Postino Ratings and Reviews
Not only is the food always good, we think that it is the very best bang for your buck! Great ambiance and cozy environment. We have have always been very fortunate to have great servers when go there.
It is the easiest of recommendations and can be made without any hesitation.
I think Postino is the best restaurant on this side of the tunnel. Food always great: inventive without being weird. Always top notch ingredients and perfect execution. Friendly, attentive, professional wait staff. Good wines and bar. Pricey but always worth it.
Been a regular here for years. One of the few places where you could get a substantial "non sandwich" lunch. Now they've gone over to the dark side at lunch with more sandwich and burger fare and much less great pasta dishes and more unique lunch offerings. I'm betting it will turn out to be a mistake.
I'll have to look elsewhere now for a really high end lunch.
Postinos is one of our favorite restaurants. Alsways good food and excellent service. My husband had the foe gra and it was suburb! The steak and the duck were wonderful! I think our only negative was the cost of the martinis, 13.00 and really on the small size.
Otherwise, a very enjoyable evening!!
Overall experience was terrible. Table for two was the size of a nightstand or side table. Extensive wine list but no cocktail menu. Food was lacking- I ordered Petrale Sole which came with risotto. The sole was rolled up in a ball & set in the middle of the risotto which was over-filled with golden raisins & almonds. It was like eating trail mix & creamy rice. Fish was ok but wouldn't order it again. The whole dish was weird & just didn't go together. My companion ordered Veal Schnitzel & that came with Polenta. The veal was way overbreaded, deep fried & greasy- couldn't taste the meat at all, only the breading- definitely did not do the veal any justice. Polenta was creamy & delicious. Needless to say, we did not stay for desert.
Friday night was busy. From the Valet to getting our car at the end it was excellent. Checked in, went to bar - full. A waitress took our order and gave us a table that could be used for dinner. Warm and welcoming. Hostess found us before our reservation and seated us. Waiter was attentive throughout. Menu interesting and food delicious. We never felt rushed. It was a warm and very pleasant evening. We have been goinging to this restaurant for years. It never disappoints.
The food, wine and service were exceptional!
The noise level was very high. Hard to have a nice conversation without talking very loud. But, the food was exceptional. The service, from hostess, server, wait staff and even the manager who can by was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Still good after all these years. Been coming here since the beginning and the ambience, service, and food continues to excel. It has become a little more pricey, but the food and experience is really nice. Fish stew, short ribs with polenta, and crab salad - fabulous! Good all year round, but especially nice in the winter with the fireplace.
Have been going to Postino since it was Turelles. Long time. Unfortunately our recent visit was disappointing. My husband ordered one of the specials, "Lamb Cobbler". It was not lamb but beef. I do not like lamb so I tasted it and definitely agreed that it was not lamb. It tasted like pieces of short rib.
I ordered the duck breast, and although it tasted good there was more fat under the skin than usual. The last time we went, we were not impressed by the meal either, so we probably won't be going again any time soon.
Such a shame. You used to be able to rely on the quality of the food there.
Oily nuts, oily calamari (but calamari itself was good), oily deep fried duck (but again quality was good), nice duck breast should have been sliced thinner or not at all, served with orzo pasta that was tasty but didn't really go with duck. Seated in quiet room away from music and fireplace which even after hostess heard us complaining that it was far from music, she still sat us there. Better food elsewhere. Good waiter and busboy.
We loved the cozy feel. It seemed like there were quite a few people, but we could still have a conversation. Excellent food. Outstanding service. I'd like to go back once a season (or more :)) to see how the menu changes, to sit outside, to check out the bar, etc. I very much recommend it.
Another Fabulous Dinner at Postino!!! Friends & I went to Postino after attending a Christmas concert in Oakland. Unfortunately the concert started late & ran longer than we were told; I called Postino to let them know what had happened & they graciously extended our reservation time. Upon arrival, one of my friends & I ordered the 2012 Attune Pinot Noir (my favorite); it's a bold Pinot. My friend's husband ordered a Chardonnay; he tasted the Pinot & thought it too bold for his palate. My friends split a Caesar salad & both had grilled salmon w/a warm baby spinach salad w/bacon lentil vinaigrette. I ordered a mixed green salad w/champagne vinaigrette and the short ribs w/polenta & English peas - great comfort food for a chilly evening. We all enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was Heather. She was very knowledgeable about items on the menu & the specials and had a great sense of humor. Service was attentive but not intrusive. She did an awesome job. Can't wait to go back - - -
Another lovely meal with very nice service. I continue to be intrigued by the less than friendly hostesses here. As the first impression when entering the front door they are, for the most part, lovely in appearance...but so far entirely unappealing socially. I have yet to be smiled at or feel welcomed by any of the hostesses. This is an unfortunate first impression of an otherwise lovely and well established restaurant. Overall experience and service ratings directly attributable to the ladies at the front of the house.
Beautiful food, beverage and service in a mostly lovely environment. Our only negative comment would be the awkward, tiny table we were seated at near the entrance to the bathrooms with uneven floors and mismatched chairs. Very unexpected for our 6PM reservation in an otherwise nearly empty restaurant. The only thing more unexpected was upon requesting to move to a table which my legs were not wedged under was to be told to have my date sit in my seat instead of me (no thank you, neither of us should be uncomfortable at Postino and he's a 6'1" man and I'm 5'4"...certainly he wont fit there either) and that the restaurant was "booked" so moving would not be possible. I persisted stating that I'd rather sit in the bar to enjoy our much anticipated celebration dinner so was ushered to a table directly adjacent to the kitchen entrance. A VAST improvement from the bathroom table but still insulting as we left and realized that while the wonderful restaurant was bustling, it was far from booked. As people with a history restaurant/hospitality work, we know how this works. Our waiter was wonderful and he recommended a delicious and appropriate bottle of wine, and our food amazing so we'll be back. However, we will specify a table the next time we visit.
Superb service and a yummy menu. Really good wine list and tasty dessert options. It's still a little noisy but a nice atmosphere overall. Reservations are suggested and a few minute wait at the bar isn't bad. Short ribs are perfect and you shouldn't leave without a smile. Nicely done as usual.
We were out for a quick but special anniversary dinner before heading to a party. The waiter was very attentive, helpful, and not at all snooty about the fact that we were going to have a more simple meal. Seared Fois Gras starter was obviously amazing. Good Brussel spouts appetizer but not as good as the one at Sasa in WC for those of us that don't care for those vile weeds at all. Enjoyed the Vongole appetizer as an entrée and loved it. Excellent quantity of clams and really nice broth for dipping (with depth of flavor). My husband had Fish Stew and also loved it. Ambiance is always great even next to the loud open kitchen. The brick/wood against the white table cloth/wine glasses etc make it a comfortable but elegant dining experience. Live jazz guitarist topped it off. We didn't love it about 8-10 years ago for some reason (liked but not loved) but starting 3-4 years ago... we now love it!! Not sure what happened but maybe it is what you order etc? Rabbit pasta is amazing. Burrata appetizer -- delish!
This was our first visit and we came based on the recommendations from Check Please Bay Area. We came about an hour early planning to have drinks at the bar. That was a very confusing part, and the only reason anything was checked above for less than 5 stars. It really wasn't clear if the tables in the bar area were for people, such as us, that only wanted drinks while waiting for their reservation time, it didn't look like there was service outdoors by the firepit, and the bar itself was full with lots of wait-staff moving through, etc. So it was not easy getting served and deciding where to sit. Then, when it came close to our reservation time, we weren't sure anyone knew where our group was. But we enjoyed our drinks by the firepit (immensely) and once we were seated for dinner literally everything was outstanding. It was well worth the drive and the event (a birthday) was extraordinary.
