Proof on Main
It has a good vibe and fun atmosphere, but left us wanting something more. The drinks were good and the food was good, the corn bread was phenomenal, but service definitely lagged behind as we had to flag down our server on multiple occasions for refills and orders.
Another outstanding 21c Museum Hotel experience! First visit to the Louisville location and Proof on Main - will NOT be the last. Thanks for a great visit!
We love this restaurant because of how unique and delicious and locally sourced the food is, how focused on us the service is, how beautiful and compelling the decor is, and how close we are after dinner to a terrific museum.
Service was fantastic
Overall good experience. Half of our food was top quality, the other half was subpar considering the reputation and the prices of Proof.
Food was amazing, service was friendly and professional. My only complaint was my dish was very small to cost $40.
I have been here before and loved it. I also have worked in restaurants ranging from a chain sandwich joint to a three star place in NY. Let me preface by saying that the food is still great here. The service though... I know that coming from a Michelin Star environment, my standards can be higher that normal. But... I don’t think it’s crazy to expect your server to know the dishes, or tell you about the specials without you asking them. On the same level, maybe they could actually deliver one of four courses or explain a single dish on the table. They also could offer to correct their mistake when they pour a new bottle of wine into a glass from the previous one. I might come back here and see if this turns around, but I will make sure that no one I work with brings our clients here again until I verify that someone here cares about how they serve their guests.
Honestly this place was really overpriced and not worth the outing. The food wasn’t bad but it was such a small meal. This is just my opinion, so if you like quaint, small, fancy meals, more power to you and this would be good for you. But if you want your moneys worth, there are much more valuable options.
Valentine’s Day. The ambiance and setting was nice. The food was okay, but did not match the ridiculous price. $78 for a ribeye that wasn’t cooked that well was not expected.
First time there and they had a set menu which was okay - very expensive for what you got
Everything was excellent. The only thing was the menu change for Valentines Day. I Looked at the menu that afternoon to see what I wanted to order and made my decision before arriving.
When we arrived I was greeted with a completely different menu. Selections and price. I had no problem paying and leaving a generous tip. It was the “way” the price and selections were given to me. That was what I didn’t like.
Come on. You are a big outfit and get a good price for you food and lodging. Somebody dropped the ball.
The overall experience was great, the food was delicious and the server was great. My main complaints is that our table was right beside the kitchen that is completely open to the dining area and while I understand the need for the kitchen staff to communicate, it was loud and distracting. I wish we would have had a different table. Also, we attempted to order two completely different bottles of wine which they didn’t have. The wine list should be updated for events like Valentine’s Day ahead of time, especially if the meal is going to cost as much as it did (they did give us two glasses of wine, complimentary, for the inconvenience, and were very apologetic).
Overall, the experience wasn’t bad, and I’m sure we’ll go back for other holidays or celebratory events.
Based on previous meals from Proof on Main I would recommend it. This visit, the meal was a little disappointing. The menu wording was over the top - had to google some of the items. The pork chop was average and a little overdone, and we were seated tightly as a twosome. The drinks and service were excellent.
Very limited menu that was more focused on being edgy than being good. Every dish we had from appetizer on was uninspiring or frankly, not very good. There are way too many better choices to have a great meal and experience for these high prices. I will not be a future customer.
Brunch post stay at 21c. Good meal as usually. I had bison burger with fries and braised greens and my wife had new cast iron Dutch pancake with grits and sausage. Service was good and friendly. Nothing exceptional this visit but still one of our favorites.
A great night at a first class eatery. Major kudos to Manager Thompson Haire for making our night super enjoyable. Great person working in a great establishment. We will be back.
Great lunch atmosphere, we ran late, Proof on Main accommodated us regardless of our fault. Each of our lunch plates were fantastic. Thank you for allowing us still be seated.
Bourbon selection was fantastic. Food was good but not as good as I wanted it to be. Maybe I expected more of a tie in between bourbon and the food selection. Choice of sides seemed to be minimal. I would go back for bourbon/cocktails and maybe appetizers. Alex, our server, was great.
Excellent service. The French toast casserole is a must have.
Anniversary. Waitress wasn’t very engaging, or helpful. Seemed like she was too busy but the place was dead.
The menu wasn’t at all what I expected, hard to find something we wanted. Ended up having an app, wine and salad and left. Went to another place and spent $125 on entrees.
We unfortunately didn’t see much special about this place.
The food was great. We had a longer than usual wait for our food, but it was very crowded and we took our time to order. Great experience.
Love proof. Food is always amazing. Writing a review for the managers to get on those servers dirty gross apron. If Im spending $11+ on eggs, I expect servers to look clean.
The atmosphere was perfect and our service was pretty damn great. The wallpaper, the framed art, the lights, the ambiance.... all of it was truly something to look at and enjoy. We ordered the Roasted Bones with the kimchi and "wow" do they pair well together, even the sparkling water was amazing.
After a lovely dinner we walked through the bar that seemed to be pretty lively but we decided to go into the art gallery. The art was eclectic and progressive and was a nice add-on after our meal. There are great photo opportunities in there that make for wonderful mementos. We truly enjoyed ourselves and will visit again.
Sat at bar, great conversation with bartender.
Chicken was incredible.
Art is so fascinating. Take a walk around the hotel.
Worth a visit. Really great time.
The lunch was just as delicious as the dinner. everything that our table ordered was amazing! I feel like proof is more than just going to eat, it's an experience that I always enjoy.
My mother and I had a delicious dinner here, with all of the staff remaining attentive and reflective of a true team mentality in making our experience a memorable one.
Brunch before the theater was great on Sunday! Lots of nice menu choices that go from breakfast to lunch, and cocktails to match! The shrimp and grits are fantastic, and my entire party enjoyed their meals. Quick and attentive but not rushed service.
We were seated quickly. I love that they seat people far apart as best they can so that you have more privacy and don’t have to listen to the next table’s conversation. More restaurants should do this. Service was fantastic. Water glasses stayed full. Server was very knowledgeable and personable. Would have liked more options of wines by the glass, but the wine I selected was very good. Squash soup was very delicious. The salad I had was fair. Cauliflower steak was okay, but it could have been better (maybe break up the cauliflower more or grate it, shape it like a steak, add sunflower seeds or more cashews). Kind of wish they would slice the bread all the way through. Trying to rip off one slice was challenging and messy. Still love this restaurant and will be back. Great dining experience overall.
Excellent service and food. It is a very interesting dining experience as the restaurant is located within an art museum. Would definitely return for seconds
Love this restaurant and the food. Been there many times. Only problem this time was that one arrived luke warm. The problem was fixed but caused delay. Would have been a 5 star experience otherwise.
We went before the orchestra and had a lovely time. We have been several times since they opened and have never been disappointed. The service is great, the food is inventive, and the drinks are something to look forward to. One of my favorite places.
Really good brunch. We had bison burger with divinely delicious fries and the ham and cheese sandwich. Both rock. Service was so friendly with Gabby serving us and frankly having a very nice and informative conversation about her life plans. Fun to have a real talk and not just small talk. We’ve never been disappointed with Proof so kudos to another great meal, see you again in two weeks!
Always great food and service. Unique comfort food and everything taste great
The ricotta is amazing! We waited over an hour for the bison burgers on a not so busy night. Must have just been and luck. But they brought their beet salad out complimentary, which we didn’t really care for. The fries that came with the burger were amazing. The burger itself was good, but I think we could tell it had been sitting. It was warm and dry. The restaurant gave us 2 glasses of champagne and 3 scoops of ice cream for our 6 month anniversary, though. People make mistakes and it’s not a cheap restaurant, but they were very friendly and offered to make the dinner end well. Definitely will be back!
We had the Sunday Brunch and it was delicious. Great food, service and value. We will be back.
Smaller portions but very good. The sides were excellent. Main courses were pricey but good.
Service was great.
Overall, enjoyed the evening. Our waitperson, Kellie(?), was great. There when we needed her, invisible when not. Atmosphere was comfortable with a fairly quiet sound level.
We were very disappointed by one of the entrees. My salmon was satisfactory, a little more cooked than I prefer, but ok. However my wife’s dry aged ribeye was not what we expected for, I believe $55. It was supposed to be medium rare, but was closer to medium or medium well. It was also on the tough side. I’ve never bought a $10 ribeye at Costco that wasn’t better than this. Anyhow, the beet salad and sides were all very good. We will probably try Proof’s again, but not for the beef...
The service and atmosphere were wonderful.
Octopus starter was great. 30 minute wait for entrees. Server never checked on us or food. Asked to see manager who cane over and really didn’t apologize. Said it was a little wait and blamed us for ordering starter to come out first. Felt worse after manager stopped over. Will not return.
