We had lunch at Praline, and it seemed as if the chef was having an “off” day. One in our party ordered the Frittata of the day, but when it was delivered, it was actually a frittata with the ingredients of the omelet of the day. We sent it back to get the right item. Another in our group ordered the veggie sandwich, which was delivered without one ingredient––Swiss cheese. We sent that back to get the right sandwich. Two out of three meals incorrect. Not a good situation. We have been to Praline a number of times, but we will reconsider returning.
The name Bistro usually refers to some quick French dinning, inexpensive, really good and very typical of an every day dinning or/also typical of a Region.
On a Sarturday evening, there was no warm, pleasant atmosphere. To the contrary, it was very cold atmosphere, the restaurant was basically empty. The music from very old French songs was appreciated.
The service was good. However, everyone who came by seems to be really timid or did not understand French nor English!
My sea food crepe with shrimp, lobster and fish, had one very very small piece of shrimp, the lobster appeared to be fake, more fish, with the crepe not baked enough.
My husband enjoyed the chicken pot pie the only dish under the entrees’s menu that was less than $28.
We did not have any more room for the pastries which we understand are good.
I used to go to Praline frequently, and always loved the food. Haven't been in four or five years, but I suggested this to a business colleague and was disappointed. The Crepes were very dry and the service was slow. I probably won't suggest this for business lunches in the future.
Lovely lunch; sat on the pretty flower-bedecked terrace. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and especially the AMAZING pastry dessert that we shared. Check out the bakery display on the ground level; it's like looking at little jewels. Beautifully presented and memorably tasty treats!
Delicious food changes with seasons. Watermelon-beet soup was on the menu and I was brought a sample which determined my ordering it. It was delicious. Their onion soup is also very good. There is always a variety of sandwiches and entrees so you can choose from a light snack to a full meal. The servers are pleasant and knowledgeable. There is a choice (when weather is appropriate) of eating inside or on a lovely little patio.
Definitely will return to try some of the other items on the menu.
I took my two step granddaughters, aged 11 and 20 to dinner. The setting on the terrace was very pleasant but lighting was very dim after the sun went down. The 11 year-old ordered chicken pot pie and said it was delicious. The 20 year-old ordered a salad with shrimp added, and I ordered the grilled vegetable salad and pate de campagne. Since the salads were listed separately from appetizers and sides, we expected them to be adequate for a meal. However, while both were delicious, the portions were very modest (the salad + shrimp) to ridiculous (grilled vegetables). I should point out that I find the supersized portions offered by less elegant restaurants disgusting, but these portions were inadequate even by my standards. The grilled vegetables salad consisted of five thin slices of vegetables rolled up with a very nice dressing. It should have been listed as an appetizer. When I pointed out to the waitress that it was much smaller than I had expected, she retorted, "It's not my fault." Of course not. I was not blaming her. Her job is to accommodate customers, so I asked her to please pass the message on to the chef. Of course, if she knew how small the portions were, she could have warned me and helped me avoid the disappointment.
I had the swordfish and it was terrific. The seafood stew (with wine) was very salty and the two who ordered it did not finish it for that reason. Moreover, ironically, it was a rather paltry serving of food. But the lamb dish was great and the restaurant otherwise is worth patronizing. Desserts were good but for some reason rather miniscule. I still like the restaurant and will return with the expectation that these two matters are corrected.
Praline is a great weekend brunch spot, particularly if you're in that area or out at Glen Echo Park. We went with three families after a puppet show there, and they made us feel comfortable by giving us a semi-private room so the kids could be themselves. The service was great, and the food did not disappoint. Great coffees and breakfast items. Also, you must visit the bakery downstairs for dessert on site or to go.
This is a lovely bistro and bakery. It is in a very conventional setting--a small shopping center--but serves exceptionally good food and retains a very neighborhood feel. The bakery is outstanding but the bistro is really a pleasure--low key but lively. Very easy place to meet up if you live in Bethesda and don't want the noise and hassle of downtown Bethesda, which is borderline unbearable these days. And you can run a few errands after the meal--good Safeway, drugstore, and clothing shop in the complex.
I went to Praline for dinner with five friends - one of whom was celebrating a birthday. A pleasant summer evening, we sat outside on the balcony and were eventually able to negotiate their opening an umbrella to shield us from the sun, even though there was some wind.
We ate a variety of dishes, from the soft shell crab special through chicken, fish and salade nicoise. Every one was satisfied, though no one was "over the moon" with their selections. Portion sizes were good on entrees, small on desserts - which surprised me since it is a patisserie. Nothing special was offered for the birthday. However, our server was attentive and very sweet.
I normally don't submit reviews but this was amazing. My first time at this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Father's Day was not super busy though all the pastries/croissants were sold out by the time the restaurant opened. However, the food was so good and the french bread served at the table made up for the lack of croissants. My dad who has been more adventurous of late tried both a savory and a sweet crepe for dessert. The salads served on the side were light and the dressing amazing. The plates were large and my eggs benedict came with both salad and potatoes. Great find and fun place.
We've eaten here before but, for whatever reason, never outdoors. Maybe we only came in winter? The patio is delightful! The food as always was excellent - salads are interesting, tasty and generous. We had salmon paillard and scallops with mushroom risotto - seriously yummy. The service was leisurely, which is not a problem if you anticipate such a pace. The patio is also, as you'd expect, quieter than indoors. Many plants and decor items disguise the shopping-center view.
I have eaten at Praline's countless times. The food and service is always excellent, the staff is friendly, and it is elegant but comfortable. In the summer, their rooftop terrace is a real treat. Praline is in a small mall, but customers are never aware of that once they are inside or on the terrace. And the plus is that there is always plenty of free parking!
No problem finding a parking space and the restaurant being open during the afternoon was well appreciated!
I loved seating outside on the lovely patio. Food was great (I had the escargots as an appetizer the the seafood risotto).
Don't miss the bakery downstairs with its delicious pastries and cookies.

Praline is a neighborhood gem in an unlikely setting - that is, a small shopping mall. However, this does provideplentiful free parking! And their outdoor space - a terrace - is artfully lush because of potted plants and raised flower beds. We have been going there for both lunch and dinner for years, and the chefs have never disappointed. This is a great place for a quiet, peaceful and memorable meal. And the bakery downstairs is a great place for coffee and a delicious pastry any time!
