We were pleased with our first experience at Prelude, enjoying dinner before a show. Dinner was not rushed, but did take 90 minutes at their pace, so be warned. Service was excellent, we enjoyed our dishes, but the cake we both had for dessert was too large -- we could not finish the portion served (and we are both sweet fans!).
Our experience at Prelude was yummy, delightful and delectable. I ordered New York steak. I never order steak out but I trusted Prelude. It was done perfectly. The Chocolate Moose was perfect consistency and with the light dough cinnamon/sugar spears made for a substantial dessert . The lighting was perfect; easy to see and yet a soft glow. The service was excellent. The 'tables for two' are next to each other inviting easy going conversation with others.
First courses wee very good. My husband's entree of steak was also very good and cooked to perfection. My entree of cod was tasteless. I didn't finish it. Very disappointing. On the other hand, this is the perfect place to dine before attending a performance at Green Music Center and service was friendly and very competent. Nice ambience, ample parking.
This restaurant is open during GreenMusic Center performances and the reason we chose it. It’s a lovely restaurant with a fixed price menu. The servers are students and very sweet. A manager circulates the restaurant to make sure diners are attended otherwise I think the service would be a little haphazard. My husband’s meal was well prepared and delicious. I ordered filet mignon. I overheard the gentleman next to me complain that his medium rare filet was well done. When my medium rare filet arrived well done I sent it back. At that point two women at the table on the other side of us said their medium rare had arrived well done also. I promptly received a new plate and the meat was pink in the middle. However, the meet was dry and tasteless. My guess is the meat was cooked ahead of time and put on the grill as the orders came in. I will give the restaurant another try in hopes my entree will be better next time. The appetizer ,dessert and wine were all very good.
Nice atmosphere. Very convenient to dine there before a performance at the Green Center as it is adjacent to the theatre. Staff appear to be students at Sonoma State. Though inexperienced they are very nice and eager to be helpful. I had the miso-glazed halibut - the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked but I didn't care for the sweet glaze with the halibut. One of my companions had the lamb shank and loved it. My other companion had the filet, which arrived well done even though she had ordered medium. She enjoyed it anyway but worth noting that if you want your steak done medium perhaps you should order it rare. Two of us had the warm sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. That was superb. Two course meal with a glass of wine came to about $63 with tax and tip.
The venue is exceptional in its appearance but the food was inconsistent. We were a party of six and when our meal arrived the mashed potatoes were luke warm at best. It was a little slow on the service level and the taste of my soup was bland; my lamb shank was good but could have been more seasoned.
I toured this restaurant while it was still under construction. I still think it is a beautiful dining area and I still think the food for what it is is too pricey. For the prix fixe meal adding the third item means the dessert is $10.00. The lemon curd cake I had was not worth $10.00. The halibut and chow fun noodles accoutrements were too bland. Prelude is really the only option for dining if you are attending a concert at the Green Music Center. Beware therefore, it is always full and requires a reservation far in advance.
Prelude is a great location for dinner before the shows at Weill Hall (Green Music Center @ SSU). The food is very good and fresh; however with limited menu. They are full most nights and the service was very slow due to the kitchen being backed-up. The staff are all very gracious, but our dinner was not served until 15 min. before show time so we were not able to really enjoy it.
Enjoyed dinner before a concert. Setting is lovely and cosy; fireplace is warm and inviting. Menu is prix fixe which allows them to focus. Enjoyed all three courses; only mild complaint was with the cheese course at the end - one of the cheeses was too hard and dry, and couldn't even cut it with a knife.
Servers are obviously learning, so it's excusable to forget the spoons and forks at dessert.

As always the meal was absolutely fantastic as was the service, couldn’t be better from our student server.

The staff is always friendly, the restaurant is very clean bright and inviting, do try it before or after a concert sometime you will like it.

I always go to Prelude restaurant after a concert and sometimes before, the food is incredible and changes seasonally. Tonight I am having wild mushroom stew and roasted sea bass along with a Carol Shelton Wild Thing, 2013 Old vine, Mendocino Zinfandel, followed by a double espresso☕️ I look forward to a meal here in 2-weeks with Lee , Dannie & Alana! Date night with husband was for first performance of Santa Rosa Symphony's 2017-2018 season and dinner after in attached lovely restaurant. The elegant room with large gas fireplace was not crowded, so noise level was perfect for conversation. Menu was prix fixe. With the $39 dinner, we chose appetizer plus entree. Add one cocktail and two glasses of wine and the total bill was over $100--by no means inexpensive. I had the lamb medallions; husband had the pistachio encrusted salmon. Food quality, innovation and presentation were in the higher end of our experience. The young student wait staff of the university learning the hospitality field could not be nicer or more accommodating. For us this counts as a local, special occasion, occasional treat.
After significantly improving food quality and service over the past several months, based on our visit prior to open night the restaurant has taken a few steps backwards. The crab salad appetizer tasted and smelled almost rancid. The salmon dish was quite large but overcooked and rather tasteless. The steak dish, although requested to be done medium /medium rare, arrived almost well done. And the quality of the beef was no so good. Service wise the waitress was very pleasant, but I thought it rather poor service that we had to request that the salad dressing and bread and butter be removed when desert was served. Sorry - we've had similar dishes at Prelude in the past and they were excellent. Hope things can be improved.
Prelude was good. The food was good, and good portions almost too much food. But the price was on the high side. The service is just okay. It was bothersome that the server did not know anything about the show we were there to attend. There was no warning from her, seemed like the manager was the only one who knew what was going on. Server was unfamiliar with the food and wine lists, considering the cost of the restaurant the overall experience left us slightly disappointed. I would probably only eat there again if I was planning on attending a show at the venue.
We were a little disappointed in our meal as compared to last year when everything was superb. It seemed to be a combination of new wait staff and a kitchen that was a lite bit off from our previous experience. For the amount of the bill the expectation is for a flawless experience which sadly this was not.
We had never been to Prelude before & thought it would be fun before the concert. We had inside tickets & decided to call this a "date night". When we got there, the restaurant was about half full. We were waited on promptly, wine came right away, as did our first course. My husband's first course was not quite warm enough, but he went with it. Our waitress never returned & we poured our own wine from that point on. Our entrees were brought by a different server. Mine was delicious, but again my husband's was cold. From then on, we never saw a wait person again. The show was at 7:30 & finally by 7:15, I just asked a waiter who was hurrying by if we could get our dessert & our bill as the show was about to start. Someone else brought our dessert, but no bill. My husband finally caught our waitress's attention (1st time we had seen her since placing our order) & again asked for the bill. Nothing happened. Finally, I got up & went to the restroom & my husband said he had to ask again. I did not return to the restaurant & my husband came running up literally a minute or two before the show. Our reservation had been for 5:45. Nearly two hours for our meal when they are a restaurant that caters to show patrons! The food was okay, but would not highly recommend for the price & definitely not at all for service. Proceed with caution.............
Food portions were small, no depth of flavor - quite ordinary. Service was indifferent, impersonal - no eye contact, all statements by server and management felt like they came from a script, patronizing and insincere. Inconsistent and poor timing when main course was served, one person at our table was served 15-20 minutes after the rest of us. Server had very poor knowlege of menu and ingredients, absurd delays on follow through. This is our 4th attempt to enjoy a meal at Prelude, and the 4fh time we regretted going there. None of the 4 of us Will return, and we all strongly do not recommend this restaurant.
Great restaurant at Green Center! We visited two nights in a row. One for drinks and one for dinner. Outside of overbooked fish (halibut) everything was delicious. Flourless chocolate cake was amazing and the service was outstanding! Zac was our waiter. Nice spot and everyone around us was loving their food. Great patio for drinks before show as well!
Very nice venue, clean, GREAT service.... BUT that being said, I think it's VERY OVER-PRICED for what you are receiving. I've dined at some elegant establishments that have much more extensive menus and charge considerably less with excellent wait staff.
We had a pleasant experience and it was so convenient since we were there for a concert, but it will definitely be a one time occurrence. No a place to take children.
