Came here for dinner before a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Had a great meal. Free all night parking if you make reservations and arrive before 7pm. Hollywood bowl shuttle is about a block away, north on Orange st. Restaurant is located inside the historic Hollywood Roosevelt hotel. Great food, great location, great bonus with free parking.
We have used open table close to three hundred times and I can honestly say this was the worst experience we have ever had. The place is neat and has so much history. The food was good, not great and better than okay! What made our experience so bad was the Service. We sat for 15 minutes before we were acknowledged. We were just getting up to walk out when a waiter asked if we had been helped. He hustled to get us drinks and that was about the extent of any effort made to make sure we had a good dining experience. Plates of food were dumped at your table. For example, I had a salad. We were asked who had the salad, I raised my hand the plate was dumped and the guy was gone. No question on whether I wanted pepper or not. We had no salt or pepper on our table and I waited 10 minutes for our waiter to appear at another table close by so I could ask him for some. Another dump and no apologies. Same with main entree’s. Dump and go and no one to check how our entree’s were. Very disappointing. We will not be back!!!
We were looking for a last minute reservation and Public was available for an 8pm dinner for 2. Usually that would be a concern but we went ahead anyway.
The pasta and duck were both excellent (not sure about peas in the pasta but it was still good). Wines were great and not badly priced. The Lemongrass creme brulee tasted like a spa towel, texture was great, take out the lemongrass and put vanilla in instead, you'll have a very very good creme brulee. Service was a bit of an issue. Initially the service was attentive but as the night wore on it faded, we had a lot less visits to the table. Always frustrating when you are trying to get another round of drinks or the bill!
i would still recommend Public, good food, decent value for the area and nice wines on hand.

We went for my wife's birthday and it was excellent. They treated her like a queen. Great service and excellent food. Unlike other restaurants that cover everything with sauce and salt, this place serves fresh, creative meals in which you can actually taste the ingredients. We come here whenever we're in town.
I was so excited to come to the Roosevelt Hotel to meet a friend staying there. Quite the iconic "hip" place in Los Angeles (Hollywood) and I had though the food would be exceptional. Very disappointed as it was not awful, just ordinary. Nice staff though, both at the bar and at the table.
Cocktail person gave me the bill for drinks and failed to inform me that the tip was included. When confronted she gave me the old "I am sorry I forgot to tell you" line. I know she is full of it and lied. Management was informed and did nothing to make us feel better. Never going back.
The food was ordinary, especially for the price, but the worst part was the service. The wait staff was inattentive and did not respond to our request for additional items we needed to enhance the food (we asked for horseradish sauce for our steak twice and no one came with the sauce or an explanation as to why it wasn't available) French fries were served with a small amount of ketchup that was too spiced with hot sauce and no alternative was available. The pear and arugula salad was ok, but this one dish is not enough to bring me back. Save your money and go to Musso and Frank's Grill down the street.
The entry is old and dated, not in a good way. You have to walk through a very tacky caverness, sleezy bar/ room to get to the restaurant. The restaurant is old Hollywood, nice. Hostess's not welcoming and not dressed like an upscale dinning spot. The appetizers we good but the food was marginal. The pot roast was more like beef jerky.
First time here, thought would be nice since inside Roosevelt hotel with other happening bars all in one location. The food is overpriced for quality and taste of food. Raw oysters are standard, tried the lamb was good. Roasted half chicken was alot and just ok alittle dry. The lemongrass creme brulee with candied ginger pairing was off. Did not like at all. The candied pecan pear salad; was almost half candied pecans and barely any arugula and had 3 small slices of poached pears. It ended up being half a plate of pecans. Kale salad was good portion and tasty. Lobster bisque was tasty had a good piece of lobster in it. For 4 people eating ended up being $250 + tip. Eat at alot of places and this was way too much for quality food and atmosphere. It's a trendy place would've been better to go to Spare room upstairs sit have a burger; really active bar crowd with 2 lane bowling alley or eat at diner 25 degree in front mightve been cheaper. It's like menu had weird combinations of food pairing instead of just offerring the standard that most people recognize and like. Pistachio lava cake? Menu on website not same as offerred. Was wanting to try bone marrow appetizer but didn't have. Seating seemed more like a cafeteria style with bar at the front end like the cheesecake factory. Won't be coming back.
The food was good. Better than I thought it would be (for an old hotel). And hearty servings. They have excellent lamb which I have found hard to find in LA. Old world Hollywood atmosphere. Not really a date place I would have thought but good for friends or business dinners. Good if you are looking for somewhere upmarket -ish and reliable in the centre of crazy Hollywood.
I would like to compliment the staff on Friday 2/17/17. I had reserved for 4 + 1 child, but upon arrival, my friends brought their friends and we ended up being 7 people + 2 children. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us in the best possible way! They were friendly, so helpful, super efficient, and lovely. We had the perfect table for our group and they really did an excellent job with the changes and delays of our party. Thank you to all the staff and our meal was delicious for all! Even the picky kids!!!! Not the first nor the last time I will dine with you! Thank you!
we had limited time and thus ordered the outstanding brussel sprouts and the flatbread, also excellent, could have had more chicken on it. Actually a combo of the two flatbreads would be outstanding. Waitress was impeccable, I dropped my napkin on the floor and she was ready to hand me another one. Lunch menu looks very good as well.
Wonderful place for Christmas brunch. Delicious buffet and amazing desserts. We just wished it included a couple more breakfast items like eggs etc, but there was still plenty to choose from even tho I don't eat meat. You could add egg items for $10 each if someone really wanted. And there were lightly poached eggs on top of duck hash. The crab, shrimp and oyster selection was great! The burrata watermelon was delish and I couldn't stop eating it. The staff was very nice and proficient and the place is absolutely beautiful. I've been there a few times, but this is the first time for a holiday brunch buffet. The others in my party enjoyed it as well and felt it was very special and a great place for Christmas.
