Public House 49 Ratings and Reviews
The four people at our table were underwhelmed by the food. Three of us had dry, overcooked hamburgers with soggy fries. One of us had a dry rueben sandwich. A fly was walking around in the complimentary bowl of greasy chips that were placed on the table to welcome us. We will not be returning.
We visited Public House 49 on a thursday so obviously it was much quieter then on a weekend. We had some drinks at the bar then moved into the dining area for dinner. The bar is very big and has high tables also. The bartender was very attentive but not overbearing at all. The dinner menu is nice and has a variety of choices for most appetites. My date had a burger that he liked and I had a salad with grilled shrimp. It was very tasty. I would recommend Public House 49.
food was excellent, our waitress madison did an excellent job,was on top of everything , pumpkin beer was the best we ever had ,atmosphere was very nice, appetizers were excellent, all six of us said we would definately be back. overall plesaant experience.
The fish special was scallops. Four scallops really, way overpriced for this meal. The restaurant was hot, the air conditioning must have been turned off. August, really no ac??? When asked to turn the ac on we were told they always keep it this temperature. We were actually sweating during the meal. Not a fan, won't go back!
Have eaten at Public House 49 several times and have always found the food to be very good. Went for an early brunch this visit and once again the food was very enjoyable. We sat outside, (sidewalk tables in front of the restaurant) which was nice on a Sunday morning (aside from the occasional loud vehicle passing by). The owner/manager (?) came by a couple of times to check that everything was OK. Service overall was very good - food and drinks were served quickly, but we were not rushed at all and sat and lingered for a little while after we ate. Look forward to eating there again
We were all pleasantly surprised at the clean, sleek, modern, yet warm ambience...tastefully decorated. All 3 of us wanted to eat fairly light (being summer time) before we went to a show at the lovely Patchogue theatre. So we ordered the pork pulled nachos...delicious, arugula salad with grilled chicken...delicious, and Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp...delicious. All 3 dishes were presented with brightly colored, fresh cut vegetables. Very appetizing. Healthy, tasty and delicious. We are planning to return again. Try it, you'll like it!!
I needed to accommodate 7 people on my reservation and Publick House 49 was the only restaurant in the area that had a table available. (I had called on Thursday for Saturday night ) The evening started out fine and our table was ready, service was very good and we placed our order. The food was fair, but the service dropped off drastically toward the end of our meal. After spending nearly $400 I left feeling disappointed. It was a lot of money to spend and we all walked away feeling like it was just 'ok.'
Took my 19 yr old daughter for her birthday. Table for four nice half circle bench seating. Was very busy staff seemed to be overwhelmed at times, huge contrast to the last time we went. Same menu tasty food and nice appetizers young crowd and very lively atmosphere. Would definitely go back again but next tI've probably leave the children home and arrive much later when the music starts
I love public house. I've been there multiple times. The food is great and the atmosphere is great. They serve the best nachos on Long Island. The only time I don't like going there is late nights on Fridays and saturdays, when the bar scene gets crazy. Other than that, I highly recommend going there whether you're visiting or looking for a new place to try.
very nice bar with a separated restaurant area with booth and table seating. very casual atmosphere and typical for bar/grill style dining. If service is what you want then this is the place to go. Although it was 7:30 on a Friday, and most likely not the busiest time of day, from the moment we were greeted by the hostess until the time we paid for our meal, the service was fantastic. Never overbearing or pretentious and dining with our 15 year old daughter that was refreshing. The Food was tasty with both small and large plates available and if you have any questions the server was always willing to explain any item to us. the fig and goat cheese flatbread was a nice starter and when I ordered the seared sea scallops with pulled pork I was a little perplexed by the combination at first but, pleasantly surprised that it worked. The scallops were among the best I ever have and the pork was delicious. The GM/ owner even came by to make sure everything was going well. My daughter, for dessert had cheesecake and that was by far the best I ever tasted. I was shocked she even offered me a taste. I had an espresso martini for after dinner and that too did not disappoint.
I look forward to going back to this place very soon and was surprised at how much my wife and daughter liked it too because we never agree on the same thing.
I have patronized Public House 49 a couple of times with a friend of mine. We decided to meet here one time and enjoyed the food quite a bit. The service, however, was stellar and is what sets this restaurant apart. Because of Dan, our server, we decided to make a standing weekly lunch date. We know we will eat well and we know that he will go above and beyond every time we visit.
Have been here a few times over the last few years. Much prefer it for Happy Hour than dinner. Not one of the 3 of us cared for our meal. Service was great but the food just didn't do it. Preferred the menu a few years ago. But on the other hand, great place for Happy Hour. And the appetizers are great, especially the mac and cheese.
Solid gastropub with well prepared and well priced food. Freshly fried potato chips were a nice starter. Salads were fresh with tasty dressings. Outstanding skirt steak and a burger that was perfectly cooked, juicy and a rival to any I've eaten. Our waiter Taylor was friendly and gave us great service. We will definitely be back!
