Primo at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
Honestly, the service here was terrible. We had a reservation at 6:30pm but arrived at 6:15pm. We were seated by 6:20pm. At 6:40pm, we still had not even placed our drink orders. When we finally did, they came relatively quickly. It took 45 minutes to receive our dinner after ordering. The food was good; however, the scallops were not cleaned before cooking so they were grainy. We decided to order dessert, which took over 20 minutes to arrive at our table.
The thing was, the restaurant was not that busy. There were several tables open. We also heard other guests around us complaining about how long their food was taking. One table actually sent back their meals twice - the first time was because it arrived cold and the second time was because their steaks were poorly seasoned.
I will say that the manager was friendly and bought our first round of drinks. He didn't seem apologetic at all though. I do feel for him, because he spoke to all of the tables around us and listened to their complaints.
Such an amazing experience! It was for our anniversary and everything was great! The food and the low lighting made for an ideal date night and the staff was attentive but not overwhelmingly so, they had the perfect balance. I would definitely recommend and will return in the future.
Went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary (we were staying the weekend in the hotel). All of the staff went above and beyond to make sure that our meal was special- from beginning to end. And our servers were very attentive to our daughter as well as to us. Food was excellent (especially dessert- which they customized with our exact anniversary written in liquid chocolate!). It is a hotel restaurant, so prices tend to be a little higher, but pretty typical compared to other similar-quality hotel eateries. If in the area again, we are highly likely to return both to the hotel and Primo. We definitely felt special our whole time there!
Service and food was excellent! Got the Spanish octopus for an appetizer and it was very good. The scallops were my entree and it was outstanding. I'm very picky with seafood and I would highly recommend this place. My husband got the smashed pork and he loved it plus they even gave us these amazing lightly battered onions that I loved. Wonderful place. Portions are perfect size and the staff was awesome! Definitely going back!
What a fabulous dining spot inside a fabulous hotel. Tucked away at the end of Starr Pass Rd next to the Tucson Mountain Park, saguaro cacti cover the hills at the J W Marriott. The restaurant has a bar where pizzas are served as well as a dining room that is elegant and a menu that will please. Prices are a bit high but in line with what you would expect in a high end resort.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile. As we walked through the dining room, we observe the energy of the staff from the kitchen staff to the manager that was talking to guest. Our server was very knowledgeable, she went through the menu and gave us great recommendations. Food was unbelievable, it was so delicious, the flavors were succulent, one of a kind. We closed our eyes as we took our first bite, so much flavor, tenderness, over all a well balanced meal. Thank you for an unforgettable evening.
The soft-shell crab is back and it's as crispy and delicious as ever, and its accompanying salad has improved. If the Copper River salmon is still on the menu, it's truly one of the best fishes - bright orange and flavorful (I had it as tartare). There's a new wine dinner soon but we'll be out of town. The last one I attended was really good - great pairing of food and wine, and a good value at $75 (I think they might be getting a deal on the wine because the distributor/wine maker will be there, but not sure.)
We live in Tucson, but had not gone to Primo, so we decided to give it a try. This was our anniversary celebration dinner and it could not have been better. The excellent food, friendly service, and quiet atmosphere were perfect. And to our delight, a surprise complimentary, personalized dessert finished off the evening. We will return and bring friends to share the experience with us.
Although we have been to the Marriott Starr Pass many times, my wife and I had never dined at Primo. We decided to try it for our anniversary this year. Good decision! Food, service, and ambiance all excellent. We will definitely add Primo to our "favorites" list in and around Tucson!
We were so disappointed with Primo. It is doubtful we will return. First, the server brought the wrong bottle of wine. Second, the $45 steaks were unbelievably tough, and the sides were mediocre. Finally, the birthday dessert took more than 20 minutes to arrive. The manager apologized and comped one of the steaks, but the entire experience was just not worth it.
Softshell crabs are back! So light and crispy, and very well-cleaned, not gutsy like at some restaurants. It came with a tasty, but very chewy, salad. Am I the only person who doesn't like kale? The pizza special the previous week was a delicious chorizo with egg - terrific!
We made a reservation in advance notifying them we would be celebrating our 32nd anniversary. When we got there we were placed at a two person table which was very small. After we were seated, several other larger tables came open. We ordered A bottle of wine, salads, entrées, and was provided with dessert for the occasion. It was very difficult to put all that food on that little tiny table. It would've been nice had they put us at a larger more comfortable place. The food was good but overpriced. Wouldn't go there again. Server pleasant.
The steak was raw rather than medium, after recook, it was tough, fatty and not tasty. The calamari was greases, and over fried. The gelato arrived late and was melted. The whole meal was very pricey. Love the hotel, but will not return to this restaurant again.
Food was great, lovely setting. Food is very unique so you need to like that kind of stuff. We had one small problem. There was a group behind a curtain close to us and they were very loud. Not their fault, but it was not the atmosphere we were looking for. The staff felt badly and did everything possible. So, I would just check location of table if there is a big group in the private room, ask to be away from that. Cannolis, fresh pasta and scallops were delicious!
We have eaten at Primo in Orlando many times and have an excellent experience each time. Primo here in Tucson does not measure up to the Orlando experience. Our server, while quite pleasant, was basically overworked with too many tables. The restaurant decor was plain with no privacy between tables. A private and noisy gathering in an area separated from the main dining room with a thin curtain created a noisy environment.
We were looking forward to our dinner at Primo since we could only get a table 1 night out of our 4 nights in Tuscon. The restaurant is beautiful, but very noisy despite having few tables. We had a hard time giving our waiter our order and having casual conversation. The food was only OK. I had a garden salad and the venison loin while my husband had the mussels of the day (very tasty) and the chicken cacciatore with linguini (very little chicken and over-cooked pasta). We were expecting a much better meal for the price and the difficulty getting a table. The Signature Grille was better by far.
