The last time we dined at Prospect was definitely better than this time. The food was good but not spectacular and some of the sides seemed overly complex and not particularly flavorful. For that reason, the cost seemed high. Beautiful ambience, unfortunately it was pretty loud so conversation was difficult. I see other reviewers commented on the service; I didn’t really see that as a big issue although it did seem that the servers were covering a lot of tables. We were there for a big birthday dinner, so I was looking for something special - it was okay, but a little disappointing.
surpassed expectations. Desserts were unexpectedly joyful and delicious as well.
The seared scallops were fantastic, good service, lovely ambiance!
Awesome ambience beautiful environment and great looking bar with good cocktails. Pretty overpriced for the portion sizes however
Everything was excellent. Chef John made us a fantastic meal. Thank you.
Been to Prospect many times. Always great food and service
Birthday dinner for my family. All was good except the noise level was atrocious. I am hearing impaired and I could not understand her most of the time.

Food was delicious!
Excellent everything!
Food was good, not mind blowing.
Beautiful presentation and delicious to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Great spot for business lunch, usually has capacity even when others are booked up.
Absolutely fabulous and great service and great food it’s our neighborhood gem.
Had the crab soup, hamachi crudo and asparagus with burrata to start - amazing!!!!!! Not one bit of food left on the plates.
Seared scallops, steak and pork chop for our main dishes. The pork chop is my go to - always juicy and flavorful and I love all the accompaniments. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the steak was spot on!
Cocktails were awesome as always and service is stellar!
Never had bad experience here
Food was excellent! Not easy to find a great AMERICAN restaurant.
Unlike much of American cuisine at other places, I liked the concept of CLASS instead of MASS (Quality instead of Quantity)
Wish they could do something about the service
Great food and service. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday.
Food was great. Courses were not too big but not too small. They served Acme bread which was fantastic. Wine list had some reasonable finds on it too. Definitely fancy food but all the items on the plate made absolute sense. I would definitely go back.
The valet parking was simply a nightmare. There should be a notice on their website that the valet is located on Folsom. The valet sign was not visible coming up Folsom from the Embarcadero. All my guests complained and were confused.
Overrated. Food was very good but not great. Portions small. Service good but not great. At $200 for dinner and drinks for two, I won’t be returning.
This was our second visit and we went in with high expectations based on our first visit. Well we were not disappointed in any way. Loved the bar area and the cockttails. We had a wonderful corner table which afforded us the opportunity to both people watch and converse easily. The food and wine were de lightful and the prices very fair for the quality and quanity.
Oh and we found a parking spot right across the street. How could that be? We will be back
Our server was wonderful and the food was delicious. I had the duck and savored every bite.
Not worth it. The service was awful. Food bland and expensive. We where a party of five. Each had our own main dish. We ordered 2 appetizers to share. Ate all the bread and butter. We all where hungry when we got home,so I had to pull food together after eating out. Not acceptable!
Main dishes were great. We had the steak and the pork chop. Appetizers average. Took an inhuman amount of time between courses and the manager duly apologized and bought us a round of drinks. I find the prices about 25% higher than they ought to be. May return but may not.
I have eaten at Prospect many times. This was my least favorite experience.
Service was slow and our steaks ($58 each) were lukewarm and tough. Previously the steaks were outstanding
Everyone enjoyed the cod and apps were delicious
I will return but was not happy with this experience
Best staff in the city
Lovely lunch. Beautiful space. Get the deviled eggs!
Always delicious and wonderful . Love the food and the staff is superb.
Birthday celebration
Prospect had good ambiance, very modern clean and upscale. Menu is fairly limited and a bit pricey for portion size, but it was excellent in taste and presentation (obviously you don’t come here for all you can eat buffet). My gripe was with the service as the waiter didn’t even introduce themselves (never knew their name until I saw it on receipt), didn’t go over daily specials, and was very transactional. Normally that would be ok with me since I’m also not a fan of helicopter waiters but what really annoyed me was how incredibly inattentive he was. We waited far too long to complete every order (drinks/food/desert) and it was almost dead in there, and only when we were ready to go did he ask if we wanted anything else to drink. Nonetheless, it was probably his “off day” who knows.
Prospect was a great place to spend a chilly Saturday night in the company of old friends. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, not as corporate as on a prior visit. The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and knowledgeable, if a bit slow in delivering drinks to the table. We had a lovely time and I surely would go back.
One of our favorite lunch spots in SF. Inventive menu that always changes just a bit and fantastic service - we were lucky to get Alex again!
Somewhat pricey but excellent food.
Not good. Service was horrible. Service severely lacked attention to detail. Must correct poor service to adequately compete with the many great dining options in SF. Ambiance is very nice.
We chose Prospect for my wife's birthday dinner with family based on its listing in SF Top 100. On the positive side, we found the food to be very tasty; crab soup, sea bass, pork chop, and duck all very good. On the negative side, we found the service to be poor and the food overpriced.
We were seated right at our reservation time of 745pm. As of 830pm, there was no cocktail order in sight and we could not get our waitress's attention. Eventually we were served our drinks with an explanation that "the bar is very busy". Since the drinks with ice cubes were almost melted, we suspect they were sitting on the bar for 20-30 minutes waiting to be picked up.
After appetizers while waiting for our main course, our waitress came by and caught the signal from one of our party that he would like a beer. She immediately spun around and seemingly ignored two others that were signaling their interest in another drink. About five minutes after our mains, she did come back for second drink orders. In good restaurants this typically happens before mains are served so that guests can have their wine/drink with their main. Apparently not here. My wife asked our waitress about several different red wines and wanted to know which one was bold, fruit forward. Our waitress indicated that those would not be quite as food friendly or appropriate and suggested something milder; she was very pretentious in suggesting my wife didn't know about wines and needed someone to set her straight.
In fairness to our waitress, she was handling a large number of tables. In a so-called Top 100 restaurant, that should not be the case and at these prices, service should be excellent, not bush league.
I will not return and will make sure friends don't waste their time and money on Prospect.
Overall good food but we waited over 30 minutes for our appetizer and another 30 minutes for our mains..
Usually very good. But lamb was gristly and way undercooked.
Excellent food, service & ambiance
The night started off well. We had a reservation for a party of 6 to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We were directed to the wait for our table in the bar/lounge area. Because it took a while, host courteously offered to take our orders for drinks.
Arrived at the table and server (I believe her name was Stephanie) was not inviting. She did not seem happy to be there nor did she seem accommodating. She never smiled once the entire night. She did not check in to see how our meals tasted. The chef however, came out to check on us and we gladly told him how the food tasted.
Most of the foods were great! We had the striped bass ceviche, fried brussel sprouts, and ahi tuna tartare from the bar menu which were all phenomenal. The steak tartare was lacking in several categories including flavor. Their interpretation of serving steak tartare without toasts/chips was odd. We had the lamb loins for two as our main entree. It was prepared perfectly medium rare with great presentation. The meatballs and potato complimented well. However, our meat was bland, not seasoned. Another couple in our group got the same entree which was much better seasoned. I'm surprised at the lack of consistency and terrible service for a highly-rated restaurant. Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of future encounters.
The food really lends itself to a WOW experience. We were running late and one phone call to the restaurant, they assured us they would hold a table. We were immediately seated, we had a great table and good server. Drinks were a good pour and the pork chop and foie gras were delicious.
