Welcome to the Puddicombe House, we offer casual fine dining in an elegantly restored 1868 mansion in downtown New Hamburg. Executive Chef Jammie Monk leads the culinary team. To ensure the safety and comfort of both staff and guests, we have partially heated our veranda seating for the spring season, in addition to our existing patio fire tables. We encourage our guests to bring their own blankets for the patio if needed, to ensure a comfortable dining experience in the spring temperatures. Additionally, our indoor dining rooms are open and have been updated for your safety, with HEPA air purifiers and socially distanced seating.

An attractive Victorian house on New Hamburg's main Street, Puddicombe House seems to draw a decent Saturday lunch trade. But ambience is only one aspect of a successful restaurant. The Indian inspired soup was very good. The Hamburger with wild boar meat was tasty but the salad sides were drowning in dressing. The fries were good but it's hard to mess up fries, or a burger for that matter. The dessert menu was very limited. The choices of wine by the glass were short and over priced.
Service was very poor. Why do they tell servers to introduce themselves and tell you they are "going to look after you"? I don't want to be "looked after"I just want competent service. We were brought our wine then waited awhile for the soup. After the soup was long gone we sat watching while people who had come in after us were served their entrees. All three of us had ordered the hamburger and one wonders why it took so long to get them to our table. The coffee was fair but not very hot and long after the coffee was gone, the one dessert we were sharing arrived.
I guess one shouldn't carp given that covid has decimated the restaurant trade but it would be best to stage the re-opening of a restaurant when all the essential elements are in place. Despite the poor service we tipped our server because we felt an obligation to look after her better than she looked after us.

The total experience was OK, just OK. When booking my reservation I was asked if this was a special occasion to which I replied yes, (it was my wife's birthday). Not sure why I was asked as it certainly made no difference while we were there. A cupcake would have been nice....something. finished with an expresso, but had to ask for a spoon and sugar. A tiny piece of biscotti would have been a nice touch like you see at most other establishments.
The 2 girls (1 in training) serving our table were very pleasant.

Loved everything !
Only thing that wouldn’t stop bothering us were the black flies but not much I think that can be done about that.

Went there for the first time recently and it was fantastic. The food was outstanding and the service was great. I would highly recommend trying it out vs. going to the same old chain restaurants.

The service was absolutely fantastic right from the hostess to our table. At that point Emma took over. Not once were we rushed but she was always attentive to our needs. Great job Emma. The apps were fresh hot and delicious. Perfect time between them and our mains. More than enough to fill you up. Ended taking some home. Ended the evening with a special coffee. All was super. We will definitely return. If your on the fence just go. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for a great night out

We happened upon this place because we had cancelled a trip to the US due to rising Covid counts. Although disappointed to not be able to travel, we were delighted that this was our first stop on a Southwestern Ontario road trip! The atmosphere was lovely, the staff welcoming, accommodating, and the food was really good. Karen, the frittata this morning was an 11/10! Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

We’ll be back!

Puddicombe House has a great menu delivered by great staff. The patio setting is well thought out and comfortable. That menu includes many interesting items that are unique interpretations by the Puddicombe chef and everything ordered at our table was thoroughly enjoyed. The wait staff are excellent, know the menu and deliver it very well.

The service, ambiance and drinks were excellent. The food was also very good, although both our pasta and pizza were almost too flavourful (I never thought I’d say that). There was a lot going on, and both of us found the tastes lingered for a while. Overall though, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the evening. We’ll come back!!
