After a half dozen or so 100 mile round trips to eat at Prime over the past couple of years, we have been slightly disappointed in our last two visits. While the quality of ingredients and cooking is still top-notch, their seems to be a bit of slippage in just plain tastiness. The menu "reads" sensationally; one doesn't know how to choose from all the great sounding items. Some of them, not all by any means, just don't live up to the high expectations they set. While still a fine experience, the restaurant may have dropped a little in terms of value as a "destination" restaurant. We will still return at least once more to see.o check if our opinion is correct. The wine list still well chosen and priced with good range.
We've dined here each trip to Maine for over ten years. Remarkable for freshness of produce, mostly grown on site, and for the regionally sourced seafood that we usually choose as we visit from an inland state. The preparations are always interesting but straightforward, never outlandish. Service is always outstanding, relaxed and knowledgeable.
Just as everyone says, Primo is as good as its reputation. I had the duck which was very very good. But, I wish I had had a seafood dish instead, given the accessibility of Primo is so many wonderful seafood choices you can't get elsewhere. But, what I loved the most was my desert. I had the profiteroles. OMG! I was in heaven. Amazingly light. A wonderful gelato filling. And just a couple of caramelized nuts on the side. I was so grateful that I had saved room for desert. It was a real treat. My only gripe is that the guy sitting at the table next to ours was loud and his conversation overshadowed ours. I wish there was a way to politely ask people to lower the volume.
Beautiful place, great food and waitstaff. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and the chef? acknowledged it by writing it in chocolate on our dessert! My only complaint is we were not seated until 30 mins after our reservation.
Wonderful to know the food is so fresh due to the garden & farm on site. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family close by.
Primo never disappoints. had a chance to walk around the gardens - then 45 minutes later some of the garden produce was on our plates!
Number one on my list in Rockland was to have dinner at Primo. We went for a run in the morning and ran there to see if the pigs, chickens, gardens were as real as the web site showed. It was better! The food was filled with flavor and so fresh.
Will go back again to experience the upstairs dining.
Service was awesome, new the menu very well.
We arrived 15 minutes early for our 8pm reservation on a Friday night and were seated immediately at a wonderful round table for 6. Our server was very attentive but not overly so. We all had either an app or a salad spring lettuces, escarole salad & foir gras ,everyone was extremely happy with their choices. The entrees were incredible - papardelle, swordfish, mahi. The Budino dessert was the best chocolate dessert cake ever! We all agreed it was one of the best meals out. Forgot to mention the fresh cut assorted breads were a great start to the meal.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Primo last week. My food was perfectly prepared and presented. I was with three others and two of the three were very pleased. One was not and it was because she ordered something that she realized was a mistake. The food I believe was prepared very well - it was her fault. I would definitely return for a special event.
We absolutely enjoyed our food, and dining experience as a whole. Service was good, especially in the bar area prior to being seated. However, our waitress not attentive. Pleasant enough, but missing the level of service that you would expect.
Excellent all around. Worth going out of the way to have dinner here.
This is by far, one of the best restaurants on the east coast! The waiter was knowledgeable, polite, and friendl and the food was unbelievably good!
Great service, awesome food and presentation. We cannot be more satisfied.
This was my first time dining at Primo and the experience, including the food, service, and ambiance, surpassed my expectations.
We had a late reservation - advise diners to reserve well before the date! Waited too long for the main course - although it was excellent, we would have appreciated it more if it had come more promptly. We were brought some free tapas from upstairs bar - delicious! Next time, we will come early and have a drink and tapas before dinner... I recommend the "fresh from our garden today" salads - I had red lettuce and beets - perfectly dressed, just the right amount.
Always enjoy our experience at Primo's -- the owner Price runs a fine restaurant --quality and excellent service very attaentative. We are from MA and when we visit the Rockland area which is once or twice a year --- Primo's is always on our list
Each course led beautifully to the next. Everything was done top shelf with attention to every detail, both visually and sensorially.
From farm to table, simply outstanding.
One of the best, anywhere! That's why we travel 700 miles to eat there.
The staff was elegant both in appearance and attention.
My single Malt was one of the most appealing pours I have ever had
The ambiance (enhanced by the staff) was superb
Entrees looked great as they passed by ( I made a bad choice)
Price point was as anticipated and fair Mostly impressed with the charm and professionalism of the staff
Fantastic - one of Maine's best!
Our third time to Primo. Well worth the trip, the food was excellent.
This is arguably the best restaurant in Maine; certainly in the top five.
The duck was unbelievable!
Excellent all around!
After a most unfortunate server experience several years ago, we decided to give Primo another try. The food has always been extraordinary and that still holds true. The food is incredibly fresh, and the homemade cavatelli was perfect! The service was truly outstanding. Ed was warm, happy to entertain the smallest questions about the menu, and engaged us in a convivial manner. It was apparent that he enjoys his work and wanted us to enjoy our evening. The wine list is varied and reasonable. And do save room for dessert - the s'mores sundae is well worth it!
Our third trip in six months, and second dinner left waiting. We sat for two and a half hours there and that's a bit of a stretch. I do respect the fact the restaurant is always busy, and good for them. They are that good. But the kitchen needs to catch on.Excellent bottle of Valpacella. But that 5-mushroom, home made pasta is Really Very Good. Dessert not so much this visit, but the espresso is very good. We're going back, without a doubt. This is a very fine restaurant.
I loved everything about this restaurant! I took pictures of everything brought to the table because the presentation was so beautiful and earthy. We drove a long way to get there and it was well worth it - a very special dining experience and we look forward to our next opportunity to go back!
the food was wonderful, most is made from things grown on the premises and the quality is evident. We had a penne with braised veal as a appetizer, delicious, We both had steak for entrees, one a ribeye with onions and the other a NY strips with onions, turnip, onion strands and fingerling potatoes. Beef is local, grass fed. Dessert a blueberry, nectarine croustade and house made gelato were excellent. marshmallows and truffles are a nice thank you as was the goatcheese with crackers. Our server,Alex was knowledgeble, efficient and took the time to explain menu items, answer our questions and made suggestions with a smile. She was very busy but never rushed. A little too noisy.
Absolutely as wonderful as I had heard. The flavors were so deep and complex.
This was our second visit to Primo and it was thumbs up all the way around. The service, food, staff, etc were top notch as always. We had a great time and definitely look forward to going back again in the future.
Outstanding preparation, presentation, and ambiance.
We have been to Primo a few times now. We have a summer home in Maine and a visit to Rockland and Primo is always our last adventure of the season. We have never been disappointed. Everything is always so amazing, and we are tasting the extraordinarypairings and flavors for many weeks after we have returned to our winter home in WV.
I wish you had more stars than 5 for this outstanding restaurant! It was a truly memorable meal, delicious and creative.....we enjoyed every bite. Our server was outstanding as well and gave us some good suggestions for ordering. Our only regret is that we don't live in the area but we definitely will return when the opportunity arises.
Outstanding! I am not looking forward to eating again knowing what food can taste like!
Fabulous! We arrived a little before our reservation, so we went up to the bar for a drink. We squeezed in at the end of the bar and had great drinks and tasty smoked almonds. We were seated at our table promptly and we were delighted to have more breathing room to enjoy our dinner. The service was top notch as was the food. We would definitely return.
A gourmet's paradise - by far the best restaurant in midcoast Maine.
The salads here were amazing--really stood out. Also loved our entrees, everything was so fresh! Prices were a bit high for Rockland, but a good special occasion dinner.
One of the best meals ever! Great knowledgeable wait staff added to the enjoyment of our dining experience.
Had another fabulous meal! Don't miss the Bronsino if it is on the menu. We have been coming here for 12 years, almost as long as Primo has been open. It never disappoints and continually astounds us with the freshest and most creative food. Melissa and Price grow,or raise ,a lot of what ends up on your plate. And it shows in the quality. It is my go to restaurant, and will continue to be for many years to come.
