Promenade Cafe and Wine Ratings and Reviews
Although the manager had requested that our party of 9 be set up by the door we requested to be moved into the dining area which was better. It was too cold by the door. Our waitress moved us without question. Our time was 4:30. All of our bills had to be redone because we were charged for after 5 prices. My Beef Bourgeois. was a bit chewy also. We had been there for brunch on Sat. so a bit disappointing as I had suggested the location after the theatre.
While the food was delicious (went there for Fried Chicken Week), and the waitress was really friendly and knowledgeable, the food delivery was quite slow for a lunch time meal. We were there was almost 2 hours which is too long for a work day lunch. Would definitely go back when I’m not in a hurry. Really enjoyed the food and ambience.
This has been my favourite restaurant for years, but we went the other night and the food was just terrible. I ordered the 100 Mile Poulet and received basically, boiled chicken breasts with some lumpy mashed potatoes. The dish was missing the listed puree and cheese. Very strange. I heard others complaining as well. I love good food but this was not good. I hope they can make some improvements in the kitchen because we've always loved everything about Promenade.
There was no heat in the Restaurant, but was not asked if we want to change seats to were it was warmer.
There was something wrong with the heater in the bigger dinning area. Two people kept there coats on while eating.
My feet were freezing.
Made for an uncomfortable atmosphere and everyone wanted to leave sooner than expected.
We made a reservation for four of us for Christmas dinner - especially for our little 95-year-old French lady. It was very special because we were early enough in the evening at the beginning of the week that we had the whole dining area to ourselves. So that made it unique, but such a blessing since my husband is deaf and noise can be very disturbing. Our waitress was super - joining us in laughter on occasion. It was a very special evening; thank you very much!
The food was excellent but....we booked a 12:00 noon time for a Sunday Brunch with friends, and we were quite surprised that they stopped serving their breakfast menu at noon. We had to order off the lunch menu, which was very good, but several people in our group were disappointed that they couldn't get eggs.
The service was great. We ordered the coq au vin and it was just chicken on top of mashed potatoes . For such a nice restaurant, our meal being served in a skillet was not very desirable and coq au vin should not look like chicken stew.
I would go back for the atmosphere and the friendly service but I would ask more questions how the food is prepared.
Fantastic food and service. We were not rushed during the lunch hour or made to feel like we needed to hurry. Good place to catch up with a friend or family member just before the holidays. Portions were reasonable and not so ridiculously huge that there was no wasted extras on the place.
Have been here many items in past and always enjoyed it, but was a bit disappointed this visit. Good ambiance and selection of dishes, nice quaint restaurant. However, my smoked salmon sandwich looked like it had been run over by a car and hardly had any salmon in it! Didn't feel it was good value for the money and presentation was lacking. When I mentioned to the server that my lunch was 'scant' she just asked me if I wanted a dessert...?!!? To be fair, I asked for a substitution - to have brown bread instead of a croissant - but I don't think that should have made a difference. That being said, everyone else's meals were good. Hoping this visit was just an anomaly...
I made a reservation for 4 friends which included a toddler for a Christmas get together. We chose Promenade because it's quite a nice atmosphere and I've had enjoyable experiences here before. Unfortunately that was not the case on Sunday. While the restaurant was busy, it took 70 minutes for our food to arrive. After about 55 minutes, We asked our server to speak with a manager and were told no managers were on site that day and that the kitchen was very backed up. I pointed out to our server that a table of 4 ladies who had been seated after us had eaten, paid and already left the restaurant and we still had not received any food. The toddler in our party was starving and we had to request some bread and butter to tide her over. Our orders were all straight from the menu with zero substitutions. While our server wasn't rude, he was very unconcerned about the delay although he did end up comping all of our bills after 2 people at our table. It was also difficult to get coffee/water refills. I will not be going back to this restaurant anytime time soon l, if at all, because of this poor service and the extreme wait time for our food. I expected much better from a restaurant of this caliber.
It was my husband's 50th and although they kept it low key which is my husband's style, it was done with class by having kept the best table in the house for us (without the obvious Reserved sign on the table). And for dessert no singing or candles but an extra large slice of the chocolate cake for him with simple birthday wishes. Dinner of course was excellent! We will be back!! It was a perfect evening to remember.
I had enjoyed the restaurant many times but it is my understanding there are some 'new chefs'. I've always loved the tourtiere but the cooked beef/pork filling was burnt. I never send food back but did this time. Two others had Coq au Vin which was ok, polite for not so good, the Bison Burger was very tasty (fourth guest). The service was pleasant but slow. By the time we caught the waitress to tell her about the problem the others were will into their meals and I settled for a quick soup as we had a concert to catch. They were apologetic, didn't charge us for my meal replacement (soup) but no visit from the chef/owner and no other solutions re a dinner change. The restaurant was cold, we were by the window and almost chilled as we left. Not the best experience, will be a while before I return.
The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere was ideal for Sunday brunch. Be warned though, they stop serving the entire breakfast menu at noon sharp on the weekend (11:30am weekdays) so arrive early if anyone in your party is looking for breakfast, we were denied breakfast at 12:15...
We were really looking forward to dinner. Service was slow to begin, slow in arriving, and even paying the bill took forever. The highlight of the food was the excellent loaf of bread. French fries were cold, the steak one person ordered was cold, vegetables were cold, pork was dried out. We were very disappointed.
