Posto Ratings and Reviews
Posto is a great restaurant and consistently good. They are also very amenable to sahring plates - most of which are quite large, so if you are planning to have more than one course, sharing is the way to go! You are also likely to see notable Washington insiders dining there - the other night Pelosi and Reid were a couple tables over from us.
Posto was our choice because it was close to the Studio Theatre. I had also read fairly decent reviews online. Those reviews were correct. The food was extremely flavorful and well presented. The staff was attentive and friendly but seemed a little bit surprised when I mentioned later in the dinner that we wanted to make sure we got to the theater by eight o'clock. We actually had a 6:30 reservation which should be more than plenty of time for dinner and drinks for three people. I should have known that a decent Italian restaurant would stretch it out a little bit. We were just in time to make the play. I be very confident that taking other friends or relatives to Posto.
Upon entering the open restaurant space you'll notice that it's incredibly quiet for its size. No walls separate the tables. Only four well placed columns to keep the roof up. The ambience is electric, yet subdued. A very chic business casual atmosphere is trumping the scene near capitol heights. The crowd is late 20's on up and definitely suitable for a mature crew. The bar is stocked with all the usual top shelf liquor as well as a wine list to die for. So far the only place I can find Emeritus Pinot Noir, and at only $18 above regular cost, their alcohol markup is manageable. The food was great, not write home to momma great but for the price it was great. The service was awesome as well. Seamless. I'd go back again for sure.
Consistently good to great food. Fantastic staff - notably the hostess(s) and Ann Marie our favorite server. Great vibe - sleek and stylish for what is essentially a neighborhood restaurant. Would recommend for just about any occasion. Besides great wines by the glass the bar also serves up great cocktails.
We go to Posto before performances at Studio Theater. It is a perfect spot for a pre-theater meal. Many choices from interesting soups and great salads to house-made pastas (all that we've tried have been delicious) and main courses. A good assortment of wines buy the glass to choose from as well. Service is efficient without being pushy. We always have a reasonably paced evening with ample time to make the curtain.
It is too bad that decor counts for so much, and noise levels do not. With concrete floors, bare tables and high ceilings, the ambiance is raucous. One does not need a shouting match while dining, but this can happen by the end of one's meal at Posto. What does the public have to do or say before "the industry" or "the system" will change its ways?
Food was and service were good all around, but nothing special. Could easily go to any of the other similar Italian places in the area and be just as satisfied and find it easier to get a reservation. Only complaint was one of the girls at our table left her left overs at the table. When she came back literally one minute later they had already thrown it away in the trash and just said "sorry too late." Not the best customer service...
The salads are a little basic for their price, but otherwise the food is excellent: unfussy, fresh, full of flavor.
I'm always surprised when I'm charged $14 for a single glass of wine.
The tables for two are a little too long to hear well when the evening din picks up. Otherwise, the place is that rare spot that works for work and romantic dinners.
I make it a habit of going to Posto before seeing a play at the Studio Theater next door. There's no better place to have a pre-play meal. Food is outstanding and the staff is always super professional, despite how busy the place gets. Because this is such a hot place, I highly recommend reservations.
Came across this restaurant by accident as we were staying nearby. What a great find! The food was excellent, the staff friendly and attentive. We tried the black truffle salame as a appitizer that came along with some pita bread. Best salame I ever had. The seafood pasta with light tomato sauce was great! It's located near Logan Circle and in an up and coming area. Deserving of 5 stars!
We had a reservation and arrived right on time. Our table wasn't ready, but the host staff was very nice about it. We went to the bar to get drinks and wait. The host staff made sure we'd be served at the bar and let us know they were finding us another table since ours still had people there, and were very apologetic. Our server was great, made excellent recommendations, and was helpful. The food was excellent! Will definitely be returning. It looked like they were very accommodating to large groups as well. Definitely a place you want a reservation at though!
I have been back many times to this restaurant. In the beginning they would have received a "good" rating but they have really improved over the last 6-8 months. I will be back soon after my last visit. Everyone at our table (8 people) loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the food. The service was also very good.
Two of us liked the food a lot; one liked it enough; and one of us didn't find what he wanted on the menu,(chicken) and he especially was bothered by the noise. Actually, all of us "older folks" - three over 65 - found the noise level very off-putting. We need to hear each other speak. Maybe if we were there another time - this was Thursday night - the noise would have been more tolerable. The dessert was "to die for" - all of us felt that unanimously - and it was "just" chocolate gelato, but the best gelato we ever tasted.
We have eaten at Posto many times before because it is next to the Studio Theater. Last night was an all time low not just for Posto but for any place at all at which we have eaten recently. We were there about 8 minutes, in a restaurant about 1/3 filled, before we could get any attention from the staff. The food was really slow to come out, so slow that it seemed as if she had lost our order. In spite of our frequent pleas and, finally, the intervention of the manager, the server brought out out only one plate for one person at a time, a practice no one could persuade her to change. And when the plates came, the food portions consisted(save some brussel sprouts) of single spoonfuls of food. Awful. For everyone.
