Pulehu, an Italian Grill Ratings and Reviews
Terrible experience. The hostess was rude, we waited to order a drink and tried to wave over a waiter after several just walked by us, we never got one. We did get bread and water.
We left, no need to go back for us, plenty of lovely restaurants to go to that we enjoy.
We ate here while staying at the Westin with our toddler. They have a few sections separated and smartly put the families with kids in one area. Still very beautiful with a view of the koi pond. Food was terrific, I got the fettuccini with chicken and husband got the veal. This was our best meal while in Maui!
Our last evening was saved for this restaurant and we are so happy that we did. Yes, the noise level was a bit loud but it was due to the restaurant (part of Maui Westin Villas) being just inside of an open atrium type setting. We overlooked a beautiful Koi pond with lush tropical plants and flora, that was in an open area within the Maui Westin Villas. Food and service were excellent. Highly recommend dining here for dinner. You will not be disappointed.
Food was pretty good. Lasagna came out way overcooked but rest of meal was good. We had a bad table and it was later in the evening so the floor and menus were not clean. Could use some better attention from management. Best part, we were late due to a mixup on location and they graciously still seated us. Wait staff was attentive
Pulehu used to be our most favorite restaurant in Maui. Our server was moody. We had 3 main course and lobster risotto was very salty. I was expecting to hear back from either the restaurant manager or the Chef given it's a 5 star restaurant but we didn't. Our server covered the cost of our one desert, which made me LOL. It's not about the money. It's not the kind of restaurant you go to to be price conscious but I was expecting better service. We'll give it another shot - asking for a diff server - and hopefully we won't lose going to one our favorite spots.
Delicious food, excellent wine list, pleasant ambiance. The gnocchi appetizer was the best I have ever had (and I’m an Italian who makes gnocchi and has traveled extensively in Italy). Liked it enough to plan a second visit this trip (staying at the Westin Ocean Villa resort).
Addendum: went back a second time and sorry to say the food quality was not consistent. I downgraded to a 3 star. Ordered some of the same food, including the gnocchi— while the textures and the “cook” were excellent, the flavors just not there this time. Salt? Not sure but for the price, I can no longer recommend.
Beautiful setting overlooking the expansive water ponds of the Westin Resort. The Risotto-Crusted Fish dish was extremely tasty. One of the very best fish dishes I have ever had. They miss-cooked our steak but promptly (and quickly) redid it. And, without any prompting, comped the glass of wine due to their mistake.
This is the "fancy" restaurant at this resort. That means that it is expensive. But you probably already know or expect that. The real question to ask is about the food. It is excellent. I tried the least promising item on the menu -- eggplant parmesian. Each slice of eggplant was separately breaded, crispy and then attractively laid out on a place with some cheese and surrounding sauce. It wasn't mushy or gooey -- it was crispy and tasty. This was the best version of this dish I have ever had. That says a lot for a resort restaurant. My wife had one of their fish specials and was extremely pleased. Service was attentive but not overbearing. The setting is attractive. If you're price sensitive you should probably skip Maui altogether. But if you're on the island, especially in the North Ka'anapali area, give this place a try. We enjoyed it.
We have been to this restaurant a number of times and enjoyed our meals. Perhaps this night, was simply an issue of not ordering some of their best items. The white pizza was tasty but very salty. The eggplant was good, not great. The veggies with it were better than the eggplant. Well mixed drink, helpful server.
It seemed that hotel guest were getting seated ahead of us. When we finally got seated it seemed the server did not have time or interest in dealing with us. Fortunately the manager finally came over and serviced our table. They have great wine pricing we brought our own bottles however ended up buying a bottle off their wine list at what I thought was s great price
The food and service was good. It rare that you go to a restaurant and have it come out right away. Almost like they had it ready knowing what we wanted to order. We were out within an hour. We were there celebrating my birthday. It’s rare to leave a restaurant that early. I didn’t feel rushed. I thought the pace was good. It wasn’t packed or super busy. It had a nice flow.
Sometimes you try so hard but simply a few little things put you over the top. Great location, great chef, pool-side, romantic setting, friendly staff. Why wouldn’t you enhance the whole ambience of the restaurant with candles on each table top, and have place mats or tablecloths to grace the plain, boring, frosted-glass table surfaces? Lighting and table presentation is SO IMPORTANT.
Or is it?
