Alternatively, the lower level, Green Lantern, features a 1920’s prohibition era lounge available for pre-or post-dinner drinks, classic cocktails or a separate menu of small plates available until close. We went to Public Kitchen for the first time to celebrate our son's high school graduation. We arrived quite early for our 5:15 reservation (as the graduation ceremony went more quickly than I imaged) so the restaurant was empty and we were seated promptly at a table by the window with a lovely view of the park. Our server made some nice menu suggestions, including the delicious meat and cheese board to start the meal, and everyone was very pleased with their entrees. My mom raved about her pork chop. The server asked what brought us in, and although we told him about my son's graduation, nothing special was done to acknowledge it. I wasn't expecting anything and was not at all disappointed but thought I would mention it in case the restaurant reads this and wants to take action for future similar situations.

The Noyes + Cutler burger is the best burger anywhere, ever.
As always, the food, service and staff were impressive and memorable. Meals are creative, delicious, well-presented and well-prepared. The staff was and is always welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable; they work very well together as a team. A favorite in downtown St. Paul.
Went for an early, midweek Father's Day 2017 dinner (7:15P). Sat inside for the slightly cooler temps. Most diners were outside on the sidewalk in the early eve sun in front of the four-restaurant building near Mears Park, St Paul. Beautiful day. Food was excellent as was the service. Dining area is inside an converted brick warehouse with huge firehouse-door windows facing Mears, very attractive restoration, very high ceiling. Would be more energetic with the dining area and long bar full. Will have to come back on a Saturday night!

Considering the prices and atmosphere, both of which struck me as upscale/casual, I expected the food to be more inventive and, well...better! I had a pork chop ($28) with what I assumed would be an interesting sauce (mushrooms were mentioned) but it really felt like a heavy mushroom gravy with tiny cubes of potatoes mixed in, The gravy was so overwhelming I couldn't even tell what was mushroom and what was potato, and it could have been a shoe under that sauce and I wouldn't have known! My son had the spaghetti (non-adventurous eater) which was much tastier, but again, very heavy for a late-May menu item. In a lean toward spring I also had the pear salad, but there was no gorgonzola on it as the menu promised, and the salad greens were run-of-the-mill, from the plastic clamshell. What gives, with the right-next-door Farmer's Market bursting with awesome fresh, local lettuce varieties??
We had a lovely time on the sidewalk table.
Food was good- service: waitress was pleasant but we did not see her much. Wanted something but never saw her to ask. Cool building but had an odd smell.

This a is our third time making a reservation and dining. Food is very good, service has always been good. But honestly, don't expect them to pay attention to your requests when you make a reservation. Three times we've made a request regarding seating. Three times they have ignored it or never read it. Each time what we requested was available when we got there, but they never paid any attention. We'd give the place 5 stars if it weren't for this.
I wasn't a little disappointed as I wasn't expecting a brunch buffet.
I will go back again because I really wanted to try the crab cake eggs benedict.
Great Mother's Day brunch. Not too crowded at the time (10 am). Would have loved to have live music or a solo artist playing jazz/contemporary.
Last Saturday my 5 other friends and I attented Public for our Prom dinner! We all had a super great time! Our server was so nice and funny when he was interacting with us. The food was delicious! I would definitely eat here again :)
Pleasant eating outside facing Mears Park. Food was good. Server was helpful and efficient. Kitchen was backed up due to some large groups, which delayed our entrees (typically not an issue, but we were going to a play, so we had to eat quickly and skip dessert). We'd definitely go back.
Great experience for my wife and I. We happened to be kid free on our anniversary. Server was great and friendly, wife loved her salmon and I went for the fancy burger which was one of the best ones I have had at a restaurant in and around the twin cities. That all said, there was a bit of a wait. This is definitely a casual, sit and enjoy company while having a few drinks, no rush environment. But it was great experience and we did not notice.
Select items on the menu were quite good, the wedge salad and the burger named Noyes something or other. The turkey burger for me wasn't great as it had pork in it and tasted more like sausage. The corn side dish was very smokey and had a lot of onions in it which my husband doesn't like and the waiter or menu didn't list. Our waiter was very very nice and friendly but didn't seem to know the menu as specifically as desired. The ambiance was great, we really liked the space. Wasn't overly crowded and would we good before an Excel event. Sides were a tad over priced but otherwise reasonable for the items we ordered.
Upon arrival, our server asked us if we were downtown for "the show tonight" -- and we said yes. We had plenty of time to eat and leave for the show, and since our waiter knew that was our plan, we ordered without worry. Our food took a bit longer than we would have hoped, though. And, worse, the waiter did not check in on us to say anything about this. He didn't even just stop over quick to say, "they are busy in the kitchen, but can I refresh anyone's drinks in the meantime?" Nothing. So, we sat not knowing how long things were going to go, and without anyone to ask. When the food came, it was great. Our server, however, still did not check in on us as most do these days, to ask if we needed anything else, how things were tasting, etc. We sat uncomfortably at the end, done eating and now pressed for time and unable to even see him to flag him for our bill. When he did come over, he dropped off the dessert menu and left us without even giving enough time for us to beg for our bill. We were able to flag him back and remind him we had a show ... but we still watched him stop by the bar and chat before ringing our ticket through and handing our cards back. We did miss a bit of the show as a result of this slowdown. The food was just fine but the waiting and lack of communication/check-in was a real issue for us.
It was are 1st time at Public on Sunday.
It's a nice place friendly great people. Good was great! Only problem we had was our meals all came at different times and were cold.
The manager handeled it great and and fast for us bringing fresh hot toast and eggs.
Because of her we will be back again.
They could off completely taken the meals that were cold off our bill but they didn't.
But we enjoyed and will ho back again.

One of my very favorite restaurants for Sunday brunch. Like the variety of food items, especially the lobster roll and lobster benedict. Service is consistently very good and really enjoy the music on Sunday!
the meat and cheese plate was fab! then we decided to just go with small plates to share. calamari was fine but we sent back the fried oysters - so oily and meh. felt bad doing it but we just couldn't eat them. kinda lost our appetite to order more. drinks are ok. not that impressed for the prices. our server was great and so was the general manager so NO COMPLAINTS about the service. the brunch menu looks great...kinda wish that would have been our first experience rather than dinner.
Very rude server, would not go back to restaurant again due to poor service.
The staff were very accommodating. We arrived about 10-15 minutes early and were provided a table immediately. I do have to say at the time of our arrival (7:45 p.m. on a Saturday) that it wasn't real busy. Our table for 2 was rocky, but the shift manager was quick to come over and had to crawl on the floor to adjust the foot of the table. The waitress was very attentive. I would definitely come back on another occasion.
Our server (I think his name was Shane) was very knowledgeable. I had the turkey burger which I didn't expect to be outstanding but it certainly was!
We went to the Public House for Easter Brunch and while everything was good and we enjoyed ourselves and the restaurant, we felt $35 per person for the buffet was rather steep. We understand you have to cover those patrons that make multiple trips to a buffet, but we still felt 35 was high. Our family is respectful of not overextending the invitation for multiple trips to the buffet so that is why we don't often visit restaurants that have buffets because of this exorbitant cost.
Love the food and waitress and ambience each time we've eaten here. But the hostess this last time was clueless. We had reservations but were seated in the overflow basement. We insisted on one of the four empty tables in the main dining area. We got one if we "promised to be finished in an hour ". Those tables were never occupied but we finished in an hour and had our desert and last round of drinks next door. Felt unwelcome so not sure we'll be back.
We have eaten at Public Kitchen previously, and have had great food and service every time. We were a little let down by the limited vegetarian options on the menu this time (game menu, perhaps?), but we were able to find something warm and filling on a cold, raining evening. We'll be back, but may reserve this place for brunch in the future.
Serving 7 people for a business lunch. We had an accommodating round table where everyone could hear each other. Food was excellent. Service was a little slower than normal for this place but it was very understandable given it appeared one or two servers were covering the entire dining room. Lunches are hard because almost all tables will sit down about the same time. I would not expect management to dilute the servers tips by adding more servers. We should have arrived earlier and set aside more than 45 minutes for a large lunch with 7 people. 2-3 people could get in and out faster for lunch.
Nice restaurant to go to before a concert at the Xcel center. Service was good. Enjoyed the cocktails and the meat and cheese tray. My husband stated it was the best burger he'd had in years.
Disappointed in food selection. Viewing the menu on line had my palette set for calamari and lobster roll both were not available. Ordered the pear salad although good very small.
Overall very good. Ran out of key featured items, including brussel sprouts (side and key item in a couple entree dishes), short ribs, and salmon, which seemed like a substatial portion of desirable entrees on a prime dining eve, Saturday. The mussels were excellent, and my filet was absolutely exquisite - tender and cooked perfectly to temp (blue rare). Dry rub wings were good not exceptional. Service was attentive and responsive. Staff was knowledgeable enough to make insightful wine recommendation, much appreciated!
Service was extremely slow. Our server came to take drink orders and we had just started looking at the wine list so she said she would give us some time. Then she didn't return for over 20 minutes. Our appetizers took forever and one was a meat/cheese tray she later reported was holding us up. We ordered four desserts, two were one the house for birthdays. The two chocolate cakes we ordered were later reported all gone so server subbed other desserts and all were free.

The serves was excellent. The food was below average out of 10 of us only 1 person liked their food. It also was cold and took a long time to arrive to the table.
Group of 4. Meat/Cheese Board was perfect. Soups outstanding. Split lobster fettuccine and split the pork chop. All excellent. Service could not have been better.
food was very mediocre. Had lobster fettucine, which was bland, and brick chicken. The kale was good. Brick chicken was ok, mac and cheese heavy and bland.
Good food, though expensive for the size of the meal. I might come back but would try other spots in the neighborhood area first. All in all a good experience, just pricey for what you got -- both food and drink.
Got to Public early for St. Patty's Day in downtown St. Paul. Enjoyed the Corned Beef Sliders completely. 2 good-sized mini-sandwiches with tasty corned beef, cheese, coleslaw/kraut on fresh buns. They were great. Quiet when we arrived, but about an hour before the parade, it started filling up. Server was great, friendly and quick. Public is a gem that probably gets forgotten about. I will be back.
Lamb stew special portion size was tiny! Very good though. Soup and salad also very small. Our waiter was good but very slow to take our order and clear our plates. All the food was tasty but 4 of the 5 of us were still hungry.
