I hate to write this review - as the staff was great!
However... both my boyfriend and I got sooo sick after eating here. We both had two different burgers and were so ill from them.
I feel bad - the place was nice - but I can't really recommend a place where the food made us sick after spending $100+ between the two of us.
Went there with my husband for brunch on saturday, food was great, service was also great!
Great little gem in the city. Enjoyed the food and sports.
Our appetizer was good, but our main course, both got the chicken tacos, the chicken was not good. But the atmosphere is nice. A nice place to get drinks at the bar.
Proper West is a goto spot for me. Great service and delicious sports bar food.
They called and Cancelled my reservation 2 hours before and left me scrambling to find a new place for my staff Christmas dinner
Food we ordered not as described on menu. Corrected though. nothing special about menu m. Bottomless brunch Bloody Mary had very little alcohol. But still tasty. Good spice and horseradish. Entrees in bottomless brunch were extremely limited. Hostess was amazing! Wait staff accommodating but not too quick to check up on the table.
Food menu looked great, but we came for brunch where there was only five options for food. The service was very slow for brunch (when the food we ordered seemed quite quick and easy - eggs/pancakes). Very beautiful interior however, might return for lunch or dinner.
I really can’t rate this place because after waiting an hour for apps in a half full place I bailed. Food never arrived. Assume it will be shuttered in a few weeks so not much warning is needed. You kind of have to serve food to be considered a restaurant
Service was “fine.” Servers were friendly, but I thought the drink/wine selection was subpar, the food mediocre and the burger was dry and over cooked. Mayonnaise covered it up. And Why do we need a bathroom attendant? So it’s not a bad restaurant, but many other places in New York serve the save food, but better.
We had been to the Bryant Park tree lighting and since there aren't very many options in the immediate neighborhood, I thought I'd give Proper West a try. So glad I made reservations! Though there was a vibrant bar scene, we had no trouble hearing our conversation in our booth for 4. It was very comfortable, the server was terrific........very accommodating, but not hovering over us. All our meals were yum and everyone was able to find something pleasing on the menu. I'd definitely come back. Nice wine/beer selection too.
The only reason that I didn't give it the 5th star was that about 3/4 of the way through our meal the A/C came on.............blasting onto our heads. It's December! It took several requests to different staff to get them to lower it. I understand that the bar area was warm, but the dining area was comfortable.........that is until they shot us up with a blast from the North Pole.
I went here with a friend while I was in town for a sandwich that was all over their social media. When we got there they weren’t seating anyone or taking reservations, so I went online and made a reservation that way. We then got seated only to be surrounded by open tables. Once seated the wait staff was either short staffed or had too many side duties because it took forever to put orders in, get simple drinks, and get food. On top of that they no longer had the sandwich and claimed to have not carried it for a while. It wasn’t a bad restaurant by any means and everyone was friendly. The atmosphere was nicely decorated. The food and drink were just okay. I couldn’t go out of my way to go back.
Really gross food. Eggs that come from a carton, guacamole that comes from one of those squeeze tubes, flavorless food, watered down mimosas with sickly sweet OJ. Severely understaffed too. One waitress was covering practically all the tables! Definitely wouldn’t recommend. It’s cheap for a reason!
We showed up to the restaurant for a 6:30pm reservation to be told by the doorman that the entire place was closed for a private event. No one from the restaurant called to tell us that, and it was extremely frustrating that they didn’t disable the ability to make a reservation if they were going to be closed. So, no idea if it is good, because we didn’t get to have dinner there. Very turned off by the lack of customer service, so unsure if we will try to go in the future.
Grabbed lunch before flying off - nice typical American sports bar food. TVs on but not too loud. Service was a bit long, probably a busy time.
Just didn't do it for me, it wasn't special, very diner like food. Waaaaaaay too loud for conversation.
Nice bloody Marys and mimosas as well as good food. If you're there for brunch, they'll stop serving you a while after you had your food but still a very enjoyable experience, and I'd go again.
Proper West was featured in an article on great brunches in the city, which is the whole reason we went there. Because there was a college football game that day, they didn't have their brunch menu, which was disappointing since that was our reason for going, but we had to order off the regular menu instead. We ordered sliders, wings, and the truffle mac & cheese, as well as one beer each. The slider buns were dry and the sliders themselves lacking in flavor, the wings were dry and not great. The mac & cheese was decent, and the beers weren't very cold. When our bill came, for only those three items and two beers, our total was $72. Definitely not worth it! We will never return, even for their brunch.
The noise level was not what I expected. It was extremely loud in the bar and restaurant. I was happy to have vegetarian options but a bit surprised that the Buddha Bowl was served cold - maybe I shouldn't have been since it was listed under salads. I would return if I were looking for a place to watch a football game and enjoy a beer. Conversation will suffer here unless you like to scream to be heard.
Went here on a brunch deal. It was quiet for one in the afternoon on a Sunday.. But I think this place is better suited for sports with all the great TVs. The brunch menu was limited but they were super flexible with it. We brought our young daughter and they were more than willing to fulfill requests for off menu chocolate milk and egg "sandwich". Definitely get the bacon!! And the Bloody Mary was excellent. Would go back for sure.
Great quiet place to watch the games on a Sunday, nothing too crazy!
I like this place because even though it's more of a sports bar, they do have tables and you can make a reservation. I came with one of my girlfriends so we could get a bite and catch up. I very much enjoyed my short rib grilled cheese and highly recommend it. It was definitely loud in there, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. Plus they had some games on so that was great too. It's a good midtown spot that isn't too crazy.
Definitely enjoyed my time here. A sophisticated sports bar for sure, their food is the perfect blend of “upscale New York “ and sports. Although some customers were very spirited during our visit we had a fantastic experience! Would recommend.
Exceptional experience at Proper West which offers a great vantage point for viewing games and great music to fill in the gap/silence. Great service, food and drink for brunch and extremely enjoyable ambiance for a loud sports bar. Pleasantly surprised and looking forward to my next visit.
Waitresss was pretty cool, service was fast and the decor as really lovely. I liked the drinks!
Great food - loved the Caesar salad with truffle oil!
Hidden gem on w39 st. Amazing brunch.
Food was excellent. Service outstanding. Looking forward to going back.
Absolutely one of my favorites! The atmosphere is great for having intimate conversations and the service is spectacular! Go for the bottomless brunch!
Poor service, burgers overcooked (when asked for med-rare), and in general not a great experience.
Went to watch the Portugal vs Uruguay match here for the World Cup and loved it. Food & drinks were excellent. Will be back again for sure
World Cup game
We were in and out pretty fast which was great as we were headed to a show. Everything was good, except the noise levels, which should have been expected during HH. Sat us at right on the reservation time. Great mojitos.
Went to the restaurant to order one specific entree. 15 minutes after ordering, I was informed it was not available. Substitute entree was overdone and dry. Nobody refilled my water glass until it was time to pay the bill. Cocktails were not good either.
Great midtown option for lunch or happy hour. Clean, comfortable, great service and yummy food!
Nice place to gather, eat, socialize and enjoy games on nice size Monitors. If you're seated for a meal, be prepared to be rushed through the meal. Small bar and restaurant so need to turn tables faster than usual. Bar area gets tight fast after work, but no one is rushing you out.
Way too loud. Not too many people, but suggest layout or something needs to change to reduce noise-level. Food and staff were great and it’s a cute place, but so loud I was uncomfortable. Bummer.
Had a late dinner over the weekend. There were very few customers and we had our waiter just about to ourselves.. He turned down the volume on the televisions at our request so that we could talk.
The complimentary potato chips made for a great starter. My friend had the burger and I had the salmon burger: both were really good.
I wouldn't want to go when the place is busy since the noise level would be deafening but on a quiet night the place makes for a very relaxing meal.
Waitress was awful, was on her phone will trying to close out the check.
Awful. The service was good but other than that steer clear
Empty restaurant. Food (buffalo chicken sandwich) did not taste fresh.
