Prairie Grass Café
The food was terrific as usual. Service for ordering was a it slow but the fellow with the bread and butter was right on top of things. We are out of towers but try to get there whenever we return.
Only complaint was that the red wine was served very warm. Should be "springtime" cool.
Meal was good, crab cake appetizer was ridiculously small. (2 bites?) Pea shoot and apple salad was bland, but we enjoyed the brussel sprouts and the burger.
Wonderful as always. Sensational serving TEAM. From reception with a warm greeting to departure with a thank you and peppermint, it’s service done right. Food is fresh and delicious. Best burger you can get but every item I’ve ever had I love. But the cherry on the sundae is my favorite of all hosts, Juan. Far more than a sever, he welcomes you and treats you as a guest visiting his own home. See you all soon.
Always welcoming, with attentive service, perfect for special occasions or regular lunch, this is a go to choice. Plus, the desserts are the BEST, so worth it for a celebration even if the diners didn't leave room.
Always a pleasant experience. The chocolate chip cookie is certainly worth the 20 mins wait.
We had read a local newspaper article about how good this restaurant was, so we decided to try it on Saturday evening.
We were both very disappointed by the poor quality of the freshness of the food, and lack of any flavor.
My lady friend’s tuna steak was clearly past its date of freshness, so she sent the dinner back, and just ordered some shrimp cocktail. Those shrimp were close to out of date freshness.
My steak and cannoli beans were just Okay.... nothing stood out about this restaurant, other than the fine service of our waitress
For quality and price comparison, this restaurant is sub standard.
We felt like we had a "timed" dinner. The waitstaff was 'vigilant', walking back and forth closely to our table, to an excess, pouring the water and warming up the tea at a fast rate, visiting the table too many times. Didn't we order enough drinks and food to deserve good service, I wonder. It was clear they were in a hurry and we had to be too. Very unpleasant. Typically I previously thought this was a good restaurant, organic and all that, but its struggling like very other restaurant to keep up with costs. I ordered duck which just on first sight, it was clear it was terribly overcooked, maybe rewarmed after having been prepped for another dish, and one bit showed it was super dry. Not acceptable. The next dish was very good - but who wants to have to order two dishes at a restaurant to get it right, and I dont want to have to eat dry duck to support the business. Was my bday, so it made for a crappy celebration dinner.
Great experience, as always. This is becoming a real go-to restaurant for me. The only reason I don't go more is that is a bit far back from the road and I forget it's there sometimes- although, to be clear, it's hard to get a good table without a reservation. The menu is varied, I've now had much of what is on it, and it's all great. That said, I noticed they changed up the menu recently, leaving old favorites (like the skirt steak- best in town), but adding new choices. The duck, which is fantastic, is a great example. Perfect place for both a business lunch or a family meal. Great before the theater in Glencoe, or after a day at the Botanic Gardens. Be sure to try the bread, by the way, which is always excellent.
I have eaten at Prarie Grass Cafe 2 times in the last 2 months and have been impressed with the quality and taste of their food and the attention to perfectly timing their service.
Great friendly service, willing to accommodate any issues. Delicious Ravinia salad, Halibut entrees, tasty burger, then shared a piece of moist chocolate cake. One of my favorite suburban restaurants
I usually order an omelet for lunch because the restaurant does it so well. Mine was spinach, cheese and tomato. It was yummy. Also, it came with a wedge of lettuce which they were nice enough to substitute for the potatoes. The coffee is outstanding and the bread was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend Prairie Grass for their diverse menu, good food and prices that are not outrageous.
It was our usual girls lunch which turned out to be a surprise early birthday. The restaurant was pretty full but we could talk and hear each other comfortably. Our server was very accommodating and pleasant. Loved the shrimp and vegetable tempura and the Greek salad with the warm cheese and the home made ice cream with berries! We had a lovely time and will come back again soon.
We've been here several times. Food is great with interesting menu choices, good wine and beer selection. Service is excellent
Girls night out for a birthday dinner - had a great time and the dinner was excellent!
Attended with a group of 6. We enjoyed the dining room and the service. The food was overpriced and in a few cases mediocre. Example of the overpriced: $14 for a single, very small (3" diameter or less) crab cake. Example of the mediocre: Penne Pasta with meat sauce, which was very, very bland.
Always outstanding meal plus truly excellent service
Always a pleasure. Very satisfying starters, including tempura and the warm house bread. What a shame the guacamole is off the starter menu--it was wonderful and far superior to what we usually find elsewhere. Fish dishes are especially good, including the tilapia and the crab cake that is sometimes a daily special. Excellent pies, rich enough to share, such as the lemon chiffon pie recently. Salads are vibrant, soups a delight. Warm, friendly reception, attentive, alert service. Highly recommended. As to lunch, we like to go after 1 p.m. There is a lot of business as 12 and it feels a little loud and busy just then. After 1, however, it's just right for us. We prefer booths to tables.
I had a wonderful lunch meeting up with a friend. Food was very good and so was the service. We were seated in the back room where it was quieter and easier to talk to each other. Food choices were excellent.
Cobb salad was very bland.
We've been there for dinner a few times, and the food and service are always top-notch. I'm glad we tried it again. It's also a great place to go for weekend brunch.
Our family (including three young kids ages 7, 6, and 3) went to Sunday brunch for the first time. We loved the food and the ambiance and our waitress! The food was so good and the menu had the perfect mix to give you options and not overwhelm you! Try the Pecan Cinnamon Coffee Cake to start with! It was the best coffee cake we've had and didn't last long at all! We will certainly be back.
We always have delicious seasonal meals and great service at Prairie Grass.
Prairie Grass has a small but but good menu. Ranging from a burger to excellent fish. Do not pass up the Ravinia School salad.
The back room is a little claustrophobic. Especially if one is used to the main dining room.
Nate is the best server we’ve ever had. We always ask for one of his tables.
Always a great dining experience.
Our business lunch go to. Wonderful food. Get ready to be treated like YOU’RE the owner. Jose, you’re the BEST IN THE BUSINESS !!!!
The food was good, the service was excellent, but it was way overpriced as a package in my opinion.
We were disappointed on our last visit because our first two choices-both fish dishes were sold out by 7:30. Our third choices were tasty but not what we came for.
The food at Prairie Grass Café is fantastic and the staff are great too!
You need to start offering Moscato... besides Reisling.
Our waitstaff was AWESOME!
Had a lovely lunch with a friend. Great food and service!
Everything was great except the tortilla soup which had not nearly enough (garnish) tortilla avocado etc when my son wanted to ask for more we couldn’t find our waiter
Food very tasty! The Beet Salad very very skimpy.
Always go here when I’m in the Chicago area. Great farm to table type menu; good vibe; nice venu for dinner, drinks, and conversation with a friend. So happy I found this place!
Orchid show after dinner
It’s a very nice place for lunch. I wish it were quieter. The food is consistently food.
I do not think your lunch prices are competitive for the area. I do like this restaurant though. I plan on going only if a colleague requests.
Overall a good solid value
I come here often with colleagues and the food is consistently delicious! The noise level is not high so you can have a conversation without yelling.
