Presidio Social Club Ratings and Reviews
We went to the Presidio Social Club for some dinner prior to an event at the Palace of Fine Arts. The place was busy but not overly crowded and no real wait for tables. The service was incredibly slow in all aspects and took over an hour from sitting down to get our main meal. We were very disappointed with the level of service. The waiter also was soft spoken and it was hard to hear him in the noisy atmosphere. The food was good but didn't make up for the slow service.
I would not go back to this restaurant. Took about an hour to get our food which was a burger, chicken soup, and smoked salmon on toast. When we asked to speak to the manager that tables around us who sat down much later received their food before us and that our waiter told us our food is out shortly but didn’t come out until 30 mins later, she said it was the chefs fault and that they are probably backed up. The managers customer service was terrible. Not apologetic or how can I make the situation better.
We had a very disappointing brunch at PSC. The service was absolutely terrible, and the food was disappointing. Multiple items of our orders (side of toast, coffees) never made it to our table even after asking our waiter to check on them. Of the dishes that did make it to the table, none were very good. For such a great space in the Presidio, the meal was a major disappointment. Such a bummer!
I've been here many times and while the food was as good as ever, the service on my last visit was appallingly slow and inattentive. We had to wait twenty minutes for our waiter to so much as ask if we'd like a drink, we had to go to the bar to request a condiment for our meal since no one checked in on us after the food was dropped, and once the waiter brought the dessert menu we sat for thirty minutes without any follow up. The manager and waiter were visible and the latter frequently passed and ignored our table. None of the runners or bussers were particularly helpful either (ignoring 'excuse mes' after dropping dishes). After waiting so long to order dessert, we were tired and gave up on the idea of something sweet and a nightcap and went to the front to request our bill - the waiter having ignored multiple signals. Our waiter dropped it with no apologies and the manager and hostess were pretty blasé as well. The food was very good and all of us live nearby, but we certainly won't be rushing back - nothing about our interactions with the staff felt positive or as though they cared in any way that we return either.
Love the cheddar bacon biscuit, however 1 biscuit for $6 is not good value, especially when the biscuit arrives at room temperature, too cold for the maple butter to melt. The latte also arrives at room temperature. Please serve these items "piping hot". Everything else is delicious and the service and accessibility is great. A favorite spot!
Food was good, not spectacular by SF standards. Prices quite high. Wine list had mostly highly priced wines. Our server was good but may have had too many tables to attend to ours very much. Very busy on a Tuesday night. Nice old building with a good "feeling" to it.
Make a reservation. It becomes crowded for lunch.
Our lunch included meat loaf plate, steak salad, and hamburgers. Everyone loved their meal.
The steak salad was delicious served with root vegetables, steak slices and topped with bean sprouts. It was delicious. The regular meat loaf meal was also very good and of course, so were the hamburgers served with ample frites.
Our server was accommodating, knew the specials and came to ask if everything was according to what we expected. We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed the meal very much. It was a bit cold in the room and the noise level grew as people filled the club.
In the past I’ve had wonderful experiences at Presidio Social Club, both for dining and just for drinks at the bar. Unfortunately this time the service was relatively poor. Our waiter forgot to take an order, kids’ meals were the last to arrive ( after we waited at least 10-15 minutes, then had to ask for them to be brought to the table) while the rest of ours sat and got cold, no apologies given for the late food, and he never checked in with us during the meal to see if we needed more drinks, refill our coffee, etc.
We were celebrating three birthdays, so it would have been nice to have a smile or other simple pleasantries. It was quite frustrating and left a sour note for us.
My first impression was good. The place is nice and bright and the building is very interesting.
Was not that impressed by the brunch menu. The beneigts were just glorified donut sticks and the chicken soup was fairly bland.
I took a star off because they did not offer any kind of almond or soy milk so I couldn't have coffee unless I wanted it black.
Come on! It's SF and you don't have a non dairy milk option?!
I took off the other star because our waitress failed to tell us about any specials and I just happened to over hear the specials from the next table while we were eating our meal.
So over all wouldn't recommend this place.
The Manhattans were iffy and the menu was really comparatively scare: short of a variety of choices. Two of the four people in my party declined to order entrees. Those two did order salads and one ordered an additional appetizer. None of us ordered a dessert. I had been before but I think I will not return.
Never eaten here before. Its location in the Presidio was noteworthy, as was its architecture. Ordered the butternut squash dip, taste was good but they should have included more toasted bread. The citrus salad was also good, and the liver and onions brought back pleasant memories. The Rua, a Cabernet Franc -Merlot blend was surprisingly good.
Nice background music added to the charm. But I had a "been there- done that" feeling as I walked away...
I have been to Presidio Social Club many times with a good experience and no complaints. Every restaurant has its "off" nights and I guess this was one of them. The place was totally booked out and we were in a side room. It was so loud/acoustics so bad that we couldn't hear each other speak, let alone the waitress. Poor girl had to shout at us and keep repeating her list of specials. We were at a round table of 7 so truly couldn't hear each other across the table. Our food all came at different times, despite it being a relatively simple order. 3 appetizer salads - and 2 came as appetizers so we waited to start for the 3rd, that ended up coming at the same time as the entrees - so suddenly we were all trying to eat our appetizers and our entrees at the same time. Our sides like Brussel sprouts never arrived, our bread (that we were told was warming in the oven and hence it was late and didn't arrive until half way through our entrees) was cold and like a chilled rosemary bread - with all the great breads in the world, to be served stale, cold rosemary bread was not a winner.
We would have stayed for desserts, because we love your desserts and it was my daughters 18th birthday so an excuse for a candle, but to be honest, we couldn't wait to get out of there. I go into this detail as I know the PSC is a great restaurant with a great atmosphere usually, and I'm assuming you want to know exactly what wasn't working. I think the waitress was also a little over-stretched/maybe fairly new, but she was lovely, just a bit overwhelmed! It's not easy being a waitress, so no complaints there, just overall, what was supposed to be a lovely celebratory evening, ended up as a less than stellar experience!
We had a 5:15 reservation and it was pretty quiet. Our order was taken quite quickly but there was a pretty big lag as they started getting busy right after that. Make sure to tell them you are trying to make a reservation. Food was yummy. Great comfort food. Wish we didn't feel rushed to get out of there. Otherwise, everyone enjoyed their meal.
