Presidio Social Club Ratings and Reviews
Fair experience at best - I would say poor but was happily celebrating my birthday with my family, soy rating actually benefited from that. Our waiter was rude from start to finish and I’ve never felt more pressure to have our table turned. We weren’t an inexpensive group - 6 people who all ordered drinks, entrees, dessert, as well as an appetizer and a tea. Our bill was incorrect and instead of apologizing the waiter visually checked our table to be sure we in fact didn’t receive what he listed in our bill before he walked away to correct it. Very rude, classless and a disappointing experience. The food was sub par as well - a real let down and we will not be returning.
We went there for a celebratory New Years day brunch with the family. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff were great. However, the brunch menu was very limited (no pancakes or waffles to the disappointment of my kids). The items we ordered were underwhelming, bland, not warm enough and in case of the bacon, not edible.
Booked a reservation here for New Years Eve about three weeks prior based on positive reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations. We left disappointed, to say the least. We were seated right away but our server took quite some time to come over to our table and take our order. Mind you, our reservation was for 9:45pm so the restaurant was less than packed. The appetizers were "eh" at best. Both my boyfriend and his friend ordered the prime rib, one was medium rare and the other was medium. The medium rare steak looked like it had BARELY touched the grill and the medium steak was way undercooked as well. Sent both back to the kitchen to be cooked a little longer. The medium rare steak was now medium and the medium steak looked well done. Going to chalk this up to the fact that it was New Years and maybe the kitchen/staff was just off, but definitely not a great first impression.
We have eaten at the Presidio Social Club several times over the years. This last visit topped them all for the memorable food. A sharable special crisp-skinned tender herbed roast pork with salsa verde over polenta was among the best pork dishes we have ever had. The Manhattan and Old Fashioned were at once traditional and fresh. We paired the pork with braised greens in coconut milk, gentle and subtle, and with crunchy bruschetta with soft cheesy eggplant and lemon topping. Dessert was a pear-apple strudel with bay laurel ice cream. As always, the ambiance was cozy and lively, the wait staff were amusing and attentive. Bravo PSC.
I indicated in my reservation that we were celebrating a special birthday, but there was no acknowledgement of this with the staff. We had to ask about the specials and we weren't asked if we wanted another glass of wine after we finished our first. We weren't offered dessert. All in all, the service was just average -- we got our food and it was good but didn't really feel welcomed or taken care of.
It's so disappointing when you've had a couple really excellent experiences at a place but then there's a real bomb of a visit. That's unfortunately what we had at PSC this time. Our two other visits we booked through Open Table placed us in the very nice main room, where the energy and vibe of the restaurant is quite charming. This time though we were first shown a table in the plastic covered patio and then the overflow side party room. Neither option is nearly as nice as the main room. We opted for the party room over the patio, since it was a winter night, but I just couldn't get past the drop off in atmosphere over the main room. Our server did his absolute best to make up for things but by then the mood was shot.
I wish PSC would maybe only accept reservations for the main room and save the patio & party rooms for walk ins? If you do go, I'd recommend choosing the bar seating in the main room over a table in the overflow sections.
So enjoy this restaurant!
Wonderful menu with both creative and
comfort food selections! The wait staff is
pleasant and friendly ( of special note, Mario,
on my last visit). He made a fabulous wine recommendation and accommodated a special dessert request of affagato !
All my dining experiences here this past year have been most enjoyable; and I will be ringing in 2018 at Presidio Social Club.
Waiter was not surprised when we said that he had included two glasses of wine on our check, that we did not order.
"Oh, I see you noticed the two extra glasses of wine"
He tried to slip it by us. very dishonest !!
Wine cork in one of our glasses of wine.
We live in the Presidio, and the Presidio Social Club is our first choice for a casual meal that will be nonetheless interesting and well-prepared. A friendly low-key place, no pretentious silliness such as is so wearisomely common in boomtown SF. Prices are within reach, staff is well-trained and affable.
Our evening was a winner! We started a birthday dinner with special cocktails, freshly made bread and a succulent oyster plate. The special entrée was as a good as always, service was superb and had a marvelous wine.
The ambiance of the place made us happy and very romantic.
Thank you for a comforting experience and well -crafted food!
Excellent service and excellent food. The oysters on the half shell were some of the best we’ve ever had—so fresh! The spare ribs were wonderful. My husband is still raving about them. The ahi was amazing. Our server was personable, efficient, and warm. We will be back and have already recommended PSC to our friends and kids.
We went on a Wednesday afternoon, it was empty, but we were 3 moms with 4 kids, and the servers avoided us like the plague. They didn’t give us plates even though we asked two times, so my friend stood up and took it off the counter. I used to come here as a single person with friends (no kids) and never experienced terrible service like this. Lucky for them their food is delicious, but their hospitality was pretty horrendous. Especially considering how well behaved these kids were being.
This was my first time to the restaurant. Girlfriends and I were having a Holiday celebration. We shared the Beignets and they were lovely. Two of us had the Huevos Rotos and it was one of the best egg dishes we have ever had. The Aperol spritzers complemented the meal. I highly recommend coming here... Cannot wait to go back.
