In its wildly colorful and hip restaurant, POV at the W Hotel in Washington D.C. serves contemporary and elegant American cuisine in its rooftop eatery. The jumbo shrimp cocktail served over spicy papaya salad with a Korean chill cocktail sauce and the battered and fried Buffalo cauliflower with blue cheese make sensational and spicy starter options. Some of POVs specialty house entres include the New York strip steak frites in mint chimichurri sauce, chef Rondes crab cake with miso glazed Brussels sprouts and the wild mushroom pizza with parmesan pine nut crema. Sandwiches, like the lamb merguez wrap with tapenade and oregano tomato jam and the CBLT with lemon herb grilled chicken and bacon jam, are both inventive and satisfying.
Enjoy your excellent fare and the beautiful view with a craft cocktail, such as the rustic sour with rye, all spice, lemon, blueberry, grapefruit and cinnamon simple syrup.
We had family guests in town to view the Cherry Blossoms, and this turned out to be the perfect spot for lunch. I couldn't believe we got a reservation for 6, but the staff couldn't have been nicer, and put us in one of the best tables in the restaurant. The food is very good and the view is seriously unbeatable anywhere in DC. The service was a bit slow, but it was a Saturday afternoon, so it was very crowded. and the drinks are delicious. Highly recommend.
This was my second visit to POV, both times with out-of-towners, for weekday lunch this time, previously for brunch. We went to POV for the view. I am a foody; my guests were a 17-year-olds, one vegetarian, one omniverous. The menu is so-so and very expensive ($17 for a small tapas-like plate), which is okay if you have a good viewing day. The menu attempts to be trendy and is very limited, especially if you have children (the waiter explained that it is basically a bar menu), and nothing of interest really for either my guests or me. This visit was a cloudy, damp day and the plastic "curtains" very down limiting the view. The terrace itself is a bit down-at-the heels; the back area with the best view was roped off, as it was the previous time. Service was okay, not outstanding. The whole place was a bit dispiriting. I think I'll look for other places in town that provide good views.
Wonderful place to introduce a young person to an "up high" view of the area around the White House.
The best view in DC! A bit crowded and typically hard to get a table but the view is worth the wait!!
Several friends and I made a reservation for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The waiter was extremely inattentive, it took 35 minutes for our sandwiches to arrive (making us very late for our next activity), and the check was full of hidden "service" fees. For example, my friends ordered a $50 bottle of wine because it worked out to be cheaper than $14/glass. POV added on a $55 service fee for a $50 bottle of wine. There were other charges as well, such as a 'group table fee' (not tax) although there was just 5 of us eating. This place is run by fraudsters. The appetizers were good, but the mains were not desirable. My advice is to go here for one drink and pay in cash. But be sure to talk to the waiter before to ensure there's no hidden fees for doing so. They're becoming well known for sneaking in charges anywhere they can.
We had read a great review about brunch at POV, but our experience was less than spectacular and not what I have come to expect from W Hotels I have experienced in Austin and New York.
While the view is spectacular, the brunch options left much to be desired. The menu was limited and the available selections were not worth the price paid.
The setting felt old and run down giving the impression that POV is best suited as an evening locale with dim lights, loud music, and mixed drinks.
I would recommend a visit for a drink with a view then move on to another spot.
If you are looking for about the best view in DC with good food, this is your place.
The cost of lunch here is expensive for what you received. It was tasty and the cocktails were excellent. Its a great place for a special occasion.
Our group went on a November Saturday mid-afternoon, after attending another DC event nearby [Oyster Riot]. We were seated at one of the banquette tables in what felt like a private roped-off area -- we felt rock stars! Even though we weren't on the rail, we were still able to enjoy the cityscape views and the sunset was amazing. Our bartender and waitperson couldn't have been more accommodating and the overall experience was top notch.
The directions to the restaurant did not work with our iPhones and sent us in the opposite direction. Luckily I'd been there before and arm wrestled the iPhone believers to go the other way. Waiter was a little slow, but okay... food was good not great.... martini was delicious. You can't beat the view and I imagine thats why most people go there.
I took out of town guests to POV. Service was indifferent at best and food was mediocre. Here is an example of the service we got: when I ordered tea, the tea arrived in a cup, without a saucer, spoon or sweetener. I asked for honey. Then when it arrived 5 minutes later without a spoon, I had to wait another 5 minutes to flag down someone to get one. And this went on for the rest of the meal.... For food: we ordered pizzas and the chicken sandwich. Pizza crust was soggy, almost as if it had been put in a microwave. Chicken sandwich was dry and fried.
In short go for cocktails and the view. The food sure isn't worth it and if you're drinking cocktails, maybe you won't notice the surly service.
Great view in the warmer months... plastic was down to block out the wind. This is not a place to have a fancy dinner because the menu is small. But great for lunch and drinks at night.
Great view of the White House, Washington Monument. Great drinks, good snack choices. Friendly staff.
The waitress was very annoyed when asked about food choices containing gluten. The service was very slow. If your in Washinton DC. Skip this place. You will be wasting your time
This venue is provides beautiful views of the city in an open air setting. The cocktails are unique and add to a fun atmosphere. Everything we ate was great as well.
The pizza was "uncutable" if you mean. The Caesar Salad was only lettuce for U$13,00 and the hamburger was with old bread. The food is the worst point.
As a visitor of DC and wanting an city view of the skyline, this was the best view of the White House. We were greeted kindly and walked to our table. Our server was nice and got us our drinks and water. Ordered Chicken Skewers, Harissa Lamb, and Marghertita Pizza. All were well prepared and had fresh taste. All staff was really nice as they would pass our table and greet us with a smile. Had friendly conversations with the young lady who seated us. Made us feel welcomed.
I took my family from out of town to lunch here mainly for the view, which you can't beat. Even though the hamburger at lunch was delicious, the view is what takes the price up to $20. I would go back, but only on special occasions like this one.
I visited POV for my birthday this past weekend and loved it. We went early in the day so they were able to accommodate my larger party of ten which was great. The service was great, the staff was friendly, and the food was good. I really liked the sparklers and the caramel cheesecake brought out for my birthday. The greatest thing about this venue is the amazing view. It was a great place to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. FYI it's a kid friendly place during the day. I recommend it.
Great spot for people watching with views over The White House and across to The Washington Monument
So the scenery is hard to beat! The view and atmosphere were amazing! I thought they had brunch but apparently they don't anymore since the renovations. I would have liked to have been notified because that was the reason we went there in the first place but there was nothing at all saying that they don't serve brunch. They should really update that. Or serve brunch because it is a perfect "brunch" spot!
I loved the views and it made you feel "DC" but the food was definitely overpriced for what you got. Cheese and bread and pepperoni practically was $24! I guess you pay for the view.
Good customer service and an amazing view. I highly recommended, especially, for drinks. But, the food was ok... not great... I'm very demanding regarding food taste!
Initial service was wonderful - they helped seat our group which had stragglers. Food portion size was small but expected. Latter service was slow; given how busy it got after 1:00 you'd think they'd want to move us along from drinks to food to more drinks to paid, but maybe they thought they were doing us a favor. Lunch took 2.5 hours. Great view, nice staff. I'd definitely go back.
They recently finished a fantastic renovation that allows for great views from every seat in the house. The covered awning is great to keep the sun off (and the rain) but the open air dining is second to none. The employees are fantastic and also very interesting people. Everyone worked well together to make sure our dining experience was very memorable and exciting. The seats are very comfortable and the food was fantastic. The duck on our salad was cooked beautifully and my rare burger was one of the best I've had. The fries that came with my burger were the best I've ever had.
Food is as exceptional as the view. The waitress was pleasant and responsive and the food was hot and very good.
The staff is friendly, the drinks are tasty, and the ambience is fantastic! While the food is better than it was when under pHotel Washington, it's still not a dining venue so much is a great place to show people Washington views
The food is good but you can get good food anywhere. You come here for the elevated view of DC and great people watching. It is fun place to grab lunch if you are doing the tourist thing during the day as the restaurant is more casual and you can see several monuments and the whitehouse. At night the view is cool because all the monuments are lit up as are the patrons. Most dress night club-ish and it makes for fun people watching.
Beautiful views. Which I guess justifies the one dollar each tater tots and watery drinks. It is incredible that these folks haven't figured out how to make a magnificent view something more than a tacky bar with wobbly Walmart tables.
Overall I had a good afternoon here with a friend of mine but the food was a bit disappointing. My friend had crab cake and was happy about it, but I had a pizza which was surprisingly small and uninspiring in terms of taste. After that, we ordered bacon and cheese fritters which weren't that tasty either. Nevertheless, the views are amazing, so in the end it was a perfect spot to drink a glass of wine with my friend who came out of town.
As always had a great dining experience at the W's POV in DC. I brought my niece and nephew from PA and they loved it.
POV at the W Hotel is an excellent spot to have brynch or a drink and relax. Probably the absolute best view of the city. Its somewhat on the more pricer side of town, so be forewarned. I have eaten here several times, mostly brunch but have had late lunches/dinners here as well. Menu is small but grea seletion.
Came for brunch on Sunday with a party of six. We were seated at a low table ill-suited for eating. Ladies with dresses/skirts have no choice but to expose themselves unfortunately at this type of table. My wife's plate fell off the table because of the awkward table/seating position. The staff was courteous and replaced the plate, but my wife's shoe was covered in egg yolk and hollandaise. Food and drinks were good but not memorable. The view of the White House was average; the view of the Washington Monument was very pretty. My wife and I took a nice, scenic picture. There was trash, debris and broken glassware in the overhang gutter while viewing the White House. We'd return for an evening drink on a pretty night, but not for a meal.
Simply loved it! I want to return for a special date night or another special time w friends
The POV at the W Hotel offers a great view and a music video type ambiance. You feel important. I found the food to be completely average, nothing excellent nothing sub par. You are paying for the view. For lunch you can see the White House, Treasury, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, as well as Virginia. It is a fun environment and the service is OK. It was a $50 lunch (for an appetizer and two entrees).
POV staff were friendly and very attentive. Made for a wonderful experience.
When you plan a visit to a rooftop venue, you're looking for ambience -- to enjoy the view, a drink, a special moment in a special place. POV could be those things, but on the day we visited, the sound of the World Cup Soccer game (6-12-2014) was the backdrop for the scenery and the pricey drinks. So, one out of three is not bad, except that the noise was deafening, and the service was miserable.
Published dress code is clear. No one with a non-colar shirt or sneakers - ever. NOT. Suggest either changing the code or enforcing it. Those who go out of their way to comply feel shortchanged when other non-compliant guests show up and are seated. Maybe the policy should be different depending on time of day, etc. Bottom line is what's published on the web site needs to be accurate. In practice, today it is not.
You are paying for the view and not much else. View is decent of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington, etc. Food was mediocre at best... $93 for 3 drinks (@$15 a piece - even 2 small mimosas) an appetizer, and 2 very bland sandwiches. Even their French fries were just okay - how do you mess up French fries!!!! For what could be an awesome spot, they are in dire need of better food! Would never return...checked it off my list of things to do in DC!
Took the girlfriend here on Memorial Day weekend, it was unneccasirly tough to book a table both times we went. The food is finger food, and totally passable. The $15 drinks are $5 drinks with a $10 view. In the photos it makes it seem like the White House is closer than it is, be warned for a disappointment
Service from hostess to server was .... Snobby. Not pleasant. Ambiance and view were great but was expecting better service since it is apart of a hotel
