We met family staying in Boston. Great halfway destination between Connecticut - Hartford area and Boston. The chicken pot pie was the best I have ever had and the wait staff was very friendly with great service

great restaurant to celebrate any occasion. We frequent the restaurant to celebrate family birthdays and anniversaries. best cinnamon buns to die for and great bread basket.
the restaurant is well run from the bakery to the dinner table. I pre-ordered a birthday cake that was delivered to the table in a perfect manner. the waitress was well informed about the cake.
and lastly our waitress Haley was the best waitress at The Public House. She was perfect. Her personality and friendliness was definitely a "10"
Thank you for a great birthday celebration. Jerry Mintz

Publick House was recommended to us as a great meeting place for lunch between Worcester and Hartford. It is easily accessible from I-84 and the Mass Pike by a short drive. It’s a large place with an old historic inn and restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and portions are substantial. We definitely enjoyed our family lunch!

Great menu, ample meal portions and very attentive but not intrusive service. Historic inn atmosphere was conducive to lingering conversations. Very enjoyable noontime dining experience.

My brother and sister-in-law often get together with me and my husband to go out to eat in the Sturbridge area. Last week, we went to the Publick House for an evening meal. Area newspapers offer buy one, get one free coupons for the Publick House restaurant for Mondays through Wednesdays, so you get a fantastic meal for a great price! We had the Complete Meal Choice which included an entree with a choice of two sides (soup, salad, or dessert) for only $9 extra. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had and my entree of the baked haddock was exceptional. The turkey dinner is always great and the roasted duck that my sister-in-law ordered was very tender and delicious. The only disappointment was in the Indian Pudding that I had for dessert. It looked like a brownie, cut in a square. The molasses was very strong and wasn't like the Indian pudding that I have had at the Publick House in the past. In my opinion, they should go back to the original recipe. With that being said, the ambience was wonderful (downstairs dining room), the service was spot on, and we had a wonderful meal.

We were celebrating four family birthdays - our waitress April was wonderful! Only issue we had was we sat at a rectangular table and it was hard to visit with those on the opposite end - next time would request a round table!

I hadn't been here in a long time. My memory was great N.E. traditional food. I was sorely disappointed in my tasteless pot roast dinner. However, 2 out of the 5 had pot roast and we both felt the same way. The other 3 in my party thought the food was ok but nothing more.

Two friends, one from the Boston area and one from the western Ct. area met here for lunch.

We have done this before and always found The Publick House in Sturbridge to be a great mid point for both of us and they are always welcoming, with good food, service and easy parking...

Family favorite for decades. Can't miss with the turkey dinner! Very diligent with food sensitivities with a very robust gluten-free menu and even gluten-free rolls. We always take home leftovers to make sure we save room for yummy desserts! We look forward to returning soon!

The Publick House never fails to disappoint and the pre-Valentine day dinner was no exception. From the sticky buns served before dinner through the Valentine specials, an excellent wine list topped off with a perfect creme brulet made for a memorable evening with our friends. The evening continued to the next day with breakfast treats from Bake Shoppe.

We loved our birthday gathering here. The atmosphere was a lot of fun especially if you like old houses turned into restaurants, it is a beautiful building, our waitress was extra knowledgeable about the menu and was very pleasant. Everyone loved their meal. The reason I did not give 5 stars on food was because the green beans were very plain and the spaghetti squash was clumpy. But I would definitely go back and try another meal.

Interesting selection of New England Classics and newer favorites. Enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and the pan roasted free range chicken. They serve an excellent bread basket with home made cinnamon buns and corn bread, can be a bit tricky for those with a nut allergy so speak up if that's an issue for your party. Service was excellent, our server tried to accommodate dietary needs and was gave helpful feedback on the menu. Beautiful, historic location with a massive parking lot behind the inn. Great for groups, but make a reservation.

We return here sporadically; it's a bit of a drive, otherwise we'd go more often.

Very traditional ambiance and menu. So, good if you like that sort of thing (we do), or if you want to bring out of the area guests for something New Englandy.

They do a lot of functions here, and at times it can get quite busy, and I think the service suffers a bit at those times. This time was the day of the Patriots game, so it was not as busy as usual.

Food is usually good, but can be inconsistent. This time it was much better than last couple of times. I had the duck which was nicely roasted and not greasy. The sauce was very good, and I would have like a bit more of it. Their mashed potatoes are rich - I suspect they use cream, and the accompanying asparagus was perfectly cooked.

Dining companion had wedge salad followed by scallops for the main course. The blue cheese dressing was exceptional. The salad, which is a simple preparation, had lots of bacon surrounding the iceberg lettuce. If I had made this at home, I would have thrown the bacon in the microwave for a few seconds so it could appear on the salad hot and crisp.

For dessert we split the Indian pudding; it's one of my favorites, and it seemed different this time, with an even deeper, spicier flavor. I was tempted to order a second serving.

All in all, this is a nice excuse to get out of the house after being trapped by cold and snow for what seems ages.

All five diners at our table were happy with the variety of menu choices, and the quantity and quality of the food. (The bread basket was especially popular.) The fire in the fireplace was welcoming. Our server Janet was attentive and informative. Overall a very pleasant dining experience!

The restaurant is not handicap accessible. The restaurant is a very old inn, that has been added on and added on and then added on again. There is handicap parking out front but your person still has to climb 5 steep steps to the interior. To get from the back parking to the restaurant, you have to wander of maze of hallways. The waitress had to travel between the bar and the restaurant for drinks which required long absences for the beverages. My nephew's cup of coffee had a wine cork in it (yuck) and my water glass was stuck to the table (very sticky surface). The food was average but I think people come to the location for the historic environment. I would recommend that the restaurant staff be trained to welcome the guests to the Publick House, ask if they have been to the restaurant before and would they be interested in hearing the history of the House. The staff should be fluent in old town Sturbridge history including any significant guests that stay in the Inn, any battles, claims to fame. There is a beautiful resource in the Publick House and they should maximize the attraction. The owners should put some time into scrubbing and finishing table surfaces and having a keen eye for cleanliness. The water glasses, which were empty when we arrived, did not appear clean, maybe someone with greasy fingers set the table. Again, this restaurant could be an amazing and cozy experience but right now it needs some attention and TLC.

Food quality was not that good. Although the waitress was very pleasant it did not make up for the food. The scallop dish was mediocre, the crab cake was cold with an unimpressive taste. The other dishes were so-so. I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends.

This is an historic inn from the 18th century and a stone's throw from Sturbridge Village. Their specialty is turkey dinner which is served every day. However, they also have great seafood and a gastro menu that is extensive. They have kept the dining rooms and bar in the fashion of 1780 and also have rooms available.
We had our family Christmas get together here this year and April, our waitress, made it a very special occasion.

We had a reservation on a Wednesday for 5:45, arrived and was seated on time, but waited for 20 minutes before anyone took our drink order, waited another 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. We ordered when the drinks arrived and it was another 45 minutes before our meals arrived. Excuse for bad service was they were crowded and our waiter had many tables to cover including a group of 11 in another room. I understand it is a week before Christmas and lots of people are out but it's managements responsibility to plan the staff levels properly so everyone is treated fairly. Meals were very good as usual and I would expect not to have this poor service next time we come to the Public House.
