Public House - New York Ratings and Reviews
The server delivered our lunch and then never came back to see whether the meal was satisfactory. The french fries had been served cold. Once we flagged her down she promptly brought new hot fries from the kitchen, but it took a long time to get her attention and others ere halfway through their meal before the new fries arrived.
Was charged $100 more than what my receipt says. Called every day for a week and was told a manager would get back to me. Never did. I now had to get my bank and lawyer involved. Used to be my favorite place. Will never go back. And will make sure everyone I know never goes.
They had changed the menus but still had the old ones on the site. Waitress didn't write our orders down and got the beer order wrong. Then one of our guests got the wrong cheese on his cheeseburger. Again she didn't write down the order. Onion rings were overly greasy.
It just wasn't a good experience. Would not go back.
I had been here for lunch on another occasion and it was very good. I needed something for dinner near Grand Central so this fit the bill; however, it was a disaster based solely on the noise level! Service and food were good but the music was so loud and with a full bar and nearly full restaurant area it was impossible to hear my dinner companion sitting across the table from me. The bar crowd had to shout to be heard above the music and the shouting just escalated throughout the entire facility.
My ears were ringing --even the server had trouble hearing our orders.
Great server, lousy atomosphere for dinner only due to noise level.
Good place for lunch.
Would never recommend or return for dinner!
Excellent as it usually is, they did not talus ever were there and called while I was sitting in the sinning room . Great food and good service and such a pretty setting with history! Wish there was a little more provided about the history. Always love this place!
Long story short - Had reservation showed up and was told they were not seating anyone due to holiday parties but they could give me a table nearest the front door in the bar if I promised to be done quickly.
Nice bar. Poor floor management. Poor customer service.
My girlfriends and I went to Public House specifically for the Tuesday night special: $35 for a 3-course meal with bottomless wine. Unfortunately, when we got there we were informed that a private party was taking up most of the restaurant's resources and only the regular menu was available.
Although the burger I ordered was enjoyable, I was disappointed that no one from the restaurant reached out and told us ahead of time that we wouldn't be able to do the special.
I picked the restaurant on a rainy day based on its Zagat rating and the proximity to my client's office. We each had calamari and a spinach salad. The waiter admitted it was her first day and she did not know what teas they had. The calamari was hard crusted the crust was startchy and not cooked through but the meat was rubbery as if overcooked (or not so fresh). The spinach salad was fresh and free of sand, the dressing was good and the tomatoes ripe. It started to pour just before we left. My client was grateful it was so close to her office.
The food was good but not great and the waitstaff while friendly, were not very attentive. It took 20-25 minutes to get our salads and my friend never received the extra dressing she requested. It was not particularly crowded and the waitstaff seemed to be milling around purposely avoiding making eye contact with customers.
Good for lunch, food is very good, especially compared with similar priced lunch spots in the Grand Central area. Tends to be a little noisy, but that becomes less noticeable once seated and talking with your group. We have avoided at night due to the loud music.
Food was excellent - we got nachos, burger, chicken salad sandwich, and the turkey brie sandwich. It's a very popular post-work Happy Hour spot so even though we had a table in the dining area you're still in the mix of things so expect it to be loud and crowded
Public House was pretty good. The service was just a little odd. For whatever reason our waittress remembered everything else that my friends ordered but didn't get my order straight. I asked for chicken on top of one of my salads and there was no chicken so I had to ask for it again. My friend's also asked for a to-go box and the waittress brought theirs but not mine. Otherwise it was good, cheap and convenient.
