Primo Italian American Cuisine
My wife and I have been to Primo several times and we have tried many different menu items. The food has always been delicious and well prepared. The service is very good.
Overall very good experience! This is the second time eating there and can say the food is consistently good. It doesn’t have that “wow” factor but I wasn’t looking for that. Very chill and relaxing spot. Would definitely eat there again!
Food was excellent. Chicken Marsala was moist and full of flavor. Steak melted in your mouth. Minestrone soup was the best we ever had and the vanilla bourbon bread pudding was outstanding.
One of the best restaurants in the area. Every time I have guest from out of town, Primo is the place to dine.
I loved the french fried crispy onion rings and the planked salmon. My friend loved the lamb shank. My husband disliked the chicken saltimbocca saying it was tasteless. My other friend disliked the shrimp and lobster risotto. They wanted the oysters on the half-shell cooked more; they were cold.
The service by Ryan was outstanding. I would return for onions and salmon and the yummy desserts. We had lavender cake and bread pudding with great gelato.
Went for our 4 year anniversary. Had a great time and definitely ate too much.
We had excellent food but it was not hot. Our table was a party of 5 and all of our meals were just warm. Our waiter was attentive and fun. It was very loud and hard for some of our party to hear what was being said at our table. My husband and I will be back.
Did not recognize the place when we walked in. If you have been there previously (under the old name), give Primo a chance. The owner did a very good job at changing this over to a well decorated, high end place to eat. My wife, who has been all over Chicago/Milwaukee etc... can't wait to go back.
We skipped the app this time around to save room for desert.
We both had the specials like normal.
I had the Cheese Tortellini, Very fresh vegetables with this. Almost like the inside of a pot pie. No complaints and big enough to have leftovers for lunch.
My wife had the seared filet. The meat was done just like we like it, and she got it because we both really enjoy the black truffles.
We had the cheesecake again for dessert, until you have real creme bruelle this may be our favorite of the regular deserts.
Danielle is always pleasant and she will be keeping my wife in Tea until such time as you serve hot chocolate.
The food as always was good..only down fall of this visit was the service. Our drink order was taken quickly but the server took a while to come back and take our dinner order. Half of our table was offered drink refills while the other half was not. After our food was delivered our server did not return to ask how dinner was, she only returned to offer a dessert menu. Still love Primo but the service this trip wasn't as good as it has been in the past.
Great service delicious dinner
Primo is mine and my husbands favorite restaurant in Lake County. The owners are always there, which means they care about their business and customers. The food, drinks, and staff are always excellent.
Incredible! Hands down best restaurant in lake county. Food, ambience, wickedly efficient staff, ownership is unparalleled in the area. Absolutely recommend! Generous menu items, preparation is exquisite , high quality and creative. Coconut halibut, the sea bass, the Waygu meatball, and omg the desserts!
Nice leisurely lunch. We chose a spot midway between Chicago and Milwaukee for a family get together.
All had a good time. Good selection on both lunch and brunch menus. Service was excellent.
The Kayaks do an amazing job wit’s the menu and the staff . The food was delicious cooked perfectly ! The service Marco was professional and was always on the spot when needed!!
We tried 3 of the specials Friday
Italian Saganaki - perfect for a cold day. a little more bread points but very tasty, fun way to start out.
Grilled Swordfish, my wife had this, it had a lot of butter, but that didn't take away from the swordfish. Just the right amount for her to eat the whole meal. We will be trying to make this at home.
Confit Pork Shank This was done just the way I like it but the mushroom risotto rice was the best part of the meal, I ate too much rice. We ate too well for dessert maybe next time.
Danielle was excellent as always. She keep my wife in tea and honey.
The food was excellent. Service was top notch. Great night to get together with friends
This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The server was knowledgeable and attentive. The display of the dish was beautiful and tasted just as good as the presentation. We will certainly be back.
This was our first visit to Primo. Our party of 4 was seated quickly, our reservation honored without difficulty. The wait staff greeted us soon after we were seated. Our drink order was taken quickly and we proceeded to order appetizers for the group. We placed our main course orders with appetizer order.
The appetizers, which were delicious, came promptly. However, the main courses arrived as soon as we finished our appetizers.....in fact, the appetizer plates were being cleared and the servers were waiting with our main courses. NOT GOOD....felt like we were being rushed...and the restaurant was busy, but certainly not full. The main courses were served hot and cooked to our liking. We didn't complain about the timing and our server offered no apology. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and we ordered desserts for the table. These were served in an appropriate time after we were finished with our main meals. The food was very tasty and the desserts were terrific.
The food was excellent as well as the service! We are frequent visitors of primo! It’s an amazing place!
We had the appetizer special Italian Sausage Arancini. This should be added to the main menu. It was our favorite thing at dinner Friday. It was all good but this was star of the night. Just big enough for the 2 of us not to be stuffed.
I had the Tuscan Seafood Pasta, The fresh clams were my favorite part of this, nothing over powered anything in mix and I was able to bring home enough to share the next day.
My wife had the Picatta again, She like it a lot.
We had the Strawberry shortcake for dessert. This was the weak part of the meal. The strawberry and creme were fresh but the cake was a little dry. Not enough to have it sent back, but we may wait before we try it again.
Our server Danielle went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time while we were there.
Nothing special for the price My expectations were higher.
We went to Primo to celebrate my brides birthday. Promo has become our go to restaurant because of the consistency in the quality of the good and service. This time Charles was our personable and attentive waiter. There cocktails are generous in pour and they have a nice selection of wines by the glass and bottle. They have a nice menu with a variety of starters, salads, and main dishes. Their Italian style dishes are excellent as well as their fish, beef, pork and lamb offerings. My wife enjoyed a petite filet of beef with candied sweet potatoes and i had the pan sired bacon wrapped scallops on a bed of parmigiana risotto. I also had their Primo Wedge Salad which is a perfect combo of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese dressing and blue cheese crumbles. This is a nice restaurant and while dressing up isn’t necessary I’m always amazed at how casual (read into that sloppy) some of the patrons are. But that aside, we highly recommend Primo as a date night, special occasion restaurant that can become your everyday dining our location.
The food is good and the servings are ample. We have been here many times but this time, our waiter Juan was wonderful and made the meal even better. He never hovered but was always there when we needed him. He refilled water glasses, got things we requested promptly and was so accommodating the entire meal.
Great food. Great service. We’ll be back.
The taste of the food was fantastic, but I like my steak pretty rare so I asked for it cooked rare. When it first came back it was almost all cooked perfectly, but there was a section in the middle of about 30% of the steak that was still stone-cold. After I asked for it to be cooked more, it came back and still had a decent size cold spot in the middle. All my other experiences so far here had been fantastic, so I was just a bit disappointed, especially since the steak I got was an $80 prime tomahawk ribeye. Hope it’s better next time, but overall and from all my previous experiences, a fantastic restaurant!
Great food and service!
We tried 2 of the 3 specials.
We had the fired Calamari again for an appetizer, not sure if grilled or this is our favorite. My wife had the Stuffed Shells Neapolitan. Very good size portion, with just enough sauce. She could taste everything in it and nothing was overpowering.
I had the Lem Tarrgon Bass Oscar. First time for sure having this. there was enough crab that I was able to taste it in each bite. The Bass was perfectly cooked. The sauce was excellent. The only weak part was the Asparagus. They were overcooked and getting soggy. The Flavor went well with everything though. I would recommend it to anyone that can have shellfish
The owner really wanted to give us a dessert. We would have taken him up on it but my wife really was full from the shells and I also had not left room for dessert.
We do appreciate the offer, so far we love just about the entire dessert menu. We could have asked him to pick his favorite and we would have enjoyed it at home later.
This is a favorite place of ours! we have been many times and it always delivers an amazing dinner! great food, wonderful service and an amazing place! would highly recommend for special occasions, weekday dinner or anything!
Poor table selection near wait station, service lacking, bread need to be asked for, cleared table’s plates left near us on tray, should never have been left near tables in use, constant trays of glasses being brought to wait station, wait people congregating at this wait station.
Every time we get Ryan as our waiter we get great service
It was a great dinner we had, during their 4th year anniversary, the food was good, and enjoyed Elton John impersonator. We will be back there. My first experience was there Mother's day brunch, then conference dinner.
Everything was perfect! We wanted to take my sister out to a nice place in our area which is pretty hard to find. Primo is like a downtown Chicago restaurant in Lake county without the hassles of driving into the city. Brett was our server and he was delightful!! Thank you!!
I've been to Primo several times before for casual dinners and special celebrations. I have always had their ribeye and have never been disappointed. It is a huge serving so I always have leftovers. During our last visit, we started off the evening with an order of Malbec. Unfortunately, our choice was not available so we went with another that was offered by their sommelier. On to dinner. I decided to go with their scallops because I was not very hungry. As expected, the meal was great and even then the portion was still too much for me. The risotto and flavors just complimented the scallop very well. And the scallop tasted fresh as it didn't have the fishy taste if not prepared well. I cannot remember what my two friends ordered but they, too, were pleased. Midway through dinner, we ordered another bottle of wine. Sadly, the bottle we ordered was, once again, not available. The sommelier once again offered a replacement bottle which cost more than the one we wanted so he knocked down the price without us even asking. Of course this was appreciated. By the time we ordered dessert, we ordered another bottle but allowed the sommelier to make a recommendation and just went with that. This Cabernet Sauvignon was really good. It was the Austin Hope Paso Robles. It was not an expensive bottle either. I almost wanted a cigar to pair with it. So the 4 stars is for the excellent food and service. Took 1 star off for the two wines we ordered being unavailable.
Great service and great food.
We really enjoyed the romantic setting of the restaurant. The only thing that was an issue was that the table next to us had 3 kids running everywhere and under the table and yelling and drug the table cloth into the floor.
Waiter not knowledgeable, martinis not full, main dish presentations were a mess though OK tasting.
Beautiful restaurant with great food. Private party room; took us on time. Outdoor eating
We both tried 3 of the new menu items this week. The Italian Swordfish. Big piece of fish, good portion of pasta and cooked cherry tomatoes. Very light and plenty of food.
Grilled peaches and buffalo Moz salad. very good way to start. Light and just enough mint for us to taste.
Rack of Lamb with potato pancakes and pistachio. Very good. I asked for medium and the 1/2 I had there was just right but the 1/2 I brought home needed a few more minutes. Overall I would have any of these items again.
Danielle was very good with advice and making sure our drinks were exactly right. We had Cherry coke and Ginger ale. So she had to make these for us.
