Prime Steakhouse - Agoura Hills Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation on Open Table for my 26th wedding anniversary, only to get a call from the restaurant about two hours before our reservation that the entire reservation was reserved for a private party and that we could not eat there. Not the kind of service I expected from this place. Very disappointed in this level of disorganization.
We went here for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday. We usually spend special events at Ruths Chris but thought we would try something new. It was a big disappointment. When I made the online reservation, I followed-up with a phone call to let them know of the special occasion. First, when we arrived, the receptionist was no where to be found and another couple in front of us had been waiting for several minutes. We noticed our daughter and SIL already seated, so we seated ourselves. It took nearly 15 minutes for the waiter to approach our table and take drink orders. My wife ordered a Lemon Drop and our kids ordered wine. After about 5 minutes the waiter returned with the drinks. The wine was fine, but the bartender needs lessons on mixed drinks. Hint, mixed drinks have a recipe. A Lemon Drop should not be all vodka with a twist of lemon. It took another 10 minutes for the waiter to return and take our order. Throughout each course, our food was delivered by different staff members. At no time did the waiter return to our table to check on us. It took me flagging down someone to get my water refilled and the other drinks re-ordered (this place is small, it shouldn't have been difficult). We asked for a refill of the bread 3 times; finally on the third try we got the bread and the waiter blamed the busboy. The waiter finally came to our table with the check, never asking if we needed anything else. I cannot recommend anything on the menu as it was all plain and just "there". It was a disappointment to celebrate my wife's birthday in a place like this. I do not recommend. Either go west to Maestro's or east to Ruths Chris.
I would say that the food at Prime is plentiful, but question the quality. A case of, you get what you pay for...
Appetizers-very good: I had the tuna, my husband had the stuffed mushrooms
Salad-good: both had the mixed greens
Main-fair: my husband had the filet, he said it wasn't a very good piece of steak, and didn't finish it. I had the salmon, it was good.
we have been champions of PRIME ever since it opened in Ventura. We continue to bring friends and family here whenever they are in town. Prime has been our go to place for dinner, happy hour and special wine tastings. Tthe food , service and price is always outstanding. lately we have eaten at the Agoura PRIME and that too is outstanding. We brought visiting family this last time and they were enthusiastic about their experience. You can never go wrong with PRIME! Our server on October 20th was Maria and her service was excellent.
The for at this place is great, but every time we have been there the service has been glacially slow. From when you sit down and wait twenty minutes to order drinks, then all through the night. To the busboy who leaves your entrees sitting on a tray getting cold while he boxes up your appetizers. I don't know if they are drastically understaffed or just poorly train their staff, but if you intend to go there leave any other plans out of your night and check your service expectations at the door.
This restaurant was truly disappointing. The steak on one of our orders was charred black and chewy. It was a ribeye which should have been incredibly tender and juicy. It was none of those. Also, for the birthday dessert, the restaurant served my 10 year old a plate of tepid crumbled bread pudding and whipped cream. Who does that? I don’t expect a dessert on the house for a birthday - but if you are going to serve one- for a child - it could be something as simple as vanilla ice cream. They later offered chocolate lava cake as a dessert, which we ordered. Not only did it NOT have chocolate “lava” oozing out of it, it was hard and COLD - as if the cake was literally taken out of the freezer. It embarrassingly BAD. Open table should remove this restaurant from its forum.
This is our fourth time and we have loved it every time. It's our go to celebration restaurant. Decor is a bit dark but not so much that your uneasy. Service has been excellent except this last time it was ok. When you have to ask for bread three times - not ok. Food is always hot and tasty. My son's steak was to die for. Would recommend any time.
The service was so bad that we will never return there. We gave them the benefit of the doubt after reading so many negative reviews about their service. However the reviews were not wrong. There was three of us and two of the appetizers were brought out. The third was not brought out until the other two people were done with theirs. One of the three meals was ordered as steak but prime rib was brought to the table. That person got his correct meal after the other two were done eating. You would think the manager would come over just to say I'm sorry but no one ever showed. The server offered us a free dessert which is ironic because we were told they were bringing us a free dessert for the occasion we were celebrating.
Baked potato was luke warm on the outside and cold on the inside as though re heated. Steaks lacked flavor and salt and were over cooked. Shrimp resembled frozen Costco bagged shrimp. The kids burger has over fried French fries. The only thing good with this meal were the beverages. The service was not up to pAr for a steakhouse.
We have eaten at Prime on several occasions and always loved it. Great food, friendly service. No issues at all. We LOVE Prime.
But on our latest visit we had a screw up with one of our meals, and a HUGE party had shown up just before us and before the appropriate staff had arrived to help them. The group was over 70 people and they were 1:15 early. That left one server to take care of a PACKED restaurant, and it was NO fault of Prime.
So when one of our meals was brought out wrong (Prime Rib instead of Ribeye) it took far to long to get the correct meal, and when it did arrive everyone else was done eating and the steak was essentially raw and ice cold.
Our server took $10 off the price of that steak and told us that he had upgraded the steak to the bone in version. But it was not a bone in Ribeye that was finally delivered. Then, on top of that, the gratuity was added to the bill without explaining to us that it had been added. That should have been left to us. The irony is that I would have tipped our server more than they added. But we still should have been informed that it was automatically included.
Overall it was a series of unavoidable glitches, but it did affect our meal. We still had a great time and we will still dine at Prime. One bad experience does not brand a restaurant.
And I took the Ribeye home and threw it on the grill a couple of days later, and it was outstanding.
Ambiance was nice, server was nice, food less than nice, fish overcooked. When we told them we were celebrating 2 birthdays, they smiled. The server then offered us to BUY dessert, but didn't offer a complemental desert. So no celebrating and making 2 people feel happy. So why ask if we are celebrating an occasion. In the end the waiter brought a dessert and said he had to pay for it.
We were not too happy.
The Wedge salad was chopped up lettuce, the New York was not cooked in the middle and we weren't even asked how we would like it. the garlic Mashed tasted like they sprinkled have a jar of Garlic Salt on the top an the Scalloped potatoes were sitting in tons of oil. Not the best dinner we have had for the price that they charged. Sent food back and barely got a sorry or any discount off the bill. Very disappointing for an anniversary dinner that we wanted to be really nice. On a good note, the bartender makes a great drink.
Food is great! Terrible hostess.
Reservation was at 730. Hostess said since it was open table we would have to wait shortly. She took parties ahead of us. 45 minutes later she sat us in the bar. People were standing next to our table drinking since they had nowhere to sit. Same hostess was drinking and kissing a male at the bar. No wonder she took so long to seat people and was unorganized.
