new entrees and added drinks.
The wall art has changed, though I preferred the works that featured Indians. The music was excellent when it featured traditional instruments. The middle of the road stuff doesn't work and is an insult to the culture.
Our only quibble was slowness of chefs, for which our waiter apologized. Our food was excellent, as were the tamarind margaritas. We had no room for desert.
