Prairie Grass Café
On a Sunday evening at 6:30 it was crowded and very noisy. But within an hour many diners were done, the noise level went down and we had a wonderful time eating, & talking.
They were willing to accommodate changes, & were sensitive to food issues. The whitefish was delicious, as was the ahi tuna, which was served cold, with cold vegetables. A house made mango ice cream was very good.
This was my first visit to Prairie Grass Cafe. The menu was nicely varied. Our party of four had Tilapia, Crispy Chicken and the Hamburger (without the bun). Rave reviews on all three meals. The burgers are definitely worth going back for.
Everyone's very nice and accommodating. Chef Sarah is awesome 😊
We always have a great meal and excellent service! The food is fresh and there are always delicious new specials to try. Last night we invited out of town friends to dinner and they raved about their meals and everything about the restaurant. Continues to be one of our go-to favorites!!
Pricey for amount received
Poor salad selection as only thee items
Consistent meal every time I go.
They were great and split everything [except the appetizer] in the Kitchen for us so we could have a "Europea" type experience. We shared an appetizer, then a fish course and then a meat course.
Not many restaurants do that! [Even if you ask them to.]
We miss the old menu. Also the food was not great.
Sent back tuna. Tasted funny
We had a large group. We were well treated and the food was great. Thank you.
My second visit (first was for a business dinner) and the first visit for my wife. It was Friday evening and busy, but quiet enough to talk without yelling at each other, which was nice. Food was good, although not avant-garde. I had the duck with a beet salad, my wife had panko coated halibut. Both enjoyable. Appetizers and dessert were shared, plenty for those not trying to expand their waist. Overall a pleasant end to a busy week.
Always love it there. Love the blue cheese burger.
A great dinner is always a guarantee for both adults and children!
The menu is very creative and the food quality and preparation are excellent. The drinks menu also has a lot of creativity. Our wait staff was very attentive. Very enjoyable.
Restaurant was a little noisy but not excessive. Very diverse menu with lots of variety. Service was attentive but not oppressive. Food was delicious and portions are huge!!! If you want a little quieter space ask for a table in the back room.
This was the first time two of the three of us ate here. This was a final get together before we snowbird south so we needed to linger at the table after lunch which we were able to do quite comfortably. Our glasses were kept full and were weren't hurried by a premature check.
Love love love your food. I only wish you were closer....we live in the city. The food quality is extraordinary!
and to finish off the evening....ahhh....Raspberry Pie!
Prairie Grass is a very good restaurant in a surprising location on Skokie Blvd. Once inside, it has a neighborhood ambience which is both relaxing and inviting. The food is of high quality and prepared well.
The food at Prairie Grass is always superlative. The corn fritters were magnificent. Everything here is wonderful--service, food, atmosphere. We just love coming here to eat as there is always something new and it is great!
Lunch service has gone downhill. Maybe they are short staffed but no one goes over specials, checks back. Lunch last week I sat at table for 15 minutes with no server while all kinds of employees just walked by and looked.
While the food and service were outstanding, the noise level was ridiculous. My husband and I couldn't even hear each other and we were seated at a two person table! Admittedly, there was a man at a large table who felt the need to yell as loudly as possible, but this isn't the first time I felt the restaurant was just too noisy to enjoy the meal. I wish the owners would put up some noise-absorbing materials. The rich wood is beautiful, but sound just bounces everywhere. I've considered bringing my in-laws to this restaurant for dinner, but have decided against it each time due to the noise level. They are elderly and wouldn't be able to hold a conversation due to the noise. I'm not elderly and even I had trouble communicating across a small table!
We had a wonderful experience celebrating our grandson's birthday. The waiter was fabulous and made the experience very special. I loved the pasta and everyone else enjoyed their meal except the duck. It was very tough and not up to par. We do look forward to coming back. Thanks for a nice birthday celebration.
Really great fresh food. Service is always terrific.
The restaurant is difficult to see from the road, but once found, there's plenty of parking. The decor is comfortably contemporary and the staff are friendly and professional. The menu has a large variety of options that are reasonably priced, but especially hungry customers will want to order side items. The one big disadvantage of this restaurant is that it is incredibly noisy! Open Table refers to this noise level as "energetic". Indeed, you will have to use lots of energy to speak loudly and crane forward to hear others at your table. Not really a suitable venue for meaningful conversation.
Love it!! A great neighborhood place. Consistently good!!
Meal was very fresh and good.
Waitstaff was very annoying and pushy.
Always a pleasure. A nice mix of starters, from light to more substantial. There is always a marvelous soup. Especially good are the vegetable cream soups such as mushroom and asparagus. Crispy chicken salad with excellent dressing is a favorite, and the Ahi tuna steak with salad is also very good. Flank steak and fish have also been great main courses, not too heavy. Along with the soups, desserts are high points. The blackberry cream pie was sensational--rich, perfect crust; too good to share, but we always find that sharing makes the most sense with a dessert this rich. Warm and friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. Very, very hard to beat this experience.
Excellent meal and excellent service
Wild salmon, corn fritters, beet salad all amazing
We have dined at Prairie Grass many times. Corn fritter appetizer was really good. Neither fish nor duck were served hot and both were dry. Both were send back and replaced with alternate main courses. No offer to take anything off the bill or of a dessert comp. All in all quite disappointing.
Food, as always was outstanding. Would like the noice level to be less and more gluten free options. The wait staff was outstanding - cheerful and helpful. Will return again.
Delicious and fun as always! Thank you!
Always delicious and beautiful presentation! Sarah and George are always on top of the best ingredients and the flavors are amazing. We love this place!!
Wonderful food! Superb service! White fish was amazing.. loved the beet salad.
Wednesday hamburger deal is the best. Just buy a beverage and the burger is half-price. Delicious with bleu cheese. It’s crowded but ...
Always excellent food and service....so friendly. Noise is always an issue; booths are the best bet for being able to hear your dinner mates!
This was a great place to have a nice lunch and some good conversation. The hostess, the server and the bus boy were all very friendly and accommodating. It's off a main drag, Skokie Highway, easy entry, easy exit.
We gathered for a birthday brunch and our food was fabulous. The noise level was too loud, which is a definite negative. When you cannot hear the person sitting next to you it is much too loud. When our food arrived it was auctioned off, rather than being placed properly. I will probably return, but consider other options first.
Just a very comfortable yet sophisticated varied menu.
One of my true favorites!
Chairs and tables in side dining room were extremely uncomfortable. Left a poor impression of what could have been a great dinner. Likewise, the noise levels do not make for quite conversation. We were there at dinner time but have been for brunch hours mostly. That is only.
An excellent lunch: egg salad sandwich; crispy chicken salad; #1 burger; and omelette of the day--all four choices were flavorful, nicely balanced, and attractive. Our guests were delighted with the attentive service. We shared raspberry cream pie slices, light, intensely flavored, with, as always, the perfect crust. The menu is diverse and there is always a special of the day as well as a soup, usually a velvety vegetable (asparagus is especially good). Usually crowded by 12.15-12.30, the room thins out by 1 or so, which is really the best time to come for lunch. This restaurant gets everything right--there is even plenty of parking. It is so popular because it serves great food in a friendly and efficient style. We have gone many times and look forward to our next visit.
Awesome food and service
