We are happy to be serving to you the finest recipes from Northern India where we were born. The same fresh ingredients, herbs and spices are used here that were used by many generations of Punjabis that came before us.View Private Dining Details
The lunch special was reasonably priced, good choices, very tasty, and more than we could finish so we got to enjoy leftovers! This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants.
Food was OK. The vegetables tasted fresh and crisp but they overwhelmed the taste by the large amount of cream and clarified butter.
The wait staff, while not rude, was very inattentive and our group had a hard time trying to place the order as well as for any follow up requests.
Our waiter was terrific! We really enjoyed interacting w/ him & his wish to go beyond the usual, in terms of his understanding of & communicating re. the food preparation & seasoning.... Both dishes were superb...
My girlfriend and I had a great experience at Punjab. The food was good (not great or excellent, but just good). The atmosphere was great. It was definitely a lively restaurant. The service was great. Our waiter was on point and if I took a couple sips of the water, he was right there filling it up again.
I will most likely not go back to Punjab, but I am glad I tried it.
My wife and I visited for the first time and we had a wonderful meal with very good service!
Everything was great, except it took a long time to get the waiter's attention for the check.
The food at Punjab Indian Restaurant keeps drawing me back. I am a vegetarian and observe a gluten-free diet. They were careful in accommodating both and suggested an entree that was fabulous.
I will continue going there.
Great food but terrible service. An astounding 40 minutes passed between the time we finished our meal and the time we walked out of the restaurant.
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, comfortable for a large group.
I have dined many times at Punjab and have never been disappointed. The food is outstanding; the menu crosses several regions of the Indian sub-continent but never seems to make a false step. The breads and other accompaniments are excellent. There are many delicious vegetarian offerings for those so inclined.
Good food, nice ambiance and reasonable prices
Punjab is generally a fantastic dining-out experience, but this meal was very disappointing. Overcooked chicken, measly portions, plus comically inept service (triple number of wine glasses ordered; no explanation for overly long wait for entrees despite being beyond prime time, check processed but never delivered to our table. We've eaten at Punjab's perhaps a couple dozen times, so we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and return--but we'll be wary.
The food was not well spiced and the service was horrible! The waiter messed up our order twice and actually told me several times that I didn't understand what was going on! When he finally admitted that he was wrong after logically explaining everything to him (when he finally stopped interrupting me) I was so over this restaurant. I will never go back.
Excellent food with exception of unacceptably watery iced tea. Service a bit slow. Appetizers came at same time as entree. Noisy. Still we will go back. Food was good and server amiable.
I have been to the Punjab many times. This being said, the meal I had most recently was not as enjoyable as others I've had there. My party of three ordered a lamb dish, a potatoes and okra dish, and a cheese dish in a tomato-based sauce. The Punjab really does well with spices. All three dishes were flavorful. If you ask for spicy hot, as we did for the potatoes and okra, the dish will not be so hot that you can't taste what you are eating. The bad news is that first two dishes were slightly overcooked, something I have not experienced in the past. In particular, the lamb was tough. We all agreed that it was our least favorite. The cheese dish was superb. Overall, I really recommend this restaurant. Maybe they were having an off night.
The best Indian food in the area along with a very creative cocktail list and tasteful atmosphere. Highly recommended!
The ambiance of the place is quite nice, and the appetizers were good. Large semicircular booths look big but you can still hear each other talking; not too loud. Nice service, nice to kids. We found our entrees lacking in flavor and authenticity. Surprised to find the Achar lamb dish a little sweet; same with the chicken curry. Also the saag paneer was not spinach-y enough; rather bland flavor.
I Love this Restaurant- food is always excellent go here all of the time for years !!
Good ambiance, very good selection of appetizers. Overall a good experience!
This was our first visit and the food was excellent. The Lamb Tikka Masala was unbelievable: creamy, intense, totally delicious.
The service was our only disappointment. The hostess was chilly and harried. Our server appeared inconsistently (in clusters or not at all) and forgot two of our items, bringing them much later into the meal.
Most of the dishes were extraordinary, however, a few were mediocre (crepe related). Servise was relatively slow and unresponsive, with some entrees arriving very much later than the earlier arrivals.
Food is consistently very good, but service is a little spotty - sometimes fine, but one one or two occasions unfriendly.
Tasty Indian food, classic southern Indian dishes; decent selection of Indian beers, some even on tap!
Service was slow. Waiter did not appear for ten minutes after being seated.
not up to its usual standards. A quiet Friday night and yet service and food was only okay.
I really like it here, the the food is very good. Service is good, there are always waiters stopping by to survey the table, fill water glasses, and make sure you have enough of everything.
The food was very good, albeit a little expensive for very tiny portions. We were seated in sort of an out of the way place in the corner, in full view of the street so that everyone walking by could see. The nicer tables seemed like they were further in and maybe reserved for bigger parties or people who would spend more? Our waiter also seemed a little uncomfortable and shy, and although he was attentive, he didn't seem very happy to be there. Other than that, it was a good dining experience and we would probably go back again and see if the lunch was more our speed.
I wanted to celebrate my birthday with a few close friends and have been to the restaurant before. My friends were a bit hesitant about trying Indian food but they LOVED it. The scene was great and the food, even better. Everyone was nice. I had a good time. I suggest trying on different dishes so everyone at the table could eat from one another's plate.
Other than a horrible waiter, the place is excellent. Great food, large selection, everything I've had there is delicious.
We had appetizers and main dishes. Each course took far too long to arrive with no comments by our wait staff. Very disappointing.
We had the sauteed shrimp appetizer, the lamb & lentil stew, and the okra dish (the house specialty, not the shahi biindi). We also had vegetable pickle, and Indian ice cream for dessert. All was excellent, with the exception of the lamb dish: the sauce was bland and the lamb was dry and heavy. We will probably return.
The food at this restaurant is wonderful but the service is horrible! The waitstaff are slow to great you, slow to take your order and you'll age while you wait for your check. The waitstaff are also very unfriendly and give you the impression that the diners are annoying them.
While the food was great, the service was absolutely horrible. That, in my opinion, ruins the entire dining experience, especially when you are there with guests. I won't be returning anytime soon. Thanks for a horrible night, Punjab.
I've eaten here several times with friends. The quality of the food and variety on the menu are outstanding. Several Indian regional cuisines are featured. The restaurant is lovely.
The location on Mass Ave is convenient--public parking is nearby but street parking is often available within a block of the restaurant.
Great food and great service with a smile. One thing that threw me off a bit was the noise level. It's loud in there - the result of people chatting in the tables around which were ALL occupied.
We took the girls for their 14th birthday and we all love the food and the ambiance. Would definitely go back!
This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. The freshness and quality of food is great! As Indians, we know to be disappointed when we request something spicy at the run of the mill Indian joints - not at Punjab! The chef is not shy! A little pricey - but you get what you pay for.
This is probably our favorite Indian restaurant in all of Boston & the outlying suburbs, which is saying a lot given how much we love Indian food! Extremely tasty, with a wide variety of old favorites and more unusual dishes too.
What I was really impressed by, though, is how sweet and accomodating all the waitstaff were to our little 2-year-old -- they set her up with her own (all unbreakable) plate, utensils, water cup, etc, and kept on checking in with her. She also loves going to the big glass window in the back to watch the cook rolling out naan and using the tandoor oven too...
Food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The seating does not give any sense of privacy; feels almost cafeteria style. Good place for a casual dinner, but not date material.
As someone of north Indian origin, I tend to be very picky about Indian restaurants. This one is great. The food is really tasty, can be made very spicy, and, most importantly, is not heavy on oil, cream, or butter. It's like home-cooking, but there are a number of Punjabi specialties that I would neither have the time nor the equipment to make. In addition, the selection of beers, wines, and cocktails is quite impressive, and all are reasonably priced. The only potential drawback is the service, but it's adequate--certainly not bad. In short, this is one of the few very good dining options around West Somerville/Medford/Arlington.
