Promenade Cafe and Wine Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation for 4 friends which included a toddler for a Christmas get together. We chose Promenade because it's quite a nice atmosphere and I've had enjoyable experiences here before. Unfortunately that was not the case on Sunday. While the restaurant was busy, it took 70 minutes for our food to arrive. After about 55 minutes, We asked our server to speak with a manager and were told no managers were on site that day and that the kitchen was very backed up. I pointed out to our server that a table of 4 ladies who had been seated after us had eaten, paid and already left the restaurant and we still had not received any food. The toddler in our party was starving and we had to request some bread and butter to tide her over. Our orders were all straight from the menu with zero substitutions. While our server wasn't rude, he was very unconcerned about the delay although he did end up comping all of our bills after 2 people at our table. It was also difficult to get coffee/water refills. I will not be going back to this restaurant anytime time soon l, if at all, because of this poor service and the extreme wait time for our food. I expected much better from a restaurant of this caliber.
It was my husband's 50th and although they kept it low key which is my husband's style, it was done with class by having kept the best table in the house for us (without the obvious Reserved sign on the table). And for dessert no singing or candles but an extra large slice of the chocolate cake for him with simple birthday wishes. Dinner of course was excellent! We will be back!! It was a perfect evening to remember.
I had enjoyed the restaurant many times but it is my understanding there are some 'new chefs'. I've always loved the tourtiere but the cooked beef/pork filling was burnt. I never send food back but did this time. Two others had Coq au Vin which was ok, polite for not so good, the Bison Burger was very tasty (fourth guest). The service was pleasant but slow. By the time we caught the waitress to tell her about the problem the others were will into their meals and I settled for a quick soup as we had a concert to catch. They were apologetic, didn't charge us for my meal replacement (soup) but no visit from the chef/owner and no other solutions re a dinner change. The restaurant was cold, we were by the window and almost chilled as we left. Not the best experience, will be a while before I return.
The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere was ideal for Sunday brunch. Be warned though, they stop serving the entire breakfast menu at noon sharp on the weekend (11:30am weekdays) so arrive early if anyone in your party is looking for breakfast, we were denied breakfast at 12:15...
We were really looking forward to dinner. Service was slow to begin, slow in arriving, and even paying the bill took forever. The highlight of the food was the excellent loaf of bread. French fries were cold, the steak one person ordered was cold, vegetables were cold, pork was dried out. We were very disappointed.
I was disappointed in the seating. We sat in what felt like a hallway to me. The service was great but my vegs were Luke warm to cold. The meat was a bit undercooked and really not much taste except for the maple flavoured sauce on my pork and the peppercorn sauce on my husband's steak. The New Strip was very thin considering the price. We drove a long distance to try this restaurant and would not do it again.
Came in on a Friday for lunch and they were extremely accommodating. Had a lovely table by the window overlooking WInnipeg's skyline. Dishes were a good size and great for sharing. Food was served quickly and the water glasses always full. Overall great meal and will definitely return.
We had a party of 8 dining. Food was good. Steak was great and mussels. The lamb was not so great. Wine choices were plentiful. Desserts were delicious. Our waiter was very friendly but seemed to have a lot of tables he was tending to so time lapsed before he could get back to our table. Overall I would recommend.
We went for breakfast and food was good, very affordable and had a great view of the skyline but they had mess up our order, fortunately it didn't affect of meal overall. The big issue we had was that we found ourselves killing flies a lot while waiting for our meal. We hope that it was a one time thing and willin to give them a second chance.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. We did the $30 fixed price 4 course menu with the $18 wine pairings and it was worth every penny! Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. My only (minor) complaint was that it was chilly inside so I had to keep my sweater on. Other than that, it was an incredible date night.
