My husband and I have been to Providence several times and always loved it. A friend is visiting from Indiana so we selected Providence to take her to dinner. As usual we were not disappointed. It is Restaurant Week so we chose from that special menu. The flank steak was awesome. Very tender, perfectly prepared, and good size portion. We like the quiet atmosphere so we could catch up during dinner. Service was excellent, and the timing of receiving our courses was perfect. We never felt rushed, which I hate, nor did we feel forgotten. We will be back!
This meal left me pleasantly surprised. When i found out it was a hotel resteraunt, I went in not expecting much. The linguine with poached egg, brussel sprouts, and mushrooms blew me away. The kale salad was a delightful blend of textures, and the butternut squash soup was more savory than what i was expecting. My only negative was the chocolate cake was a little dry, however the pavlova knocked it out of the park. I will be coming back.
On 12/31 my husband and our friends were here to dine for my birthday. Our server was a young man who picks up shifts two months out of the year. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks- which were made incorrectly. Our empty salad plates were still on the table when we left- along with our dinner plates of food we didn’t like. Our server was rude and inattentive. We will not be returning. Experienced wait staff is a must!
Appetizer of foie gras was not recognizable as anything I had ever seen. The texture was appallingly gelatinous and the only taste I could discern was something I would describe as "dusky". It was oddly served Boston brown bread.
Second appetizer, Duck fried potatoes were not crisp but had the taste and texture of a baked new potato served with a dipping sauce that consisted of a heavy gravy.
Bison steak with vegetables turned out to be presented as silver dollar sized medallions of dry, over cooked bison randomly (and sparsely) scattered on a plate with vegetables. The vegetables were well prepared but I overheard another diner look at his newly delivered Bison Steak Dinner and also exclaim, "Look at this! I expected a bison steak to be a big piece of meat falling off the plate!"
Only one of 4 diners in our group was pleased with her dinner. She selected the pork chop.
The ambiance of this restaurant was akin to a Denny's without windows. First you are greeted by an inexpensive looking fake wood floor as you march down several steps to the subterranean dining room. There are virtually no softscape features and lighting was dim but cold.
4 dinners 2 appetizers and 4 cocktails totaled $236.00 including tip.
Our server, Abigail, was delightful and the high point of our experience.
Just a so so meal on thanksgiving...we were traveling. We ate off regular menu. Our waiter was very good and nice. It was just an average meal...wouldnt go back as there is more to choose from. My husband did have some delicious shrimp and grits but the portion was small for the $$$.
We went here before a concert because it was within walking distance to the Sprint Center and we could get a reservation. Not really impressed. The food was fair but nothing special for the price, service was slow and sporadic, atmosphere was very bland. Probably will not return.
Our service was excellent. I had the 8oz prime filet which was absolutely incredible. (Best I have ever tasted)! My wife had the crab pasta which was also very good with house made pasta. I rated the restaurant as only ok on ambiance. The lighting is way, way, way too bright and the ranch/barn decor seems oddly out of place for such a historic location. Overall, a very nice dining experience. If you go, definitely start or close the meal with a cocktail in the adjacent Drum Room
Food was good. I had the risotto and it was fantastic. I would've liked to see a smaller filet on the menu because I know I won't eat an 8oz. My server seemed to be new so I don't think I can fairly judge what service is like here normally. We stayed at the hotel and it was very quick to get from our room to the restaurant. I would eat here again.
The waiter was amazing, friendly and helpful. The food however...... mediocre at best,and priced high for what it was. I could have eaten at the Bristol cheaper and with a much higher quality of food. We wanted to try something new, and I regret this choice. I was so disappointed and I do not recommend this restaurant at all.
Food was good but service was slow - we waited a long time for drinks, food and never received bread (although table next to us did receive a basket of bread). Slow service would be understandable if the restaurant was busy but it was not busy at all - only a few other tables were occupied. But the food was good and the location is good.
We enjoyed our time at the restaurant. The food and ambiance were great. Our only complaint was that we waited almost an hour for our food after telling our server that we needed to leave in an hour for a concert. We did receive a hefty discount on our bill and apologies from our server and the manager.
Ordered the fillet medium rare and it was extremely over-cooked. Another dish was served with the meat cold and we were told this was on purpose because the chef was "trying something new". Very surprised at how bad the food was. Our server was notified and we got a 15% discount because we were staying at the hotel, but we should have gotten that discount regardless.
One of my favorite restaurants down town, hands down. We were going to a show after dinner. When we got there, they asked if we had a reservation and seated us. Always appreciate being accommodated with my seating requests.
When our server got there, she told us about the specials and then ran off before we could put drink orders in. That was odd to me. The rest of the meal was great. They took a bit to get out entrees out, and copped us a round of drinks even though we didn't complain. I was pleased with the over all amount of time we were there. When we left and strolled over to the sprint center it was perfect timing.
We tried this restaurant for the first time with some friends. We knew about the Drum Room lounge but did not know about the restaurant. The service was great - our waiter was fun, informative, and helpful. The cocktails were fabulous. The food was OK - not terrible but not anything we would go back for. Overall, it was a nice meal in the beautiful setting of the President Hotel.
We attend frequent shows at the Kauffman Center and it's easy to park there and eat at New Providence (short walk). This time, we had the pork chop and the salmon. Both were excellent and the included sides were delicious. Our server recommended the Decoy PIno Noir, which was perfect. The service is always super-friendly, helpful and efficient without being the least bit stuffy. My only criticism is that the lighting seems too bright. I think the atmosphere would be improved if they dimmed the lights a little bit.
The food was great and the place was beautiful. We went for my mother's retirement party. We were a group of 7 and it was easy to seat all of us together. There was a large group behind us that was really loud so trying to hear our conversations was hard at times. The staff was a little awkward with our 8 & 9 year old girls, who were pretty well behaved for being in such a nice place. I would not recommend for children...but it is a GREAT date night place...GREAT food and atmosphere.
We had a party of 11 for a bachelorette party and wanted something near Power and Lights. We made the reservation easily and were seated promptly as there were only 2 other tables. Service was friendly, though quite slow. We only ordered drinks and entrees, no starters. Entrees took well over 30 minutes to come out and there was a lot of confusion over who had ordered what. They even tried to give us another tables food. Food was 'auctioned off' at service. Three in our party ordered steaks, all medium rare. One filet was cooked rare/medium rare but was acceptable. The other filet was medium well, and the ribeye was medium well/well done. When we said something to our server about the ribeye, the manager came over and asked "Well what do you want us to do? It will take another 20 minutes to make you a new one." We ended up just keeping them and they took half off those 2 dinners, which was nice of them, but as the highest priced items on the menu, they still paid over $30 for poorly cooked steak. Other entrees were edible but bland. The BBQ Short ribs were void of BBQ flavor. The pork chop was good but the cabbage and sweet potatoes were flavorless. Drink service was also slow and drinks were inconsistently made. One person ordered the First Lady twice. The first drink was slightly blue/purple in color and no garnishes. However the second drink was clear, bubbly, and garnished with a floating blackberry. Both drinks tasted good, but were completely different from each other.
Overall, I'd say our experience was just fine. The food that was done correctly tasted fine-not bad, not great. Our server was friendly but slow, considering we were her only table. The manager was nice at first, but abrupt and slightly rude when a problem arose. We would not recommend this restaurant to friends.
This was our second visit. We think this is the perfect restaurant for a pre-show meal. It doesn't matter if your show is at The Music Hall or the Kauffman Center. Either way, it is about a 10 minute walk. We like to park at the venue - which is super easy because we are two hours early - then walk to Providence. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the food is excellent. We have already made a reservation for our third visit. Highly Recommended!
