Great place, I have always been happy with the wine, food and service. I would like if the Chef would make the duck gluten free again....it was one of my favorites!!!
Romantico. Porciones razonables en relacion al costo.
Fabulous wine list, fantastic special items like fried artichokes and wild bass, and live music which was certainly lively. We were lucky to have expert service by Dave Eramo.
Soon to return!
When spending the night visiting the Albany area, we like to make part our get away, dinner at Provence. Service was very good, food was great, nice relaxing evening. After visiting this restaurant four or five times, it may be time for them to change up their menu a little and start adding some new items.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Despite that the restaurant was very crowded our service and meal was excellent! Our server was very organized and attentive.
Valentine's Day dinner with special menu and very nice atmosphere (jazz trio). They do special occasions well. Good but rather standard menu, more generally continental than French bistro.
Provence is clearly a very good pick for date night. Service was great, the food choices were varied and beautifully presented with outstanding taste. We were there on a Saturday, so it was busy . There was live music ( frankly, the little combo performance was not very good, but it was ok for background noise) and my husband’s water glass didn’t get filled enough, but other than those minor things our experience was very pleasant. From appetizers to dessert, we were very happy with the food.
This is one of our favorite restaurants when we want to have a nice dinner without worrying about the cost. Previous dinners have bern pn morecquiet evenings but even so the service is always top notch and the menu has a wide range of choices from tapas salads great soups & apps to full course meals. Cocktails are always perfect and the wine selection is excellent. This particular evening the restaurant was totally booked. We had a cozy booth table in the back of the restaurant and a great waiter. My husband ordered the special risotto and I had risotto with filet. It is one of my favorite dishes and the chef is kind enough to prepare it for me with filet as I do not eat seafood. Saturday night I was very disappointed to find that my green beans were ice cold, risotto Lukewarm, steak was cooked perfectly but not hot enough. Our waiter offered to warm it up for me but I did not want my steak to be overcooked or the risotto to soggy or my husband feel he had to wait for my meal to come back as his was prepared perfectly and served hot – so I declined. He did speak to the chef and the manager apologized several times and gave us free desserts. In our opinion the meal should’ve been free as that was what was not prepared properly. I realize they were busy -I expressed to our waiter perhaps that was the reason my dinner was set aside and allow to cool off too much. Although he agreed with me we both know that’s not an excuse for a fine dining restaurant. I was going to speak to the manager however I did not want to make a scene as they were very busy when we left at 8:30. We highly recommend provence - this was one time in a dozen dinners we have enjoyed there that things did not turn out perfectly. Try it out by sitting at the bar or bar area, have a little something to eat, cocktail or fine wine and listen to the quartet and singer-very enjoyable.
Everything from food to service was terrific.
The food was great - especially the Scallop Risotto & the Flourless Chocolate Cake. Service (Karen) was a fantastic waitress. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Would definitely return. There were 2 large groups near by, but overall it was still quiet enough the 2 of us could talk & hear each other without a problem. Highly recommend.
My husbands strip steak was delicious but my risotto had zero taste to it. My meal was taken off the bill so in my eyes they made it right and I will be back to hopefully have a better meal.
Great overall service and food. One of our go to spots.
Service was terrible - waited a long time just to order a drink. We ended up placing our meal order with the drink order. We would have sent back food which was luke warm but our server never stopped to see how our meals were. We were very disappointed and will probably not return to this restaurant.
Regular spot for special meals
Seafood chowder is excellent, salad special was exceptional value must have had $20 of salmon on it and seabass special was excellent. Wife’s meal of onion soup and homage de portuguese was excellent
New chef has done well. Will return
I always like going to dinner at Provence. I like the setting and the food. It is nicely decorated with a clam atmosphere.
The food was delicious and our server Bruce was ver attentive
Usually like this place. But the fixed Christmas menu was tasteless and overpriced. Big disappointment.
Outstanding food - creative presentation - professional service - elegance in a relaxed atmosphere - nothing could be improved!
We were seated promptly.
Food was delicious and service was great.
Very enjoyable. One of top fine dining restaurants in the Capitol District.
Lunch for my dear friend could not have been more perfect! We were pleased by the varied and creative predominantly French menu. She opted for the quiche while I chose a sald - hard choice as there were several that are my favorites (especially the Nicoise!) Hard to resist the onion soup too.
We both selected desserts - something I rarely do - but the lemon tarte was tart and delicious! My friend enjoyed the apple cake as well. Our waitress could not have been warmer or more responsive to our needs - we enjoyed a thoroughly wonderful lunch.
I was a little disappointed in The bread basket. Bread was cold. Otherwise food was decent, excellent service and ambiance, however a tad pricey for portion sizes
The food wasn't bad, although it felt very pre-made and was missing any subtlety or depth; it was basically the equivalent of Olive Garden. Our waiter was excellent. We could barely hear each other over a large party that was nearby. Overpriced for what was essentially a mediocre meal. The manchego wedges were maybe the highlight of the meal - fried, breaded cheese wedges - could easily have been an Olive Garden specialty. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. There must be a better option for good French food than this strip-mall experience. It's directly across the parking lot from TGIF - this was a step up, but barely.
Everything but one dish was good. The pricing seems a bit high for the quality. The crab cake small plate was ridiculously small. One entree was not good but they waiter was quite nice and got okay from manager to delete from the bill. The food was good, the quality was good- but for the price it really should have been great.
really superb. the kitchen seems to have survived the change in chefs marvelously.
This was my first time there for dinner and I picked Thanksgiving Day for it. There was a prix fixe menu with a good variety of options for those not wishing turkey. The food was imaginatively prepared and the service was first rate. Our server was very knowledgeable. There was a jazz combo in the bar.
Provence has been a favorite dining place for all my family. However I know from experience that dining on a holiday is iffy meaning a limited menu. I enjoyed what I ordered but the duck was a bit "chewy" and the sweet potatoes not quite cooked through. I understand the holiday kitchen is a bit hectic and chaotic and I think overbooked which explains that but we still enjoyed the day.
Very disappointing. I will not return for Sunday Brunch!
Nice atmosphere and very well arranged. However, the cost for the serving size of food was way out of proportion. Maximum cost for minimum portions, dressed up in 'larger than average' serving bowls and plates to create an illusion that portions were larger than they actually were. Food was good, but not memorable. Probably not likely to return due to pricing.
We have been dining at Provence for years and it was always a lovely restaurant in terms of food, service and ambience. Sadly, the food and service have declined significantly and we will not return.
I can’t really offer much of a review as we had to leave just after we were seated because they fry in peanut oil. I have a deathly allergy and didn’t want to take the chance. The waitress was very understanding.
Friends and I often choose Provence for special occasions. It is such an elegant restaurant, it's great for celebrating. Seems special. We hadn't been there is a while and were glad to find that the standards were still as high and the food quality was really great. Everyone was delighted with their choices. Thanks to Provence for maintaining their high standards and being so accommodating. A lovely evening. And thanks for properly training the wait staff to be unobtrusive! Just right!
Service and food are always good.....Have had duck, salmon, bass...all excellent.
Pleasant dining with friends from out of town. A new salad with figs and cheese was a high point. Had glasses of the house wine, fine.
Food was ok, service was excellent
For our annual birthday fete, we chose Provence for food, location and ambiance. All were very satisfied with menu selections and preparation. L'agneau perfect, poisson delectable, salmon and Coqulles St. Jacques very delicious. Service was very personable. Excellent wine suggestions As well. We had some fun with a little conversation 'en francais' during the meal. A lovely time.
No complaints! Only rave reviews! Food was wonderful, wait staff was awesome!
But with my online reservation I was asked if it was a special occasion. Yes, anniversary. We thought if they were asking, it might include a complimentary drink or dessert.
We enjoyed our evening. Provence was an unexpected gem. The service was very attentive, the food was wonderful, and the ascetic was top notch given the location in a strip mall.
Service was really slow and we were not in any hurry. I always think they need to learn to bring drinks quickly as one is always thirsty upon arrival. The food had some really great flavor combinations but the lobster was overcooked and the duck had that rubbery skin that you don't get in France. The dessert pastry was not cooked and the lemon curd was out of a jar for sure. I also think it is unnecessary to charge 4 times the going rate for wine. Wish there was a real
French restaurant in Albany!
Nice atmosphere for a date. Service was excellent, possibly because there were only a few other tables being served at the time we were there. Waiter was very friendly and attentive without hovering around us. Entree was tasteful and presented well, but sides (mashed potatoes and veggies) were almost cold, as if they had been on the plate a long time before the entree was added.
