Public Fish & Oyster
Service was great, Food was good but overpriced for what little you get. Not sure we will go back. One and done. (Charlottesville, Va)
I introduced a newcomer to Charlottesville to Public Fish & Oyster and he loved it!
Wonderful! We were there for part of a mini vacation from our home in DC. The service was lovely and friendly and the food was outstanding! One of the owners helped us and she was low key, knowledgeable and highly personable. Very casual atmosphere for with food you’d expect at a much fancier place. Excellent and highly recommended. We got the sous vide beets, a dozen oysters, and their Yucatán mussels (house made sausage for the win).
Wonderful! The selection of raw oysters was amazing and so delicious. We had lobsters rolls (one of each way) and they were packed full of lobster. He Brussels Sprouts are a must have!! Will definitely be back!
Public Fish & Oyster never fails to impress, with the freshness of their seafood and pleasantness of the wait staff. PFO is by no means a place for cheap eats, but the happy hour special ($1.25/apiece for exquisite local VA options) for raw oysters is pretty hard to beat.
Great, intimate spot for a great meal. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with both food and wine selections. The calamari and the scallops, in particular, were phenomenal. I highly recommend it!
We went to PFO for a family birthday celebration. The entire experience was amazing as always. The calamari and Belgium frites wee a huge success with the entire table. Crab cakes, steak and seafood dishes exceeded everyone’s expectations. Service was terrific. Thank you!
What a great restaurant. Our meals were outstanding and the service was even better. PubFish & Oyster is now our number one go to restaurant in Charlottesville!
Lovely and the service was excellent!
We were there to celebrate a belated birthday and an anniversary. The food was excellent! The service was excellent!!
Went here to celebrate our recent marriage and had a fantastic meal. Wine was tasteful and service was great!
Awesome fresh seafood and oysters! Great cocktails. Server was friendly and on point!
My sister and I were visiting Charlottesville and Public Fish and Oyster was recommended to us by the Omni. It was absolutely the best meal we have had in a long time!!! Everything was so tasty and very pleasing to the eye!!our waitress was great also. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
Loved the food.
Every time we come here we are reminded of why we love it! Great ambiance, even greater food - so happy to have a great seafood place in Charlottesville! You MUST try their New England clam chowder - it’s the best I’ve ever had.
Always enjoy Public Fish & Oyster. Great selection of oysters and all the dishes are well prepared. Easily the best seafood in Charlottesville. Lots of care taken to make sure items are fresh. Great service and atmosphere too.
We had drinks and appetizers and it was great. The personal service was outstanding. We are looking forward to going back for dinner!
I had the PFO roast which was excellent! My wife had a pair of delicious crab cakes that were delicate and filled with tasty crab meat. We look forward to coming back on our next visit to C'ville.
As always, Public not only serves the best fish, oysters, and seafood in Charlootesville, but provides excellent service and attention.
Great restaurant. Second time coming to this restaurant. Service was excellent both times! Definitely recommend the oysters and the lobster roll.
I ordered the Fried calamari and ceviche oyesters and they were delicious! The cuisine and service are excellent and I will return to try more items on the menu.
Great oyster bar and overall menu. Top spot in Charlottesville.
One of our favorite spots. Great oyster selection.
Great dinner. We had fried oysters, the haddock and seared scallops. All were wonderful. Our server was attentive and personable. Will definitely go again.
We all four liked (most of) the food at Public Fish & Oyster. It is a small space, and was packed, so it was a pretty noisy & hectic scene. That’s not bad in itself, but we then had no fewer than three ‘missing’ drinks or dishes, where we had to keep hailing passing waiters to inquire about this forgotten salad or that misdirected drink or side dish, which was frustrating. And I was probably foolish to order shellfish in late Summer, as my oysters weren’t that great, and my steamed mussels were so tiny they were barely there. On the positive side, the house salad, the capreze salad and all our group’s other cooked dishes were delicious! So, even though it wasn’t a perfect visit, the team was very nice and we’ll definitely try it again sometime. We would also recommend it, if with slight reservations about the possible/likely size/noise/crowd issues.
Was there on Saturday, back on Tuesday ! John is absolutely the best bartender and really know how to mix a fine cocktail. The classic mussels are fantastic and when you ask for the fries super well done they are to die for!
Absolutely loved it. The food was so good and so was the service. Excellent.
We sat at the bar, ate some amazing oysters, drank a fantastic bottle of wine recommended by our bartender, and finished the meal with a slice of FANTASTIC key lime pie, paired with a glass of sauternes (again, per the bartender's recommendation) We enjoyed the space, immensely, and very much look forward to our next visit.
First time trying this little jewel of a restaurant. The seafood dishes were fresh and well thought out as far as combining interesting ingredients. The oysters were fresh and delicious 😋 Next time I’m visiting in Charlottesville I will definitely be going back!
About 2 doz oysters, a cocktail each & some amazing fries.
This was our first visit to Public Fish and Oyster and we loved everything about it! The food was all so good and we can't wait to come back and try other dishes! The Oysters Rockefeller and warm lobster roll were outstanding! Great atmosphere and friendly staff! It is small and a little crowded, so people not liking tight quarters might not appreciate this. It didn't bother us however as it seemed to be part of the friendly, relaxed vibe. This fact would make it hard to bring children, possibly. Its a lively, somewhat noisy atmosphere, but again it works with the setting. Great decor and made us feel like we were on vacation! We will definitely be back soon!
What a find! Steam pot and Brussel Sprouts were out of this world!
Frankly, I was disappointed. My crab cakes, while containing no filler, likewise contained no lump backfin!! I can get much better cakes in central PA at half the price, and there it includes salad and a side.
Everything from the oysters, salad, main course was fabulous
We brought our daughter hete to celebrate her new job promotion.
She loves oysters and her husband makes some of the best.
We all enjoyed the oysters and several other dishes we tried.
The server was excellent and very helpful with menu items.
Can't wait to return.
We sat in the window as a party of 3 adults plus a 3 yr and a 1 yr old. The welcome, table and server were wonderful. The Alaskan snow crab was small and not worth the money. The mussels and haddock were great. The wine was overpriced. Other drinks, including cocktails and draft beers were good. No food offerings were available for the kids except a plate of fries which is really poor. Overall expensive, but a nice experience.
Loved the server and the food was so fresh and tasty. Oysters were AMAZING!!!
Go for the oysters - a little pricey but very good. Fried oysters not so good
