Proof Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Slow service and food took forever to come. Pork chop , scallops, and gnocchi entrees were excellent. Chicken and Wagyu Hanger steak entrees were average. Salmon flatbread appetizer was a disappointment. Steak was cold when it got to the table and fries side dish was forgotten altogether. Needless to say, poor cost benefit.
While the food here is excellent, the restaurant's wine list is pretentious, overpriced and almost impossible to figure out -- making a customer feel uninformed and cheap. Plus the lighting is absurdly low so that you cannot read the menu or multiple pages of wine offerings even with their clever gadgets. We don't plan to eat there again.
It’s got a great vibe and wanted to love it. Interesting menu but food really fell short. Entrees were served Luke warm. And we were so excited but it was really just ok. Example - we got risotto fries- sounded amazing- they weren’t. They just were greasy and not that tasty. We were recommended the flash fried cauliflower- been on the menu 10 years. Got it and it was just ok. Nothing special. At all. They need to up their game in the kitchen.
Our sever, Michael (Mike?) was amazing. He had a tremendous knowledge of the menu and gave us some terrific recommendations. The Wagyu Carpaccio was absolutely amazing, and the Veggie Gnocchi was worth getting even though I usually steer clear of non-meat dishes (not a knock on veggies/vegans; I just perfer the meat!). But that gnocchi has changed my life. I can't wait to go back and try something else. Everything was SO FRESH. My only disapointment was that our entres came out and were room-temperature and had to be reheateed; but the service was excellent and they did so immediately. Will definitely be coming back.
My mother and I dined here before a show at the national theater - easy walk from the restaurant. Everything was wonderful from the service, education of the wine and we’ll understood menu from the staff to the food itself. So. Yummy! My mom is from Missouri and said the pork chop was the best she’s ever had. I agree!
Great service, but the food and wine selections (by the glass) did not justify the price. The sea bass was bland and a bit fishy. The oxtail agnolotti was good, but not $36 good. The wine selections were average and not a great value. Our server was awesome though!
Once again, Proof hits a home run. Wine people rejoice, The Dalle Valle Vertical is not to be missed. The new Coravin options allow for 2 ounce samplings of some amazing wines. Split a salad and sample the charcuterie for sure. The Prosciutto was divine and a perfect match for any good wine. Even though our entrees arrived cold, they were perfectly cooked (we both had fish) so we were hesitant to send it back and try again. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly and we will definitely return.
Nicely designed restaurant in a high traffic location. The food was good. The service was well meaning, but very amateurish which is has become pervasive in my recent dining experiences in DC. I have no problem paying for quality, well prepared food, but the restaurant has an obligation to provide a service experience commensurate with the food the kitchen prepares and the price of the meal. It appears that servers are ill prepared and mostly untrained, therefore unskilled.
Very nice evening, as always. Consistently superb service. Nicely paced, not rushed at all, but never lacking for anything. Relatively quiet atmosphere with no loud music - very much appreciated. We always eat tapas style, but there is a very good main course menu as well. Butternut squash soup, quinoa salad and duck liver mousse are standouts. Pork and veal meatballs were also excellent. Just wish they'd bring back the foie gras and cherries . . .
Food was pretty good, however service was a little lacking. Waitstaff seemed to lose interest in us once it became apparent that we would not be ordering any expensive wine from their rather extensive selection. Took them a long time to clear our plates once we were finished with our meal. Restaurant has such a low level of light to the point that the staff actually gives you a mini flashlight in order to read the menu.
Arrived early on a busy Saturday night for a special birthday celebration. Was pleasantly surprised to be immediately seated at a lovely corner table. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Waiter was a cheerful and poised young man. Happy and upbeat disposition added to a festive atmosphere. Tuna tartare appetizer, veal and pork meatballs, and gnocchi appetizers were fabulous. Lamb main dish and Haddock main dish were wonderful. Haddock was a bit spicy. Complimentary champagne toast and dessert were appreciated for birthday celebration. Nice touches. Highly recommend!
My waitress was amazing. I left her a $20 . I’m not sure if her name but she is a black woman with blonde hair and she’s about 5’6-5’7 . The host was amazing as well. Very sweet and considerate of our needs and situation. I have to admit the meat is phenomenal. Even if you get it “well done” it’s tasty and very well prepared. I had a steak that was well done and I got another that was medium well and they both were great!
I would go there again !
Service was horrible. We had two waiters split our service and didn't seem to communicate at all. Waiter was weirdly talkative, and kept hitting on my friend and then asked us if we were lesbians when we were visibly uncomfortable. Portions weren't worth their price. Won't be back.
My husband and I were blown away by the food, drinks and service. Everything that we ordered was spectacular. It's definitely on the pricier side, so you need to be willing to spend some money, but it is well worth every penny. We could not get over how delicious every single item was. We also loved that they had local ingredients as well.
Friends from overseas were visiting and asked me to choose the restaurant. Based on an excellent lunch from some months ago, I chose Proof. It was a Monday night, so was quieter, although we had a large group at the next table. Service was excellent, though there was a small glitch with one of the appetizers that was fixed quickly & to our satisfaction. Food was great (I highly recommend the pork belly main course). Everyone was very happy with the food and the pacing of the evening. Proof has an extensive & varied wine list and the wine with dinner was fine, though not exceptional. Definitely a place I would recommend to foodies. We will be back!
Sunday brunch here was excellent....a must have the cinnamon brioche buns with lemon icing (loved that lemon icing). Cheese plate to start with honey from baltimore and nice crispy nut bread. The matilde omelette was so fluffy. The eggs benedict pairs great with a Pimm cocktail. The angry eggs are nice and spicy. We'd definitely come here again.
The restaurant was hard to find--the outside sign was not lit, and I had to circle around 2x until I called them for guidance. There was a 4-top next to us and they were loud, but we didn't complain - we just had to speak louder. The appetizers came quickly but the entrees took quite some time, and we had to call the waiter to ask. I also ordered the guanciale to start with, but it didn't come with the other apps--the waiter forgot. The food was good. It will be a while before I go back there.
