Preserved Restaurant, owned and operated by James Beard Award nominee Chef Brian Whittington, serves authentic, locally-sourced, ingredient-driven southern cuisine, giving homage to the history of Lincolnville.
We went to this restaurant for Father's day ! The food was delicious and our waiter , Justin , was excellent. We were sitting outside and it was very pleasant until the mosquitoes started attacking us! They gave us some insect repellent wipes which worked well but were oily ! It would have been great if they have some other way to keep those mosquitoes away !!
Meal was excellent but it took 25 minutes to have our drink order taken. Our server was very rushed and forgetful. The food was wonderful but waiting 1 hour to get food is unacceptable. I will go back but will definitely NOT have the same server.
Justin provided excellent service and recommendations o. Wine choi8and entree.
If you are looking for gourmet southern cuisine in a delightfully restored turn of the century home, you must try The Preserved! We chose to dine on the front porch and enjoyed exceptional service. The appetizers we tried were amazing and dinner presentation was truly culinary magic. I give it top marks. Also nice to have parking right there, unusual for St Augustine!! We’ll be back soon.
My husband and I tried to have brunch here last year and were not aware that walk-ins are almost unheard of because of the popularity of this place. So this year I was prepared and made a reservation a week in advance, and it was so worth it! The food was exactly what we envisioned and were craving. Biscuits and gravy for the win! And the smoked chicken hash was stellar. May have to try dinner here next time.
We had Sunday Brunch at Preserved. Our first impression is that the restaurant is a little hard to find. We walked from downtown St Augustine. There are no large signs from the direction we walked, but you could see the hostess stand and a line waiting to check in. We were seated on the covered porch. Under the porch with the fans, it was comfortable even though it was hot in the direct sun. The food was excellent. I had the daily quiche & my wife ordered the steak and eggs. Each were very good. The prices were surprisingly low for how good the food was, and how nice the restaurant was. Overall it was an excellent experience and a great value for the money.
Great food and outstanding service! Wine list was excellent as well.
The food, ambience and overall experience was top notch. It was my birthday, so upon arrival they asked if I would like a glass of sparkling white wine or creme brulee, I went for the creme brulee!! So good!!!
It was very early (5:30 pm), so we were simply having a very light dinner prior to a social event.
White wine to start - after all, it's 85 degrees in Florida!
Tomato soup for Beth and oysters for me (David) just perfect to start.
App sized mussels for Beth and dinner sized of the same for me / we shared my pomme frite.
Table for two by a window.
We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable, relaxed early evening; spreading the experience over about 75 minutes. Service was spectacular.
This is one of those perfect go-to restaurants where everything always comes together wonderfully.
Thank you to the staff for being awesome!
Probably the top dining destination in St. Augustine. Food was top notch, although it's still not possible to get a pork chop cooked to a proper temp, and I mean pink. Escargot was tasty and shrimp and grits were prepared properly with soft grits and slightly undercooked shrimp. The wine list has excellent depth and WBG glass selection is the best in town. Som, Christophe knows his stuff.
Our table on the porch was pleasant and the service was professional. A little spendy for frequent dining but can't miss for a special occasion meal. We will definitely be back.
We travel to St Augustine many times a year always looking for another dining experience
We had reservations at 7 pm and we’re seated immediately the wait staff were all pleasant and attentive
We started with the oysters which were excellent well presented with good texture and flavor
Our entrees were shrimp and grits and the other was the duck Brest
We were both disappointed
Sadly with so many options in the area we would agreed that we would not come back
The charcuterie board was delicious, as always. With only 2 sharing it, it is very filling. We also got the the tomato tartar, since I saw that is was rated as one of the best appetizers in Florida by Southern Living. I was happy about that, because this is one of our favorite restaurants. I agreed with their rating because the Tomato tartar was very tasty as well. We had a bottle of wine that we enjoyed with our appetizer course and went straight to dessert and coffee(which was our plan, since we have eaten at this restaurant quite a few times).
I was a little disappointed in the banana cream dessert. I thought that I was getting pie and, although it was tasty, it was not what I expected. I have to say this was my first disappointment at this restaurant. I also thought the dessert prices were a bit high at $11.
My family of 5 really enjoyed our meal. The tomato tartare app, followed by duck, short rib, grouper, and scallop entrees. All equally delicious. We were blown away.
From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a friendly, experienced staff, delicious aromas and a relaxed atmosphere. The meal was superb and is now our favorite restaurant. It was a perfect way to celebrate our 38th anniversary but is a treat for any given day. Wonderful!
Always a pleasure to be at Preserved. One of (if not best) restaurants in St Augustine. Outstanding food.
Beautiful setting in a restored old Victorian house with an interesting if shady history. There was dining inside and out, but we chose to be inside. The walls had sound damping treatments, so even though the room was small and tables close, it was if we were by ourselves. We had a great table against the wall. Our server was friendly, charismatic, and knowledgeable. We shared a salad with absolutely dirt fresh and flavorful ingredients. We both chose the braised short ribs for our entree, and it was probably as good as I have had of that dish. Good wine list, with pretty broad geographic coverage: more European than New World, perhaps. Deserts were absolutely wonderful. My companion had the lemon tart, while I had the deconstructed banana cream pie.
My only complaint would have been the length of time between courses. That might have been driven by the fact that we chose a slow cooked main course. We also waited a bit for our check, but this was a minor issue. Everything else about Preserved was outstanding. Enthusiastically recommended.
So worth it! I can’t wait to visit it again. Love the atmosphere and the food is top notch.
We are visiting the US from the UK and we have been here for almost four weeks. We've travelled extensively on this trip and the food at Preserved was by far our best meal. We loved it so much on Sunday that we booked again to go back when they re-open on Wednesday.
Delicious food and lovely ambiance. We sat outside and it rained but the waiststaff were attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed our visit and will be back.
While the food tasted great, the “local” catch of the day from 500 miles away, and the “local” pork from approximately the same distance created a degree of doubt about this establishment’s commitment to local food.
My doubts were further confirmed when I looked into one of the partners Black Hog Farm, who is no longer growing any produce or meats, and was featured in an expose article, aptly titled, “Farm to Fable”; chronicling the exploitation of the marketing tactic of local dining experiences, while still receiving the vast majority of their supply chain through Sysco, US Foods and Cheney Bros.
There is definitely space for a high-end dining experience in St Augustine that’s truly sourcing sustainable, seasonal local foods. This is especially true for fish and seafood - there’s absolutely no reason to import any seafood from that great a distance with the plethora of available items available during year round.
While the food was cooked well, presented beautifully and tasted great, the experience was clouded with doubt over the misrepresentation.
Service and food were both excellent!!!
As a vegetarian, I enjoyed Preserved's brunch menu very much! My omelette was fluffy and flavorful and the salad accompaniment was perfect. It's a beautiful space with great service, lots of charm, and according to everyone else at the table - the world's greatest roasted oysters. If you're local or if you're visiting, be sure to put Preserved on the list, and sit outside if you can!
I had reservations for 4 people at 11:30 that I booked about a week in advance. When we arrived, the hostess was on the wrong date and told me I had no reservation which was embarrassing. We also arrived approximately 50 minutes early and were forced to wait the entire time for our 11:30 reservation even though it appeared there were tables available the entire time. While the food was good, the portions were a little small for the price. We were left with the impression that, while the restaurant and atmosphere were nice and the presentation and quality of the food was good, the restaurant and staff are trying to be more than they are. We didn't receive an apology for the reservation mix up and it seems like they could have been more accommodating with regard to our early arrival.
We made a reservation for brunch very last minute. Walked from our hotel. Were seated on porch and were afraid of the heat, but assured the fans would keep us cool - they did. All service was great, but Sam was exceptional. I happened to say “happy birthday “ to my husband, and Sam overheard. He delivered a dessert of amazing creme brûlée with a candle after our brunch gratis. And the food was superb. Hubby had best eggs Benedict in ages. I had incredible French toast which was really dense banana bread with pecans & fresh fruits- rich & to die for!
Wonderful birthday brunch. Delicious scones and perfectly prepared eggs. Would return when in town again!
As locals Preserved is one of our favorite spots. The food is consistently good and the chef takes pride in sourcing the freshest ingredients. My husband is a chef and Preserved is one of his favorite places to eat, which says a lot since chefs are the pickiest critics. We live in Ponte Vedra and it is well worth the 30 minute drive.
Great food, good service but quite loud; enjoyed the side dishes and everything came out hot (cold food is a pet peeve).
Amazing atmosphere, terrific service and amazing food! Top notch!,
We celebrated our granddaughter’s 30th birthday and had a great time. We opted for porch seating and that proved uncomfortably warm. But, the food and service more than made up for the warm conditions. We always enjoy dining at Preserved.
Great food. Lighting in the patio area was a little minimal. Had to e reading the menu during later supper hours.
Wonderful evening with great service in a beautiful space. The only problem was that the medium pork chop was raw near the bone. Everything else was perfect!
Everything was good except the bread. Tasted like Walmart. A good southern bread should be a signature item that people rave about.
This was the best meal we had while visiting St. Augustine. The service was slow at first but our Server apologized for it taking him a bit to get to us and everything was great after. We sat outside in the courtyard and the weather was perfect. We waited until 8:00 for reservations and other than running out of banana cream pie we would pick that time every time.
The food is very good and our waiter was A+ in recommending dishes, in service and in friendliness. The hostess was not welcoming and somewhat dour in manner. We sat on the porch which was lovely except for a few loud cars but that is to be expected. All in all, a delightful evening.
No ambiance, food ok nothing to write home about, wine selection ok but not great, the noise level high not conducive to conversation. If you just want to eat ok but if you're looking for a dining experience not the place. We've dined all over the world an maybe we've become to hard to please but if you bill yourselves as a five star restaurant you should deliver, we drove up from Tampa just to dine at preserved and wish we had not wasted the time and money
What a fabulous way to commemorate a special occasion. Every aspect of our dining experience was well thought out and meaningful. I will HIGHLY recommend Preserved to anyone in the area. Thank you all for such an amazing meal!
Just perfect !
Absolutely fabulous food, service, and setting. My new favorite restaurant in northeast Florida.
Everything was perfect as always. The staff was so wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and on top of their game!! Thank you!
We are traveling and found Preserve from the James Beard awards. They did not disappoint. I had the shrimp and grits which were fabulous. My spouse had the duck, perfectly done. Our waitress really knew her wine and made great suggestions to complement our meal. We finished off with the coconut cream pie. Don’t skip dessert. The pastry chefs options put our meal over the top. If only we lived closer.
