Cute little space. Prize fixe menu that night so not much interaction with our server but everything was described & was delicious but over priced ($115 per person on Valentines Day). Maybe less expensive at another time. Live music was a nice touch but too loud- making conversation with my husband a little difficult
Pucquio has a separate ceviche menu with numerous selections. Each ceviche dish is meticulously prepared with fish that were quite literally swimming less than 24 hours ago. Delicious and beyond compare – at least in the Bay Area. This food is authentic down to the spices the chef obtains from Peru. Interesting South American wine choices. The only complaint is the restaurant is tiny and with the stereo blaring and customers interacting, it can be loud and difficult to hear. But if you can handle that, you are in for a gastronomiclly orgasmic experience.
Carlos consistently prepares really wonderful Peruvian food. The ceviches are amazingly fresh and flavorful. All of the seafood is sushi quality. The shrimp bisque is just fantastic. And Carlos is a wonderful person who loves to share the beauty of his homeland. This is a gem of a restaurant! Try it out!
OK, start off with the food is terrific but you'll be hungry unless you're prepared to go deep on the menu... appetizers and ceviche are $18 and $20 respectively and the portions are 'sharable' if you both only want a bite or two. The $8 plantains were 5 small slivers. Plan on a 2nd course (a main) and plan on these being spendier than your average Tuesday night dinner place (again, food is good and was plated beautifully but was really pricey if you came hungry). Wine by the glass was $13 regardless of the pour. Bottles were almost identical at $52 so really no value in ordering a bottle compared to by the glass if you want more than one glass. Selections were kind of random.
I can't recommend the place but not because of the food-- because of the ambiance. It is small (maybe 18 people can sit) and SOOOOO LOOOUUUUUDDDDD you can't possibly have a conversation without shouting. We sat opposite each other at a small two-top and couldn't hear each other without leaning together at mid-table and talking directly in each others' ears. If that's your vibe, you'll love it but I was annoyed from the moment we sat down and it never improved.
All in all we dropped about $130 on small plates, went away hungry, and turned the radio off to enjoy some silence on the drive home.
I had heard about Pucquio from a friend and after looking at the menu, decided to try it for my husband’s birthday. It was amazing! The food was awesome, service was excellent (especially Antonio who gave us a cultural and history lesson along with our meal). We will definitely be back.
There are few places in the Bay Area that combine the authentic cuisine of fresh seafood with such friendly and welcoming hospitality. It is still and will always be my favorite place to dine in the area.
We had dinner here on New Year's eve. The only menu that was available was a prix fixe menu which listed the courses but did not include a price. However on OpenTable the price and menu were posted indicating $125 per person. Imagine our surprise when we were charged $175 pp not including wine or gratuity. The food was good - but no where near worth this price.! The couple at the table next to us were equally astonished. The next day , still upset about the cost and the discrepancy between what was posted on open table and what we were charged I emailed the restaurant requesting an explanation. They have not offerd one nor have they responded to me. I feel duped and definitely won't be back.
We love Pucquio. We have dined with chef/owner Carlos many times now and have never been disappointed with the authentic, creative Peruvian meals he creates. The food is superlative! The ingrediants are fresh, local and delicious. The wine list is inventive and beautifully matched to the dishes! Plus Carlos is really great about accommodating some dietary restrictions I have owing to an illness. It is a terrific restaurant!
If you enjoy watching a pro work in the kitchen, while you’re nibbling on appetizers, sit at the bar and you’ll have a front row seat to a very talented chef in his element.
To make it all even better, the quality of the food Carlos prepares is second to none in the realm of cebiche and other classic Peruvian dishes.
What an amazing experience. Everyone was so kind and he food was so amazing. It felt like being at a friend's house but having an amazing gourmet meal. Well done! We will be back!
Delicious, high-end Peruvian food in an intimate, casual, fun environment. You feel like you've been invited to someone's home for dinner. And happily, they are great cooks!
Great waiter and he organized a complete dinner with outstanding suggestions.
I love the food and wine. The sauces and fish are incredible. People dont want to leave after dinner. The atmosphere is cozy, inviting, and fun!
Chicharon is amazing! The ceviche is creatively presented with delicious flavors.
Always great - our third visit this year. One of our all time favorite places
This was our second time eating here and we’ll definitely be back. Delicious food, beautiful presentations and the owner and staff couldn’t be nicer. Our new favorite!
We travel to the Bay area a couple of times a year. We never miss an opportunity to eat at this little gem.
Great food friendly people nice ambience awesome drinks
Pucquio is described as refined Peruvian street food - I describe it as delicious! The ceviches - you must have at least one. They a trio offering - ask the server to recommend which three. You will be blown away by the fresh fish and bright flavors. The pork belly confit appetizer is a must-have. And then entrees - take your pick - they are all great. Come with friends - order a few entrees and share, family style. The service is friendly - kitchen can be a little slow - but the food is worth the wait. This is a small restaurant - cozy seating, open kitchen, family friendly atmosphere. My absolute favorite restaurant in Rockridge!!!!
Excellent service, really interesting food. We had a seasonal cebiche and a whole fish. The cebiche serving was fairly small, but excellent fish and a very good sauce. The fish was fried and served in what was basically a cioppino. It was very tasty and once again everything was very fresh and good. I had the red sangria, which was unusual and not too sweet. It was chilled with a large ice cube that had slices of cuke frozen in it, a nice visual and taste touch. We finished with the Peruvian "beignets", and that was more than enough for my wife and myself.
Service was knowledgeable, friendly and generous. My wife was offered several tastes of wine before choosing one and they serve endless little bowls of highly addictive fried corn. The owner came out to greet us after dinner and seemed genuinely grateful that we patronized the restaurant.
We live in the neighborhood and have passed by this restaurant many times in the 4 years it's been open. We'll stop in again!
Food was amazing with wonderful flavors and presentation. Wine list was spectacular. The whole staff, including owners, cooks, and servers are extremely kind, pleasant, and giving. Overall an amazing experience.
Our waiter was extremely knowledgable and helpful with the menu. Food was excellent--we had three ceviches and shared a steak with mushrooms. It was a warm night and we sat outside. The restaurant is small so I would definitely recommend reservations.
We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the artistry (and fun!) happening in the kitchen. These dishes are made with love, and you can taste it!
Delicious dishes with fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, wonderful service. We loved it and would definitely go back.
Such a special place! Very warm ambiance and great service. The chef, Carlos, is a great host!
Extraordinary food, creative and smart. Amazing service and the atmosphere was great (they have a live band every Wednesday).
One of the best meals I had in a long time, highly recommended.
Excellent food. The chef really has some fascinating flavors going on. The ceviches are not the towering cup of fish you'd normally expect, but clever well plated dishes that challenge preconceived notions.
Almost everything else was in need of improvement. Our server was disorganized, hard to get his attention, couldnt remember what was available, the courses were spaced too far apart, we consistently ran out of water and they didnt have bottles for the table, and in general we felt like we were more of a burden than guests. The staff was all very nice but uncoordinated. With a tighter ship I'm sure this place would shine. The kitchen is carrying it all right now.
This is a great little restaurant and the food is interesting and quite good. I would rate it higher for the food, but the prices are way too high for such a small place with simple decor.
We went here for our wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. It's it was less expensive, we'd eat here all the time. We had a cebiche trio, a pork and fig disk and a steak and plantain dish. We also tried the red sangria and were very happy. The food was all delicious and the staff was lovely!
Great! Food is fresh! I like to get the "Chupe de Camarones" delicious!
This was my third time at Pucquio. Great specials which we took advantage of and they (causa) were delicious. The main course (seafood in a green buere Blanca with rice and beans) was amazing. Such interesting flavors which I had not tasted before. Great dining experience if you want something unique.
