Proof missed the mark for us. While our server was attentive his recommendations were terrible. We asked him to recommend some mild cheeses but two of the three ended up being sharp and pungent. Stay away from the curried cashews - they’re flavorless. I expect curried anything to be exciting to eat but i think they tossed unsalted cashews with curry powder and roasted them. Blah. I had the gnocchi which would’ve been good except it was covered in so much Parmesan that all i could taste was cheese. My husband loved his ribeye - that was cooked to perfection and was the lone bright spot of our meal. We will not be back.
Food was luke warm and not plated well. Actually found a hair in our dessert. Sun setting on this place. Won’t go back.
This was my second dinner visit since PROOF opened. Otherwise I've been there many times for weekday lunch. In the evening the lighting level is too low. After some 10 years in service it's time to ramp up the lighting. It is so dark that it's difficult to actually see people. Also the chairs are showing their age with worn portions on them. The food is very good but it's time to remodel the dining area.
My husband & I have been dining at Proof since 2009–one of our early date spots. We always enjoyed the pre-dinner cocktails at the bar—excellent bar tenders. The food is consistently very good—-we always get the tuna tartare & the cauliflower side dish. Very nice wine list. Service is always pleasant and professional; they clearly do a good job with training the staff.
Good food, great service. Nice and quiet, too, though we dined early so it may have gotten louder as the place filled up. Bottom line - we'll be back.
All the food and wine was excellent. There was a lag before our orders were taken. Group of 5.
Went for brunch. Not in the least like a normal brunch menu. Check menu before booking.
The cheese board and meat board were out of this world and the wine was amazing. Not much else to say, go check it out.
Great ambiance. Interesting food selection. Fantastic wine selection. My only complaint is that the food was a bit on the greasy side -- but tasty nonetheless. Will go back again to try more on the menu.
Went for a pre game dinner for a birthday. Worked perfectly!
Food: Amazing. The gnocchi, pork belly, and pork chop were top notch. We also had the pickle plate, curry cashews, beet salad and cauliflower. The beet salad can’t be “beet”
Service: Our server Jose was very attentive, knowledgeable, and more than happy to accommodate our food peculiarities!
I would highly recommend giving it a chance. I know there is a lot of competition in the area but it’s definitely worth a visit!
Outstanding wine bar with excellent selection of wines by the glass. My husband had the carpaccio and goat cheese flatbread. Both were delicious. My meal would have been 5 star if not for the soup being lukewarm. The gnocchi was out of this world!! Don't pass it up.
Cheeses and wine were great. Entrees were pretty good. Wouldn’t recommend cocktails, but it is a WINE bar. Whole experience started off awkward with the hostess. We thought service was mediocre to say the best but we may have just misread our server who seemed disinterested and maybe a little bummed to have us there. We ended up having a good time despite the rocky start and they made an effort to finish strong.
Celebrating a birthday after Kennedy Center show. Food was spectacular. Service perfect (although a little slow to start because of several tables by our worked to start by our waitress). Good pace. The only not so good is how dark it is. So dark at the tables that they provide little lights to see the menu, but would also be better if more light to be able to see what we were eating. As stated very good but enjoyment would have been better if could see better.
