Went to Preston's for Dine Out on my birthday. The atmosphere was somewhere between upscale lounge, and cheap sports bar, but divided in bits and pieces. The food itself was attempting to be upscale, and the presentation was good. The dishes themselves however, did not have expectations properly set on the menu so a couple came out and we were confused because they were not as we envisioned. Most importantly though, they tasted mediocre. The cook on the food was fine, they just didn't have flavour or balance. They weren't disappointing persay, they were just fine. Would not return - in a town like Vancouver, I can get 'delicious' at a half dozen places every block.
In their favour, the service was friendly, professional, prompt and exactly what I would expect from service.
I really wanted this to be a great Dine-Out experience, but unfortunately it wasn't at all. The waitress seemed nice, but was too busy to attend to our table properly. The kitchen put alot of time plating up nicely, but the food itself did not back it up. Seems like they must have ran out of salt in the kitchen as all the dishes were very, very bland. The korean beef wrap starters were okay, but the scallop starter was terrible, grainy texture in the puree and what I think was meant to be a prawn cracker, tasted like a piece of plastic, not a good start. The steaks were strangely uneventful (like actually, blah) and we couldn't get the attention of any of the servers to bring out some salt. They were too busy running back and forth and ignoring us. The cod was inedible. So dry and rubbery, like the fish had sat on the counter overnight. The rice balls that came with it though were nice. Desserts were ok, but the little bugs flying around our table and landing in our food was very off-putting... Though much of our food went back to the kitchen, we still paid in full, with tips. But we will not be returning and cannot recommend this place based on our experience.
The food overall is ok.
We went there for our friend’s 50 years old birthday. Each of us ordered the dine out menu and a cocktail. We also opened a bottle of wine. The service has terrible. They didn’t get the order right. The waiter was way to casual. When they served the dishes, they past the plates right across your face. Also it was a table of four people, but they ask us to past on the plate.
I felt very uncomfortable and embarrassed as we were the host of this dinner.
The atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. The acoustic guitar player was AMAZING 😋 the food (Korean lettuce wraps, striploin steak and toffee pudding) was so delish, I would definitely recommend it
Food was bland, and considering how quiet it was, the service was extremely slow.
Although they didn't have the reservation, could have been a glitch in the system, which didn't make a huge difference to us as they had a few tables available, it was a great experience overall. Food great, made in house, service was great.
Experienced the 2018 Dine Out menu at Preston's. It was a great value, but, there were a couple of issues.
1. Ordered a rare striploin steak, it arrived on the higher end of medium. This was replaced.
2. The honey butter was shaped in cling wrap then sliced off before each serving.. I was able to tell because the butter had a film of plastic going around it both times.
Very good, aside from waiting for the bill and average fries
Came to Prestons for NYE dinner it was the only place who had availability left. Its inside Coast Hotel, easy enough to find. We were taken to our table right away, nice ambience. It wasnt loud, our group could actually talk to each other. Got the set menu; for $55, they start us off with corn bread with honey sriracha(which they forgot but was reminded later on so they gave us extra). I ordered dungeness crab bisque; I dont recomment this, very salty. The other starter option was a salad with goat cheese-- my friend had this, looked delicious. We ordered drinks, started with jalapeno margarita--- THIS DRINK IS ABHORRENT! I was thinking the drink would be similar to this jalapeno margarita I had at Cabo Wabos in Vegas but oh boy was I wrong! It tasted like Windex with some spice in it. Alas, I could not finish it so I ordered the house white, a lot more palatable. As for my main, I ordered the Bouillabaisse with sable fish and mussels and a slew of other seafood-- contents were good, the soup/sauce portion was a little salty much like the bisque. I wanted to mention though my daughter ordered chicken and fries from the childrens menu. It arrived in a timely manner-- I love that! I wanted to elaborate on the chicken, wonderfully spiced! Crunchy on the outside and easy to pull apart on the inside-- we wanted to order more to go but the kitchen closed by 10pm at the time :(-- we will be back though! Then came dessert, fondue, japanese cheescake and prosecco jello shot--- my fave? Japanese cheesecake! It had the consistency of cheesecake but lighter, not as sweet but sweet enough, there was enough portion that you didnt overeat. It was divine! Will be back for the cheesecake for sure. Fondue was the usual riff raff, chocolate sauce etc. The jello shot wasnt executed as well in presentation; I didnt bother trying it. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for its ambience, great place to catch up with friends, great for an intimate group
Three of us went here for dinner on New Year's Eve. Service was excellent - friendly, prompt and professional. Two of us had seafood pasta ($28) which was delicious and generously prawned. Two of us shared the Signature Salad ($16) which was fresh and tasty. We lingered briefly over coffee and didn't feel rushed. Will eat here again!
We didn't like this restaurant at all, we went there for Christmas, the food was too expansive and not tasty.
Stopped in for a quick lunch and while the food was just good, the service was awful and unfortunately made the experience less than desirable. They were severely understaffed with only having one person working as hostess and waitress. After we got our food, we didn’t see our waitress for almost 20 minutes. The space was very nice, cozy, and comfortable, but if they continue to understaff, I wouldn’t go back.
Decent food with friendly staff. Nice seating area with a cozy atmosphere. Pricey parking nearby.
We waited about 10 minutes when the first 2 of our group of 3 arrived. When the hostess finally acknowledged us, she tried to sit us right by the entrance across from a very large party. When we requested to move to a quieter spot, we were accommodated but the third member had been sat at the original table. Our table had no drink menu to begin with, the ordering process occurred only after we flagged someone other than our server down. None of our food or drinks were brought by our server, he only seemed to appear after things were brought to us. The place was not overly busy to begin with so I'm not sure why things seemed to take a long time, nor was it clear as to why our server didn't have time for us. We finally requested the bill from yet another person and finally our server returned to our table to take our dessert order. We are locals, and will not return given this service.
Food was good. Service spot on. In and out in an hour.
Got there late. Not that full but they had two larger parties so they told us that food orders were delayed by 30 minutes. Saw others complaining since coffees arrived without cream and sugar or took a long time. Food mediocre. Clam chowder was a big bowl of cream and calamari tasted like deep fried white fish. Expensive for what we got.
Menu lacked information about nuts in main meals and desserts 90% meals contained seafood risky for some with allergy ,I won't be going back lucky I had my epy pen
I usually enjoy the food. The service has recently declined in the past year or so. The servers are very polite and friendly but the service is inefficient. There is little follow-up and after eating, we had to flag down a server to receive the bill. When the bill was delivered, it was for the wrong table. It didn't appear to be busy but perhaps there were other structural issues that management is addressing . I like Prestons and I recommend it. I understand issues occur at times. I will certainly give them another try. The food is usually good.
We went to celebrate Mother's Day and price was no object. This was By Far the Worst dining experience we have had in years! And we dine out a lot. We ordered three different meals - all highest priced items - and all three were dead cold - like refrigerator cold. Congealed sauces and icy food. They remade everything (so they said) and it came back almost as cold but on heated plates and so salty that it was inedible! We left starving and very disappointed. Do not eat here!! They don't even care
Worst restaurant experience EVER! Mother's Day early dinner for 4. One person notified the server she had less than 90 minutes before having to leave, but her salad was so late coming out she had to take it to go, and when she opened the package later, they had not included the shrimp ordered as an added protein! Instead, the shrimp were brought to the table after she had left. Two other diners ordered "Signature Salads" but after half an hour were told the kitchen was out of mustard greens & nuts. We just wanted salad & said they could make it with any greens & it still took over an hour more to be served. The hostess offered to buy drinks for the table but we stated they'd have to do better than that - so she then comped the whole bill. As we were getting ready to leave, another hostess came over to ask if we were ready for the bill! What a terrible waste of our time & a ruined Mother's Day! I'd far rather pay well for a good meal & good service than waste an evening out after having driven 38km to get to a lengthy and totally unsatisfying meal. Preston's should not have stayed open for business when they ran out of ingredients & capable staff. Whoever is in charge does not deserve to be called a restaurateur!
Went in on valentines day due to their regular online menu, found out they only have valentines day menu or bar food. The lady does not like fish food which was the only option. Their regular menu was not available so we left after just ordering drinks. Extremely disappointing.
Ventured into the hotel restaurant for breakfast just as it was ending. The server gave the right recommendation when I asked 'bacon or sausage, which is better'. Bacon definitely was the choice, the toast, oddly was fantastic and the potatoes although simple, were very tasty. Would return and have exactly this.
Really enjoyed our Dine-Out experience. Service was great and the food very tasty!
We will come back again.
Had a business meeting here, the signature salad was delicious and was a bigger portion than expected.
Interesting menu and great service. Try the chicken & waffles and the avocado fritters!
We tried Prestons for Dine out Vancouver. Excellent value, delicious food, and helpful service. Wine prices are a bit high, but beer and cider are more reasonable.
We came on a Wednesday afternoon for happy hour. The place was almost full at 5 pm! They have a large selection on their happy hour menu. We shared the (non-happy hour) chicken and waffle clubhouse and a kale salad. The waffles are fresh made in-house and the overall dish tasted great. The service was friendly and attentive.
We came here a couple years ago for brunch during the Vancouver Marathon and loved the food and very creative menu. So we decided to come back for lunch last week. Service was mediocre - for a hotel, I would have expected slightly higher customer service and friendliness. Menu looked great. Food was very good. Ambiance and comfort were good. I would return!
Excellent restaurant! We were visiting Vancouver from Australia and visited Prestons for our family Christmas dinner. We were not disappointed. The food was magnificent and the wait staff were so friendly. I would definitely recommend Prestons as a place to eat!
Unimprestons... Food was terrible. Service was okay. Manager Patrick made up for everything that went wrong! If the chef changes the menu, I'd consider going back!
Great restaurant and lounge....nice atmosphere, very welcoming, convenient for hotel guests. Service provided by Paddy O and Elsa was great....great food, did not have to wait long....would definitely go back and recommend to others.
We sat in the back while a group was occupying most of the front room. The restaurant was able to accommodate very well both our need for an environment for conversation and the group's need for a fun environment. Our server was very friendly and fast. The fast lunch menu kept its promise of delivering our meals in 12 minutes or less and the food was delicious.
Food a service were superb, lights were bright over the table and the sound level was a bit high for business conversation.
Nice variety of menu items. They were able to accommodate six of us on short notice. Chicken with waffles and avocado grilled cheese were hits as was the spinach and kale salad. Service was efficient and friendly.
Date night with wife. Food was wonderful. Staff pleasant and professional.
The service was really bad from the moment we entered the place, there was only 2-3 tables full and still took a long time to even place us ( although we had a reservation), the fodd was overpriced for what it actually was, very small portions and not tasty at all. The waiters were not attentive or friendly, requested a taxi at the end, took a while to get there and waited for us one block away from the restaurant!
We had walked passed here many times, liked the ambience from the outside and thought we would try it out. We are vegetarian/vegan and there seemed to be some choices. On a nice evening we are sitting in a booth with lights on so not a great ambience. The food was ok but nothing special. I ordered the Preston salad and it would have taken me the whole night to eat. It was full of dried fruits and nuts that were chewy instead of fresh in July!
Food was very good, but not overly gourmet or "fine dining." Fried cauliflower was a tasty starter, tuna tataki salad was flavourful, but the tuna only so-so. Companion enjoyed his pork chop. Decent wine selection by the glass... and overall, very good value, especially for downtown Van.
