Prospect is a more casual dining hall from the team behind San Francisco's acclaimed Boulevard. Partners Nancy Oakes (James Beard award-winning chef/owner of Boulevard), Pam Mazzola and Kathy King, have created a convivial venue that pays tribute to contemporary American cuisine. Whether it's a cocktail and a bite at the bar, a casual meal at the communal table, or a relaxed lunch or dinner in the main dining room, guest can enjoy the full menu and exceptional service. Designed by Brand + Allen Architects, the loft-like space is warmed by earth tones, natural fibers, and reclaimed wood, while unique elements like artisan-crafted wrought iron chandeliers add distinctive character to the impressive dimensions. Not good. Service was horrible. Service severely lacked attention to detail. Must correct poor service to adequately compete with the many great dining options in SF. Ambiance is very nice.

We chose Prospect for my wife's birthday dinner with family based on its listing in SF Top 100. On the positive side, we found the food to be very tasty; crab soup, sea bass, pork chop, and duck all very good. On the negative side, we found the service to be poor and the food overpriced.
We were seated right at our reservation time of 745pm. As of 830pm, there was no cocktail order in sight and we could not get our waitress's attention. Eventually we were served our drinks with an explanation that "the bar is very busy". Since the drinks with ice cubes were almost melted, we suspect they were sitting on the bar for 20-30 minutes waiting to be picked up.
After appetizers while waiting for our main course, our waitress came by and caught the signal from one of our party that he would like a beer. She immediately spun around and seemingly ignored two others that were signaling their interest in another drink. About five minutes after our mains, she did come back for second drink orders. In good restaurants this typically happens before mains are served so that guests can have their wine/drink with their main. Apparently not here. My wife asked our waitress about several different red wines and wanted to know which one was bold, fruit forward. Our waitress indicated that those would not be quite as food friendly or appropriate and suggested something milder; she was very pretentious in suggesting my wife didn't know about wines and needed someone to set her straight.

In fairness to our waitress, she was handling a large number of tables. In a so-called Top 100 restaurant, that should not be the case and at these prices, service should be excellent, not bush league.

I will not return and will make sure friends don't waste their time and money on Prospect.

The night started off well. We had a reservation for a party of 6 to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We were directed to the wait for our table in the bar/lounge area. Because it took a while, host courteously offered to take our orders for drinks.

Arrived at the table and server (I believe her name was Stephanie) was not inviting. She did not seem happy to be there nor did she seem accommodating. She never smiled once the entire night. She did not check in to see how our meals tasted. The chef however, came out to check on us and we gladly told him how the food tasted.

Most of the foods were great! We had the striped bass ceviche, fried brussel sprouts, and ahi tuna tartare from the bar menu which were all phenomenal. The steak tartare was lacking in several categories including flavor. Their interpretation of serving steak tartare without toasts/chips was odd. We had the lamb loins for two as our main entree. It was prepared perfectly medium rare with great presentation. The meatballs and potato complimented well. However, our meat was bland, not seasoned. Another couple in our group got the same entree which was much better seasoned. I'm surprised at the lack of consistency and terrible service for a highly-rated restaurant. Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of future encounters.

The food really lends itself to a WOW experience. We were running late and one phone call to the restaurant, they assured us they would hold a table. We were immediately seated, we had a great table and good server. Drinks were a good pour and the pork chop and foie gras were delicious.

Food was creative, fresh and tasty. Service is a little disjointed, as there are separate waitstaff that welcome you, take your order, serve your food, serve your drinks and wine, and clear the table. Ambience is lovely and quiet enough to have a conversation. No one seems responsible for your entire dining experience. Sommelier was condescending.

Very nice atmosphere, extremely vibrant. Menu somewhat limited. Food had excellent taste and flavor. We really enjoyed the octopus appetizer. Salmon and sea bass entrees were delicious as well.

Exceptional food. Salads were inventive and the pork chops were perhaps the best we have ever eaten. Our waiter got waylaid by a large table and we thought the service was going to be a lost cause. This was totally salvaged by Tara McDonald, the sommelier--she simply became our waiter for the evening--an impressive save. Prospect is a regular stop for us every time we're in SFO. Just a note: the bar scene is lively (read: "loud") in the early evening. Sit in the back if you want quiet!

All three of us enjoyed our meals from the trout to the pork chops.
My Salmon dinner was delicious from the accompaniments to the fish, very tasty.
It was a business dinner and very easy to talk and be heard although most tables were full.
i would recommend this restaurant for a special meal with a couple or group.

Enjoyed a birthday with friends. Food was excellent - especially the striped bass. Many ordered the duck and were happy with that. All agreed the crab soup was to die for and the presentation was wonderful. Only negative observation wa that beverage service was a little slow- cocktails, wine and after dinner cappuccinos. It is a little out of the way from downtown and in a pretty quiet area for a weekend evening, but that is to be expected given it’s location. However, the restaurant was full, we found the food outstanding and the ambience was just right.

Looked forward to a relaxing date night with my spouse after a long work week on a Sat night. Did not happen. Seated us on an uncomfortable crack in the cushioned bench and next to a crying infant all night. Many other tables were still available. Not once did the staff offer an alternative. The food is good but too expensive to waste in a horrible atmosphere.

Prospect is uniquely San Francisco. The food, ambiance and service are second to none. The staff are so attentive and knows what customer service is all about. And the food is exquisite. It's definitely a place that I will be going back to.

The first time I went to Prospect I prepared to hate it as it had the fairly stark interior and concrete columns that I generally detest. The food, service and acoustics won me over. On this trip, some years later I was once again very pleased with the food, service, acoustics and varied wine selection. It is however not cheap.

I loved having lunch here and started with the Deviled Eggs and had the shrimp salad. Which was as delicious and it looked. Beautiful blood orange and mandarin orange slices. Greens so fresh they tasted green and kissed with a citrus dressing. Divine! The server left a carafe of tea on the table for us to refill which was a nice touch. The artisan bread and salted butter was undeniably fabulous. Light, airy and chewy center and the crust did not disappoint. Beautiful well lite space. Go!

If your taste runs to cavernous, noisy venues, thus would be a good place. Do not come here if you want a low key, intimate experience. It was a while after we were seated before someone came to greet, take order.
I can't fault waiters, they were taking care if large table groups of 12 and several other tables.
Table geometry was also weird, had to squeeze into our table. I pushed it out to get more space.
Boulevard and Gary Danko much better. Will not return.

An absolutely fantastic experience. My girlfriend and I cam here for our anniversary and we the time of our lives.

Out of the gates, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat at our table where they had placed a handwritten note thanking and congratulating us on our anniversary. A very kind gesture from the staff.

The sommelier was extremely nice and provided an outstanding recommendation for a greek wine right in my price range from their extensive list. She also provided us with food recommendations that were amazing.

We both had the salmon and I thought it was strange how they ask if its ok that it is cooked medium rare, as fish is normally just cooked, but sure enough it was, and you could taste the difference. Booming with flavour and complimented perfectly by fall vegetables and delightful salted taro chips. It was incredible!

Also started with the butternut squash ravioli and it was amazing! The truffle flavours were something to behold.

Finally, we were so full from dinner we couldn't manage to eat dessert, but they brought a flattened chocolate that said happy anniversary and some incredible salted caramels. So awesome!

Cant recommend this place enough, what a spot.

Great Again! Went to Prospect for a business dinner and had a superb experience. Cocktails, Starter Salads, and Main courses all 'perfect'. This restaurant is a real treasure, and has maintained it quality over the years.

I took my wife for her birthday celebration and the staff went above and beyond. My wife received a gift card which it was really nice and our waiter was super nice by giving her suggestions what she should try. The food was delicious, I recommend to try the heritage Berkshire pork chops. This dish was delicious!!!!! We can’t wait to come back
