Unhappy being charged for ice tea refill
My daughter and I had the Friday haddock fish dinner. The fish had a strong ammonia odor. We were with other family members celebrating a birthday and did not want to ruin the evening . I will not go back to eat there. In addition, the place was not very busy and it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive (party of 7).
The calamari was soggy, the Asian salad was not good, the whole place needs updating.
The staff was very welcoming especially considering that my OpenTable reservation somehow never reached them. They seated me and my guests anyway even with a large Mother's Day crowd. Our waitress was very attentive in spite of the fact that there were so many people there for Mother's Day brunch. The food choices were numerous & delicious. Great place to eat
Great service and food on a busy day (Mother's Day)
The food and service was good. We went for Mother's Day and the some food items were not replenished very often if at all. The presentation of the pudding cups was haphazard causing some inappropriate comments.
Food was excellent. The raw oysters were fresh and delicious, best around.
Everything was wonderful except how long it took for food to come out. It was delicious and thankfully enjoyed the company.
The Protocol is one of those quiet gem of Buffalo. First, the seafood is absolutely first rate. The Oysters are the best! The Horseradish Crusted Salmon is by far the most amazing dish.
Wine Inventory is excellent and the staff are well trained.
Makes for an incredible dining experience.
I was disappointed as we were treated with attitude that we were late. Our reservations were at 10:15 and it was mentioned it was at 10 am. Buffet style was fine. Food was good. Service was great.
My wife & I were celebrating her birthday and it couldn't have been a better evening. Wonderful service & drinks at the bar to start off, then Paul gave a nice table where we were able to converse in private. Food was outstanding as was the service, especially when Paul surprised my wife with a candle lit cupcake for her birthday. Everything was superb and more affordable than I expected. Thank you Paul for a memorable evening.
Food good, soups excellent. Service prompt, friendly.
Not too happy with my experience. Had a reservation at 7:45PM. Didn't get seated for an hour and a half. Didn't get our food until 10:20. They ran out of steak and also risotto. Waitress was nice but seating and food took way too long. Very disappointed.
We were greeted by a host and he was rude to the party in front of us and us. We had a reservation for 6, at 630 we still were not seated and there were plenty of people in front of us that had reservations (we talked to another couple) and they hadn't been seated yet. We ended up leaving and heading to a different restaurant. They should strongly consider hiring a different host as the gentleman was anything but friendly... especially for a first impression
I made dinner reservations during restaurant week and the restaurant was busy as is to be expected during restaurant week. We waited for almost an hour to be seated and another 30 minutes or so to place our order. We received our apps/soup, but realized after an hour into waiting for our entrees that another table that was seated 45 minutes before us were still waiting for their meal. We had an event to attend so we had to leave without receiving our entrees. Very disappointed with the wait time. Not to mention, the host who we checked in with upon arriving was very rude, turns out he is the owner.
Excellent meal and service!! Would definitely go back
WE got together with old friends last Saturday and everything was excellent. The bartender was very accommodating and when we were seated for dinner the level continued. The server was fantastic. I can't recall her name but she was very well informed about the menu items and was able to explain how they were constructed. The food was excellent. Nothing fancy but prepared extremely well. The restaurant was very relaxing and had an old time aura. Overall, an excellent evening.
Went with my wife who had the Petite Filet and Shrimp which was good but would like to have the larger shrimp in the dish . I had large plate Louisiana Seafood dish. Fantastic. Scallops and shrimp done to perfection and paste perfect. Great spice and flavor
It was lousy .From the minute we walked in to the time we left.Ran out of Moscoto after out first bottle gave us a different Moscato which tasted no good .Service was sloppy .My ribs were bland ,coleslaw yucky sweet potatoe fries if it werent for the honey saved them .Then they charged us $25.00 a bottle menu price was $22.00.Figure it out would you go back ?
The food was wonderful and the cozy surroundings always makes The Protocol one of my favorite restaurants
We ordered scallop appeitize with sweet potatoe pure and quinoa salad!! Soo... looking forward to that! Was given 2 large scallops, beautifully cooked, however it was on a bed of arugula lettuce and 6 petite size grape tomatoes!! When I asked the waitress about getting the menu item as listed, her response was" I didn't know the chef didn't hav it available ." I then spoke to the hostess and she agreed it was not right to serve this dish without asking us!! I then spoke to Carol"person in charge ", her response to our complaint of not be served the item as described was" well u ate it, didn't u?" How unprofessional!! Then carol said,"I guess I can give u half off the item!! She was not a people person!!!
Protocol has been a quiet well known fine eating establishment that serves lunch, as well as dinner featuring daily specials and a nice balance in the menu without being overwhelming. Love the scallops, steak and soups. Our server Julie was excellent and top-notch, always attentive but her experience shines through as she tended to our table. We were having a business lunch -planning session and Julie knew when to stop by our table and when to leave us to our business. Her personality was so refreshing and welcoming. Protocol is a great choice for a quiet business lunch or cozy dinner without the chain restaurant loudness and clanging. It is a very warm and friendly place where everyone smiles at you, but are sincere.
The filet and shrimp small plate was perfectly prepared and a perfect dinner portion. I would order it again for sure.
We were greeted by a young, yet very knowledgeable bartender that was extremely helpful with her recommendations and attentive in her service. We had a reservation for 5:00 but they allowed us to sit and talk at the bar to catch-up before moving to our table for dinner. The variety of fresh selections offered for dinner were outstanding. We focused on the surf and turf which was excellent and I must emphasize that you can't skip dessert. I look forward to returning soon!
It was ok. Service was slow. Good was a bit bland.
It was a quiet dinner on Christmas Eve for my husband and I. It was the first time for both of us to eat at Protocol. We both enjoyed our dinners very much. The waitress was very nice and eager to please. We will certainly be going back again.
Very pleased for the most part, like it there. Asked for steak well done, more than I cared for
The Protocol is a long established restaurant in central Erie County. I was a young man when I first ate there and I"m 66 now. Between those years I've eaten at The Protocol many time and the food is consistently good. In fact it is excellent. That is what I and my extended family like about it. Good quality, freshly made food.
The Protocol is a place you can come to have a good time or a quiet conversation. And the staff is top notch. They are very professional and personable.
The Protocol has become the location of our Christmas get-together with my cousins from North Carolina. We all know that you can't go wrong eating at The Protocol. May it be around for many years to come.
Protocol is always a solid meal at a very fair price. It's our go too spot.
The salmon was over cooked and tasted very fishy. I shared that perspective with the server; however no alternative was offered. The lobster mac and cheese was very light on lobster.
Onion soup- tasteless. Garden salad excellent. However, salad presented before soup-not as requested. Strip steak for sandwich ($19) poor cut. poor quality and tasteless. Mushroom sauce on steak - bland. Disappointing meal since 3-4 years ago when I last had dinner there, and was very impressed.
Paul and his staff make you feel special from the time you get there... Great food, fun wait staff and wonderful hostess - they make you feel like they want you to come back again. So nice to feel that way since we don't go out very often. The French Onion soup is the best I have had anyplace along with a great steak!
Wonderful service and warm welcoming atmosphere! Great choice for special celebrations.
Went for a special get together in a very nice atmosphere but was disappointed on the slowness of over all service. It was extremely long between the appetizer and main course. Food was good except for one member of the party who found a hair in their meal. They rectified it by replacing with another meal and not charging for both meals. This was an exceptional. We will try the restaurant again in the future.
The food was excellent and all members of the dinner party were very happy. However, service was extremely slow. We sat down at our 6:30 reservation time and did not leave the restaurant until 9:45 pm. The waiter was also not familiar with the wine and beer list and wasn't helpful in trying to find out why was available. I would not go again because I cannot sit there for that long of a period of time. I noticed other smaller parties present for an extended period of time also.
Food was outstanding!
Wait staff was great as well.
Disappointed at being seated. Arrived 10 minutes early for a 7:15 reservation. We were not seated until 7:55. Not so much as an apology from the host.
Great bar scene! friendly staff and awesome food! Great local restaurant!
Great selection of fish.
The restaurant week selection was great. We both had the petite filet and shrimp combo and it was delicious. Your wait staff needs some educating on how to be more personable, though. Both the girl who showed us to our table and the boy who filled our water glasses had zero personality and made no effort at conversation. That was a definite turn-off for me.
