John the bartender was great. Very knowledgeable and cocktails were delicious. Food is also amazing. Oysters we fresh and delicious. Mussels and frites are a must have every time we come. Can’t wait to go back.

Public is finally open again. Bravo! John behind the bar was as engaging an helpful as ever. We (3) had plenty of space around us and felt very comfortable with the spacing in this cover era. My lobster roll (first of the season) and key lime pie were as wonderful as ever. The oysters on the half shell smelled like the ocean, had no errant debris and slid down accompanied by a very nice ale. My wife and son were equally impressed with their choices of food and drink.
All in all this is my favorite restaurant in C'ille and I am so happy to them open again. Cheers.

One of our favorite places in Charlottesville and happy to be able to eat there again. Best fish in town, which can be pricey but we are a long way from a major body of water! Love the oysters!

Was so nice to be able to sit in the courtyard and enjoy a meal. They restaurant did a great job with social distancing and cleaning of their tables. Management could not have been nicer. Can’t wait to return during better times.

I love PFO, and even more so now that I know the fried calamari is made with rice flour, and suitable for us horrible gluten-free types.

The consistency is remarkable. We are relatively frequent customers. Always good. Great wine list.

I understand that their menu changes frequently, but if it’s available, you should try their take on calamari....one of the best. We also ordered the mushroom risotto and crab cakes, both of which were spectacular. Enjoy!

Food was great, as always. A little too much salt on the trout but perfectly cooked. Also was a very good portion. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We could eat here every week.

Dinner was fantastic. Dining area is a little crowded so do not expect a quiet secluded table. We had the shrimp cocktail and calamari for an appetizer. Calamari was fresh and not overly breaded. Shrimp were huge and excellent. My wife had the mussels and I had the trout. Mussels were fresh and tastly. The trout filet was huge, looked like half of a salmon, and was cooked to perfection. Skin was crispy with a very tender flesh. Overall an excellent dinner. Will definitely be back next time we’re back in Charlottesville.

Specialized/small menu, because quality ingredients is what they are going for. The absolute best mussels I have ever had! Snow crab legs also outstanding. I come to Charlottesville once a year. This will be an automatic stop for me every time I come to town from now on!

We were from out of town and were first timers to Public Fish and Oyster. Food and service was great and the place is just funky enough to make it special. We will be back in Charlottesville this summer and will return to Public Fish......

We had a reservation for a birthday celebration during restaurant week asked if we could move our table and was told no but the other table stayed open during our dinner the pasta dish was just ok not great and was not spicy dessert was disappointing egg nog ice cream should have been listed in the online menu would have chose to go somewhere else

Great food and value. Had never been to this place. Now we will be back many more times!
