Publick House Ratings and Reviews
Pleasantly surprised. The more recent Yelp and Open Table reviews leave something to be desired, and I was worried when my friends and I decided to dine here again. The last time, roughly 6 months ago, wasn't very good. This time we were seated in a quiet room by the fireplace and far away from the noise of the bar. The service was much better than last time. Our food came quickly and was delicious. I had the salmon, one friend had the burger and another friend had a pasta dish. All were generously portioned and cooked properly. Glad we gave it another chance.
Absolutely the worst restaurant ever. Food was unavailable, dry, overpriced and not cooked to order. Worst yet, the manager had the nerve to tell us it was a busy week and the 400.00 bill could not be ammended to reflect the numerous complaints we had. One drink was pawned off as a better one, never try that on a bourbon conneiseiur. Will NEVER attempt this joke of an establishment again, nor recommend to anyone. Very sorry to have wasted my friends money and time. Avoid this place.
When a restaurant includes gratuity, servers do not care. Server did was hard to find and also did not bring out appetizers. Brought out main dishes and no apps. When questioned, server really did not care and asked what we ordered.
Very poor service. Then it made sense when the gratuity was already included in the check. Restaurant was not busy either. Server only had a few tables.
Met friends for dinner. The owners were attentive and very friendly. Food was delicious. Happened on taco Tuesday with a trivia contest. Atmosphere was a little loud because of the contest, but we could hear ourselves converse nonetheless. Will go again and again.
Made dinner reservations for 3 on Open Table. Lots of empty tables but we were seated in the bar side of the building. Nearby bar seats were full of very energetic folks which made the whole place very loud and harder to talk at the table. Service was incredible.(Thank you). Food came out in a record 5-10 minutes which makes me question if it came out of a boilly bag. It all tasted good but not like it was freshly prepared to order. Drinks were excellent. Likely go back for bar & apps rather than dinner.
I've been a fan of PH for awhile, but this was my first time back in about 4 years. I ordered the arugula salad with chicken. I love this salad, but it definitely seemed smaller than I remembered. It was also completely missing the candied walnuts, and was very skimpy on the pears and goat cheese. The chicken was generous, but not worth the $7.95 upcharge (on top of the $10 salad). Very poor value. My two friends got pizzas and they looked delicious and are a fair value at $11 and $13.
Besides the food, our service was terrible. We sat outside on the patio and I think once we ordered, our waiter basically disappeared and didn't return until we had asked a different server for our check and to-go boxes. Our glasses weren't refilled and we had to wait a rather long time to pay and leave since our server was MIA.
We were a bunch of childhood friends getting together so we had a lot of talking to do. Waiter was constantly at our table which at a point became annoying. There were plenty of tables open so it's not like we were holding anyone up. I ordered the Lobster Mac N Cheese. It was a runny cheese sauce with no flavor, disappointing for the price. Once the band started in the bar next door it was very loud and hard to have a conversation at our table.
We were 2 senior couples who have met at the Publick House for many years because of its location and good food. This time the music was so loud that we were unable to hear each other speak. Our repeated requests to turn down the amplification was ignored. We were forced to leave early. The food and the table service was good. As we left we registered our complaint with what appeared to be the management and were ridiculed in response. We shall not return.
I made reservations at The Publick House for Father's Day 2017 because I had heard such great things about the food. I was very disappointed. I'll start at the very beginning. Our server, Marcus had to be asked twice to bring my wine and my husband's soda... They were not busy at all, but even so, it really wasn't a big deal at first. When it was time to order, I was really excited to try the Chilean Sea Bass, and my hubby not being the adventurous type, went with a bacon cheeseburger. He specifically asked for JUST bacon and American cheese. His burger came out with an onion and pickle stacked on the top bun (they serve it open faced), so we requested a new top bun only... They took the whole plate back and came back out with a tomato and onion on the top bun... Like, what?? I couldn't believe it- he didn't even bother asking again... Like really? Come on, people- onions seep into everything they touch! My sea bass looked amazing, but I couldn't finish it because once I got to the center, it was translucent and I believe undercooked. The escarole and bean it was served with was delicious, though. At the end of the meal, Marcus came to clear some of the dishes, and proceeded to throw the dirty napkins on my plate; what if it wasn't under cooked and I had wanted to take the rest home? I know that sounds like a lame complaint, but think about it; you didn't finish your meal and the server comes and throws dirty napkins on it without even asking if you wanted to get it wrapped to go? At the very least, the gelato was amazing and my five year old ate most of her chicken fingers (chicken fingers aren't exactly the type of thing to write home about, though...). If we ever decide to go back, which is very unlikely, it will strictly be for the gelato. I'm sorry Publick House, I really had high hopes for you! :-(
Had no idea when we arrived to take Mom out that the only choice was brunch. That being said I was fine that was my only choice for food although I would have rather have been able to choose from a menu. I would have thought that there would have been something said on their website that only brunch was being served for Mother's Day. Our party of four arrived at 12:30. Waiter came over and immediately took our drink order, we only ordered soft drinks. Setup for food was extremely cramped and food selection was par. Food was warm rather than hot. When we returned for desert there was barely anything left and it was not being replenished. We were shocked at the bill ($200) which we were told when it was handed to us that gratuity was included. For the price we were charged I would have expected a much better selection of items. Having worked in the restaurant industry, and also having children work in this industry, I would never not leave a tip. However to bring one round of drinks and clear four dishes did not warrant a 20% gratuity on such an outrageous per person charge for mediocre food at best. Very disappointed with today's experience.
The Publick House is a beautiful and historic building. They had a good amount of food choices. It is very pricey. I ordered a garden salad that cost $10. I did not like it as it was very bitter. I ordered the chicken picatta which was good. Your only choice of potato was mashed. It was very dry and bland. The mixed veges were also good. Dinner for the two of us with a couple of drinks (no dessert or appetizers) cost $85 plus tip. I probably would not go there again. I don't feel like I got my money's worth.
it was my first time. Requested a quiet corner table. We were given that. Their were 3 other couples in the room and we were all spaced out. We didn't even get our appetizer when a worker placed a mom with her 10 year old son right next to us. Their table was so close that we just sat there listening to their loud voices and conversation. They ordered pizza. We ordered $130 several course meals. Very disappointing! There were many open tables so they easily could have sat them anywhere else to text during their meal. My chicken francaisse and potatoes and veggies were lukewarm, nothing great and pretty bland. Almost like an Applebees type food. My husband got the rack of ribs and loved them. Very Good sauce. Triple layer dessert was the best part. Don't think I'd return anytime soon. (This was a pizza & bar kind of place. )
The restaurant had great food, good atmosphere and overall a very good evening. Our waitress admitted it was her first night so there was a minor issue with the salad course coming out late but the rest of the staff picked up the slack ( and we were offered the salads for free; which was very nice) and overall we had a great night. Thanks,
Delicious and ample portions surprised and delighted me and my siblings at our annual get-together. The specials were great and cooked perfectly, and my house burger was big and yummy (fries, too). Not enough servers, but ours was excellent and super friendly. I will definitely be going back again in the near future.
The food at Public House is always good! My only complaint is that you are often rushed through the courses, often bringing dinner before you finish your salad. Slow down meal service a bit and you'll be perfect. We will ask for them to hold our order if we order a salad going forward. I hate to feel rushed.
