Since opening its first restaurant in April of 2005, the Public House continues to strive to be a leader in the bar and restaurant industry. Public House currently encompasses restaurants in Philadelphia, New York, and National Harbor, MD. Public House's mission is to provide a consistent and quality product, while at the same time, a sophisticated and fun atmosphere to our guests. Best veggie burger of my life. Their bourbon BBQ sauce is something else. Speedy service and the fries come in a nice little fryer basket. Clean and calm atmosphere with a cozy environment. Personally I think it's the best restaurant in National Harbor and would more than happily go there again. Went for a date and was not disappointed. 10/10
It was after much deliberation that I chose this place for our after activity get together, and it turned out really well. There was actually far less trouble finding a set of tables close enough together than OpenTable led me to believe. (I had to get a friend to make a second reservation of 4 to accommodate our group) We had good food, and the whisky list was sufficient, if a bit on the pricey side. However, I'm guessing our server is quite new, as he seemed uneasy with the large group, and he made a hash of the checks at the end, having lost track of who had what.
Otherwise, it went very well, and the atmosphere was excellent for our shindig.
Meal started off good, food seemed above average. They take time to plate it thoughtfully. I ordered the mixed grill to share, cut into one of the chicken breasts and took a bite, immediately spit it out. It had turned, the smell of it was even too much to bear. Had others smell the rank odor coming from that bad piece of meat including my waiter and they confirmed that it was turned. Another man who did not introduce himself as a manager but I'm assuming he was came up to my table, told me there was nothing wrong with the chicken because they just received it in this morning. He refused to smell the chicken but offered to get me something else but I was feeling queezie and had lost my appetite after that as anyone would. If I was a manager at a restaurant I would want to get to the bottom of a problem that could have easily made my patrons very very sick.
The glasses and silverware were dirty. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles, the waffles were cold and hard. We informed our waitress she just stated ok i will put in another order for waffles, 20 minutes later no acknowledgment still no waffles cold chicken. We asked for the check without the chicken and waffles. I think she was overwhelmed with all the tables the hostess gave her. Unfortunately we won't be going back.
Public house used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the harbor; however, I went on 8 Dec with a friend, and was truly disappointed. I ordered the crab cake sandwich, which is something I've always ordered. Needless to say it was not the same. The crab cake I remember was definitely more lump, but this one was not. It almost seemed like it was frozen party that was fried. The ambiance in the place has just changed...I won't be returning unless I'm planning to sit at the bar on a weekend.
Our waitress was amazing. The seating was great. The atmosphere was great as well. I saw families, friends, couples, graduates, and all in between dining. There is a huge bar! I like the location of this restaurant because it not only sits directly on the corner, but it is attached to the public parking garage. My friends were able to find street parking while I parked in the garage.
We had my birthday brunch there on Memorial Day Sunday. The Crab Benedict is very good. One of the best I've had. The Old Bay Hollandaise is delicious and the crab cake had very little filler. Did not try the Bloody Mary bar or bottomless mimosas as we had a full day ahead of us.
They do not have regular Eggs Benedict, though, which we found odd.
Absolutely LOVED this place! Went there for a birthday celebration - was able to get a quiet booth away from everyone and we enjoyed our meal!! The Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and Chocolate Lava Cake was the beginning and ending of the perfect mean!! Free dessert because it was my birthday!!
This was my first time eating at Public House. I wanted a place for me and the family to have brunch on my birthday. I usually celebrate out of the country or in New York, but this year had to stay close to home. Public House was AWESOME! My family loved it. My eight year-old son raved the food, which is surprising. All plates were empty. It was a great time.
My husband and I found a babysitter for the night and were able to get reservations for Public House. Despite being a little late, we were seated right away. The service was good - our waitress check in on us a couple of times throughout the meal, and the food was good. We shared the mixed grill plate. All in all was a welcomed night out.
Great weekend meal. The joint was humping and it had energy and a great vibe. Service was on point, Makayla, was a charming and gracious server. She kept is on drinks and food, monitoring the table and keeping an eye on us.
Food was great! Wings were huge and the hummus was taste. Fish tacos were good but did not seem to match the rest as the fish looked processed and not what I saw going on in the balance of the plates.
Entrees were also great, burger, shrimp and grits and fried chicken.
Great job by all!
Public House was not good, in fact it was the worst meal I have had in years. We had the Philly Cheesesteak Eggrolls for starters, which tasted like greasy flavorless meat in a fried shell. They were served with "house made spicy ketchup" which was also not good and the flavor didn't match with the appetizer at all. For our main course, I had the jambalaya and my girlfriend had the turkey sandwich. The jambalaya tasted like canned tomato sauce over rice with some un-marinated proteins thrown in, and the turkey sandwich almost had no flavor at all. I was very disappointed because we (my girlfriend and I) were excited for a night out in National Harbor for the first time. And, to make it worse, both of us got upset stomachs soon after the meal and had to call it an early night, and return home. I will NEVER patron this restaurant again.
Food was great, server was great. There was a trout dinner on special that night and it was very good. House beer was average, but pretty good beer list from other breweries.
A few big groups of people around us were very loud and made it hard for my wife and I to hear each other, so that took a little away from the experience.
Overall this is probably somewhere I'd go to again.
My wife, daughter and I ate at Public House for the first time on Friday night. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was very good. My wife had the chop salad, daughter had the salmon, and I had the Mahi-Mahi special. We will definitely eat there again.
My friends and I try to do brunch twice a month and usually choose a different spot each time. We chose this place because we all like the National Harbor and the menu appeared good online. We had not been here before. We are pretty low-key, not high maintenance customers. The service was rather poor (not very attentive and I'll add that it was not very busy). My friend and I did the $18 unlimited mimosa deal and they were not good. 90% orange juice with a splash of champagne (not worth it to do it this way). The food was fine-- nothing to rave about or complain about. Average brunch food. Maybe this place is worth another try? We all traveled 30-40 minutes to get to this spot.. so not really worth it when there are a ton of options closer.
