Publick House Ratings and Reviews
Our server , Cameron, went above and beyond the call of duty. He noticed that one of the turkey dinners had a very small portion of dark meat. half dark & half white was ordered.
He brought to our table an additional serving of dark meat turkey. He was very polite and accommodating.
We loved the Publick House. Great food and better atmosphere. Our waitress, Shirley was terrific! We were meeting with old friends we don't see often. The meal was relaxed and pace allowed good conversation right in front of the fire place.
Will definitely be back.
The service at the Publick House was exceptional. The staff made us feel welcome and made sure we had some privacy for our mini baby shower.
The food was good - especially the bread basket and the desserts!
Guests at the lunch traveled from NY, NJ, CT and MA. All would do it again.
This restaurant is a New England treasure. Our server, Janet, was efficient and friendly. She really added to our festive get together. Incredible food and Autumn ambiance made our visit to The Publick Inn one we will certainly remember. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
I was there, reservations made through Open Table, twice this week on 11/7 and 11/9 and were lucky enough to have Janet as our server both times. Terrific service and so welcoming! I will always ask for her. This Inn is about half way between where I live in Massachusetts and my friends in Connecticut so we use this as a halfway location.
Everything was great! The only problem was parking for handicap and not knowing where to go in for our reservations. We ended up in the "open table" room not knowing that there was another area where we had our reservations. The hostess was very gracious and and gave us the option to stay where we were or to go out and around the building to the dining room. It was too much walking for my friend who is handicapped. The waitress was very good and was very attentive to us.
This is a great place for classic for New England comfort food. Is it breaking culinary innovation boundaries? No. But that's not really what you come here for. Tasty food prepared well, served by a terrific and well-oiled waitstaff, and enjoyed in a colonial inn atmosphere...THAT's what you come here for. The turkey dinner, grilled pear, and pecan tart were all delicious. And people go nuts for the basket of breads and pastries served while you check out the menu. Other notes: upstairs dining room takes reservations, large bar and dining room one level down does not. There's a bakery with lots of items to take home (just check the hours). And really pretty spots to sit and chat outside and inside the inn/restaurant buildings. Landscaping and a well kept exterior are bonuses.
Dining at the Publick House is always a pleasure. The atmosphere is charming, the grounds were beautiful and the service is excellent. Seamus was our waiter and he was fantastic, very attentive, not at all intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu and very thoughtfully anticipated all our needs.
I loved this restaurant but I made special arrangements for my dad's birthday to have a corner table (quiet) and a dessert brought over with a candle. Hostess didn't smile and seemed like we were bothering her when we got there.... Room was extremely loud. I went back to confirm cake for my dad with candle and she answered rudely it was set. Dessert with candle never came. Sent an email to the manager - no reply. Wouldn't return!
Made reservations for a Saturday(10/14/17) at 12 :30 pm, though there was no-one in front of us and numerous empty tables it still took the receptionist a seemingly long time to seats us, a party of 4. Once seated it took another 15-20 minutes for a waitress to approach our table and that happened only after we flagged one down as she passed us ( she was not the one assigned to our table). I might add that we noticed numerous waiters and waitresses milling around not much to do! Totally unreasonable wait! Management needs to re-organize their front desk operations regarding assigning wait staff and ensuring that the staff is fulfilling their assignments. The food itself was good, but the delay spoiled the day!
Enjoyed our stay Love the old Inn .Food was a little disappointing. Breakfast, in particular I had eggs benedect and found the english muffin not toasted Ham too thick ( s/b Canadian Bacon) and home fries had a off taste to them. Minor details but important. All in all a good stay
The food was very good and the service was relaxed, which we enjoyed. The atmosphere was pleasant, with one major exception. The lighting was so bright (think Mickey D's on a sunny afternoon) that I wished I had brought sunglasses. It was 9PM on a Saturday evening and it could have greatly improved the atmosphere. The hostess finally unscrewed a couple of bulbs which helped.
Waitress was helpful and efficient but not in sight very often. Was not a problem but it could have been. Had the Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and squash. They provided a whole gravy boat on the side so you can add more to whatever you like. Plenty of food and excellent. Have an option to split the plate for $5 which could be handy. Also had creme brûlée for dessert. Large enough that I could have shared but good enough that I finished it all.
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE PUBLICK HOUSE FOR YEARS (USED TO GO THERE AS A KID TO TRICK OR TREAT THROUGH THE DINING ROOMS) IT HAS HAD MANY INN KEEPERS OVER THE YEARS SOME GOOD (SOME NOT SO GOOD). THE PRESENT OWNERS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BRING IT BACK TO IT'S "OLD GLORY" AND MUCH MORE. A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT, EAT AND STAY. CONGRATS TO THE INN KEEPERS OF THE PUBLICK HOUSE FOR MAKING STURBRIDGE COMMON ONE OF THE MOST BEATIFUL IN NEW ENGLAND.
