Prato - Winter Park Ratings and Reviews
This was my 6th visit to Prato. I was celebrating my 1 year wedding anniversary. I made a reservation and requested a table for 2 NOT IN THE FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT. Walk in, tell them my name... they drag us over to the table 2 feet from the front door. I ask “you don’t have a table for 2 near the back?”. She says “No, those are reserved”. What? Isn’t that what a reservation is? Her response made no sense. After we were seated the waiter upsold me on my cocktail, but when it came out it was missing the items. I was cool with him and he made it right. We ordered several dishes to share as we’ve done in the past. On of the pasta dishes the waiter recommended was never served. Looking at the check we were billed for it even though it never arrived at the table. I told the waiter, he seemed astonished that we didn’t get it. I told him that it was fine but please remove it from the check.
We spent $150 on dinner for 2 and just felt like we weren’t treated in the way we’d expect in a restaurant like this. I guess we’ll go back at some point, but it’s not going to be soon.
The food at Prato is always a delight: the duck confit is spectacular, the specialty crostini is intriguing, the calamari and meatballs are staples. The service is efficient and thoughtful. But best of all for this particular night — kudos to the kind hostess who held our table for is when we got stuck on I4 and were late for our 5:30 reservation. The place was hopping, with a line out the door, when we arrived, but we were taken straight to our table and were seated. It was such a relief to be treated so kindly, and we really appreciated this action from Prato.
I love everything about this restaurant and constantly go back there. It’s my favorite. I recently went on a Friday night (1/5/17) during the cold front so it was extra busy with no one wanting to leave because of the cold. This was causing reservations to get backed up and I could see that everyone was taking it out on the hostesses even though there was nothing they could do about it. Nonetheless, the hostesses kept their cool, stayed professional the whole time, and kept busting their butts to make sure everyone was happy. As a former waiter I felt so bad for them, but they were incredibly impressive to watch. I couldn’t believe they didn’t lose it on people. So if the owner or managers are reading this, give your hostesses a bonus or something because you don’t want to lose them!
Food great as always but so noisy we could not hear one another speak. We were in front corner right under a speaker. We couldn’t even hear server as she explained the specials/menu. Slow service, server did not bring us wine when we ordered it and we had to ask a second time. Prato always wonderful food but noise is an issue.
Sadly Prato didn’t deliver this visit. Disappointed.
This used to be in our top 5 restaurants locally.
Service was good when we could find her.
Ordered the widow maker pizza and ordered an extra egg on top. When it was delivered , mentioned to our server that I only saw 1 egg on the pizza, she insisted there was 2, it was hidden under the arugula. NOT..only 1. It was delish so we let it go.
She disappeared for at least 10-15 minutes, never mentioned our anniversary until my husband who was tired of waiting for the check went outside to wait for me to pay the bill, our server brought a glass jar of something they called tiramisu for our anniversary.
While waiting I noticed the server resetting the table next to me holding all the silverware in her hands on the ends that go into the guests mouth. Just nasty and unsanitary. I expect more from Prato, unexceptable.
Prato is a regular stop for us when in Winter Park. We made reservations to meet our daughter and her boyfriend as they moved to the area. The Prato hostess was wonderful and understanding when we called to say we were stuck in stand-still traffic on I4 and we would be 20 min late. The remainder of our group arrived on time. They ordered apps and drinks while they waited for us. The waitress was very friendly and provided menus but we waited a while before the apps arrived and of course, they came with our lunch. There were plenty of empty tables but she cheerfully rushed our plates along including taking one of our groups plate which was still half full. No offer for a doggie bag but she offered a take home bag for my one slice of pizza?
We ordered Moscow Mules with house vodka. The bill included special vodka. When we asked her, she hesitated and said " Let's see... Oh yes. That is the house Vodka." $8 for the mule. Additional $3 for house vodka. I have never been billed for a house cocktail on 2 line items.
All in all, we love this place and we chalked it up to lunch during Christmas week. We will return but expect more attentive service as in the past.
Waiter would not seat us away from the noisy standing patrons at bar. Would not even consider moving us. WAY too noisy. Could not talk at all. Hurried service. Wine was bad. cheap during happy hour, but think the bottle had been opened for weeks. I changed wine, but both glasses were bad. Always have liked the food, but now will reconsider going again. Cannot take the noise. Don't know why you allow drinkers to stand around and virtually harass the diners, who are spending quite a bit of time and money there. You are losing your reputation. There are many other good restaurants in the area that are more accommodating and more affordable.
I was able to make reservation for when they opened at 11:30 so had a table right away. Zach was our server and did a great job, suggested the meatballs since this was our first time. Very good, kind of small for price but flavor more than made up for it. The lunch menu is smaller so the spaghetti wasn't available. Had the butternut ravioli, oh yum, tried the rigatoni as well, that was different but still good. atmosphere was great and we were lucky to sit by the front doors that they opened, so if you don't get a seat outside maybe lucky to get one by front doors. Everyone was friendly so very inviting place to go to. they do offer dessert, but we went next door to Kilwins and had some ice cream, so can't really comment on their dessert. Will definitely go back.
I love Prato, we go whenever we are in Winter Park. I love their creative menu. On our last visit, we had great apps ( meatballs are delicious) and dinner. Both my friend and I had the garlic past ( I can’t remember the name of the pasta). Obviously it was homemade. We both thought the pasta was a bit over cooked because it was a bit gummy and not firm like we prefer. Our other friend had the butternut squash ravioli and raved about them. When it came time for Dessert, the Dessert that I picked, was not available. Anyway just because we were disappointed in our past dish, it won’t deter us from returning
I dine at Prato frequently, and always enjoy the creative, hand-crafted cuisine. It’s especially nice to be able to order small portions of some of the entrées. Desserts are never too large, or too sweet. Service can be spotty, and it can be extremely noisy, even when dining outside. Fun, energetic atmosphere. Recommend reservations for most evenings.
