Had a great meal - we had to wait a little while for the server to come take our order (tiny restaurant, one server who was also a chef), but once he got to us, the service was great. He let us taste wines, brought our food out pretty quickly and answered all of our questions. Food was delicious - fish was extremely fresh and the flavors were great. Would definitely go back.
Outstanding food and service. A dining experience with close attention from the restaurateur. We were a party of five and as such the owner asked our dietary preferences and hunger level and picked a menu for the table, which was served family style. Not inexpensive but a very memorable evening.
We have twin preschoolers, and whenever we have a date night, Pucquio is one of our favorite spots to dine. If you love cebiche (ceviche) as we do, or just enjoy fresh seafood, please visit this restaurant! The husband/wife team have created a warm and welcoming environment in this small setting. We linger over our glass of wine or sangria as we enjoy each cebiche dish one after the other. The ingredients are fresh and simple, but prepared beautifully. We often choose 4-5 cebiches and the chicharon, while sitting at a table. But, next time we'll sit at the bar to watch the chef, and explore the second courses. We're always recommending this place to friends and family.
Awesome experience! The most authentic Peruvian food in the Bay Area! Fantastic ambience and customer service!
Outstanding in every possible way! The service was particularly helpful and attentive. Everyone should try this place.
Very good food but overpriced; this is as expensive as La Mar in San Francisco (Peruvian restaurant on prime real estate on the water with excellent food). I would consider coming back if prices came down ~20-25%.
I never write reviews but I am compelled to post because the prices for the food at this restaurant were so obscene! You can go to several other Peruvian restaurants in the area and get much better quality for half of the price. Food wasn’t all bad, but wasn’t great. Below average. I will say the ceviche was good. The service was poor as well. I was very disappointed :(
Anything I have eaten there are high quality, but I wish their prices were a few bucks lower, so I could go there more often.
We had four different main courses which all were top notch in flavor, presentation and individually unique. A meratage of flyovers, all well balanced.
Same goes for the salad
I like that i’s a small place, thus having things under control.
Very good service.
Food is fresh and local!
For sure will go back.
Fabulous tasting, creative fish. Friendly atmosphere. I love this restaurant.
The food and hospitality was amazing!!! It’s not often where I can’t decide what my favorite part of the meal was!! Everything was so delicious. The Ceviche s .... superb.
The food is beautiful and small. We were ignored for about 10-15 mins, which was not a good thing. But once the server/chef came over, he was attentive the rest of the night. The portions are small for the price, but beautifully presented. The wine list was really interesting.
Fun place to go,wonderful service, food was delicious. It’s small and can be a little bit loud but we were there on a Friday night when people were just happy to be out and socializing. over all our group had a wonderful time and everything we tried was just beautifully cooked and presented!
Decided to take my wife out for her birthday and was looking at taking her to a new restaurant that we had not been. I read the reviews for Pucquio and took at chance on booking a reservation. Boy did that chance pay off! My wife and I loved the dining at Pucquio. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. They had a few things on the menu that we shared and really enjoyed.
A couple of things to note: if you plan on dining, you will be there for awhile. They took there time to deliver the food which created a great opportunity to have a pleasant conversation at the restaurant. If you are rushing, you may be a little annoyed. In addition, it is a a fairly small location, so be prepared to be close to other parties.
Overall a fantastic location to try some amazing Peruvian food.
Best Peruvian food in Bay area. Chef Carlos is a genius
An elegant and refined Peruvian experience in a tiny but cute space. Don't be in a hurry; food is cooked to order and beautifully presented. Cebiche was excellent as was a very fine baby octopus starter with an exceptional green sauce. Spouse said the Chupa de Camarones here was the best he's ever had in any Peruvian restaurant. The Adobo de Chancho was a hefty hunk of tender braised pork shoulder with a slight pickled taste, amazing creamy beans and crispy shavings of white yam. Picked a tropical ice cream for dessert and the Pisco-soaked fruit was FABULOUS. Loved the limade, which had hardly any sugar in it for a nice tart fresh flavor. Next time I'm trying the fried fish that all the reviewers/food bloggers were raving about!
The attention to detail at this restaurant is spectacular. They serve some of the best aceviche I have ever eaten. The staff and owner make you feel very welcome . Th e service is relaxed, not rushed, which may be undesirable for people who like to rush through their meal, but is very nice for patrons seeking an experience similar to one you would get dining out in a South or Central American country.
Absolutely one of the best meals in the entire Bay Area. Pucquio stands on its own as an icon of Peruvian food in the same manner that Chez Panisse is representative of California cuisine. The food, ambiance and wine are a special experience that can not be found at any other Peruvian restaurant in the Bay Area. Don't miss sitting at the counter and wanting the chefs create their magic. Excellent wine list as well. Enjoy!
Delicious food, very fresh ingredients, took me right back to being in Peru!
Great ambiance, gourmet food. It’s pricey but it’s well worth it.
Great food. Service was a little slow but worth the wait.
My wife and I went for valentines day. They has a preset menu at $125/person. I always know Valentines day can be expensive, however, I expected a little bit more. The food was good itself, the scallops were served a bit cold, but other dishes were good. We were a bit cold inside the restaurant. I would have also liked to have been explained a bit about the food we were eating. My wife and I were looking up some of the dishes on our phones, instead of having a dialogue with the front staff. To their credit, there were only two of them for about 8-10 tables of two (not including the bar).
I wish I could have given the restaurant a higher ranking, however for the price that I paid it just wasn't justified.
The food far surpassed our expectations. The service was exceptional and the server gave us great recommendations for entrees. The noise level was a bit much at times due to the close seating and large party that overstayed their welcome. I will definitely be returning soon to Pucquio and will recommend to many of my colleagues and clients.
Very original dishes. I would love to learn how to make some of these dishes.
A lovely neighborhood Peruvian restaurant.
come prepared to take your time and really savor. it's special!
One of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. Pucquio is the Chez Panisse of Peruvian restaurants--the food is fresh, perfectly prepared, and is an outstanding experience. Don't miss sitting at the counter top/bar and watching the owner chef Carlos make the food, create the sauces and plate the food. It's a world-class experience and a great evening. Excellent Latin American and Spanish wine selection. Enjoy!
We had a fantastic meal at Pucquio. Our host Carlos was delightful and charming. The food was like nothing any of us had ever tasted. Truly sublime. I would recommend to anyone looking for an intimate, authentic, gastronomic experience.
Food was a beautiful balance of favorites and innovation. Service was amazing and so attentive.
The ceviche does not get any better than this. All dishes are perfectly and authentically prepared. The only downside is this is a very small restaurant and, if it is crowded, it is very cramped and you are quite literally eating dinner with your neighbors.
I noted that we were celebrating my fiance's birthday on OpenTable and the hostess brought us complimentary glasses of rosé right when we sat down! Food was delicious! Highly recommend.
first time here- intimate space- only 6-8 tables, very casual, very relaxed, never hurried- nice change from
many of the slick "artist gallery"minimal boutique restaurants that seem to proliferate and try to move you on.
this is primarily fish although they are some offerings of red and chicken meat (but why would you?-).
pucquio (peruvian ) is more about the food and preparation,- and what a treat it was.
carlos and his wife lisette are maestros at what they do- cebiche (mosaico) has never tasted so elegant and captures the subtlety of what a master can do with fish. and lissete was elegant, humble and always suave
whenever we inquired about what we had ordered. she was a delight.
the mixed (solterito) appetizer of seared fish was also a smash- leaving the "sashimi " elegance
of the interior to float in the flashed and seared exterior.
topping it off with an entire dish for 2 (the chita frita con picante) which included shellfish and the head of a sea bass? with enough meat on there to feed 3. cooked in an broth of tumeric that pulled it all together.
with no prompting from our hosts to rush this beautiful meal ,we ate more than any restraint we may have attempted, but it was undeniably a wonderful experience and one we will return to. bravo lisette and carlos!!!
Very good food and a high level of service, but be prepared to wait. On our last visit there were three people in the kitchen, including the owner who was also the only server. Our meal took at least two hours and I think closer to three.
We sat for two hours with our coats on, as the table was near the thin window. Service was extremely slow, from taking order to delivering to table. Dishes were mediocre. We had better experience at P. in the past. We shall not return.
Best peruvian restaurant in bay area!
Great food and ambient !
One of the best meals I have ever had. This is a personal experience, which we shared with the staff by sitting at the bar. They shared the ingredients and process with us, and were very personable. The blend of flavors and presentation are exceptional, and one of the best Lomo Saltado’s I’ve enjoyed, not to mention fresh, creative Ceviche. This is not a place to enjoy a quick bite, but rather a place to enjoy some exquisite Peruvian cuisine!
The food was delicious and unique, service very good, but I felt the main courses were overpriced for what you got.
An unexpected wonderful surprise. Food was amazing (the ceviche is not to be missed) and service was attentive and customized (my husband is Celiac and the chef came personally to our table to tell us how he was modifying to meet his needs.) A lovely neighborhood gem that we will return to.
Amazing. In every way.
