***Opentable reservations not valid for rooftop seating. Reservations that opt to dine on our rooftop deck will be considered a "no-show" if not canceled or adjusted at least an hour in advance.
Great food and a cool, unique atmosphere. The rooftop is awesome. The only downsides were that the waiter didn’t come by the table very often and the water is served in very small glasses, so we were constantly asking for more.
We got 5 different vegetarian plates from the bar menu and split them like tapas and it was amazing! You can get the blistered asparagus without the ham and it’s incredible! Also, the BBQ tofu wrap has such a wonderful sauce, would so recommend, along with the goat cheese croquettes.
Interesting cocktails, delicious food and attentive service. Fun little rooftop patio which is great when weather is warm. We started up there but moved when it got cool and they worked with us. Have been there serveral times and always happy with it!
We got off to a rocky start. We had reservations and were seated quickly but our server was slow to make an initial table visit. We were concerned we’d miss the happy hour oysters because of the long wait, but thankfully wanted 18 and the kitchen had the exact number left even though the happy hour time had passed while we waited for someone to get to our table to take an order. We ordered the oysters and beers, however, the oysters arrived before our beer order arrived. Two of our beers were mixed up (thankfully we know our beers). One beer we’re sure wasn’t what we ordered, however, the wait staff corrected it with another beer. A few minutes after ordering our meals, the wait staff told me my dish was not available so I had to get the menu back and choose another meal. Our food was delicious. The wait staff was friendly and very accommodating. She explained that the restaurant had had more patrons than normal on a Tuesday and things were hectic. Realizing we had a rocky experience, she brought us a complimentary slice of lemon cake. A very nice gesture. This isn’t a complaint, just facts of what happened. I’d definitely go back. Food, atmosphere and wait staff are good. Thanks.
Only ding was service was slow to start. Turned out waiter was on second day, but once he came he was fine. Cool place with historic charm/ambiance. Happy hour prices on select drinks and apps was also a bonus. As for food, we had two separate flatbreads that were very good. Can't vouch for anything else, but it looked good. Would go again.
Expensive if you go 3 courses but fine for small plate etc.
Waiter was new. He was very good. Food was excellent! Will return with friends. Cool place.
Went before the Fluffy show & made reservations. The steak fritters - don’t waste your money. It’s just a regular steak that is not seasoned well. The beer burger was good. The service was slow. Getting our check took 35min after we finished only after we asked 3 people.
I love Postbellum, but for our group it was really hard to hear each other when speaking and at times even the server. The music was just a bit too loud and it competed with the patrons chatter and the game on at the bar.
We had a lovely table to seat 6. Our server was quick to welcome us and take our order. Our food came out quickly. I had an appetizer with curry, cauliflower and pita. The yogurt sauce was minimal and it was quite spicy. My friend order the cream of onion soup. It had a texture of baby food and not great flavor. The salads were not very eye appealing and a basic mixed salad. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was well prepared, but the lack of grits made it not as enjoyable as i had hoped. It was not the type of food i was expecting. One of the guests ordered the beet salad and the Brussels sprouts and she loved her meal.
The table was not bussed as often as i like. When bringing a beverage, the previous empty was not cleared. When you have 6 guests, this makes for a very crowded table.
Drinks were well prepared and yummy.....My advise, get drinks and eat somewhere else.
Went here for birthday brunch on a Saturday. Very low key. Waiter attentive. Food great.
Good food and wide variety on menu to suit everyone tastes. Sat by front window which was chilly on a cold, rainy night. Not much to absorb sound so a little noisy but not terribly inconvenient. Definitely will return!!
The service was very slow. Our first course took 30 min to come. The server also forgot my husband's drink (she didn't charge it to us in the end, which I appreciated). My husband really like his meal, mine was OK, not great. I had heard so much about the restaurant that i expected better.
Service and food was great. Highly recommend the crab cake sandwich and truffle fries! Our waitress was kind and attentive, and everything came out perfect.
The crispy Brussel sprouts are amazing - really stellar. It was hard for the rest of the meal to live up to that opener. Roast harissa cauliflower was really nice - they take vegan food seriously. The fried chicken was good, but the greens and grits with it were great. Steak frites were just okay. Crabcake blt was a big hit. Overall, the whole dinner for four was was kind of uneven, but the great moments we're really great. Service was attentive and friendly. Center room was quite loud. This is the kind of restaurant I like to support so they can reach the top of their game. It will be very good when they get there.
We had a delightful waitress, great food, great service, and loved the restaurant. Other than being noisy and crowded it was wonderful!
New to Richmond and postbellum. On the way to see a show at Altria . Our experience was great and the food tasty! A hidden gem! Only negative .......One table was extremely loud (the group was very boisterous )not the restaurants fault.
We selected from the special Valentine’s menu. The drinks and entrees were delicious.
The food was really good - a balanced set of flavours, the dishes turned out to be as expected (nor surprises). The service was also very good - the staff was courteous and very professional.
Went for Valentine’s Day and can’t wait to go back! Service was amazing (give Chloe a raise), the entire waitstaff from hostess to waitress were amazing and even other FOH employees greeted us along the way. I had the monkfish special and my boyfriend had the steak. WOW. The 3 course meal was perfect from start to finish. We will absolutely be back!
We arrived early for our reservation, and sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The hostess promised to come get us when it was ready, but when our reservation time rolled around, I had to go remind her as she seemed to think she’d never seen me before, no table was available, she couldn’t find our reservation (in spite of confirming it when we arrived), and she then set the table for one, in spite of there being two in my party. We left without eating dinner, after drinks, and closed out our ticket. The next morning, I discovered that the restaurant had pushed an unauthorized charge for more than $850 to my debit card, causing automatic payments that posted overnight to be declined by my bank. Subsequent calls to the restaurant confirmed that this was an error on the part of the bartender, when closing out our ticket. I worked in restaurants for years in high school and college and never saw anything like an $850+ keystroke error on a card transaction. Never going back to Postbellum.
Disappointed with the duck nachos and brussel sprouts. The meat and cheese plate was on point. Our server was fantastic and very attentive.
Food is great and extensive beer selection. Service was not good. We saw the food runners more than we saw our sever.
We were dining on a Saturday evening before going the Richmond Forum so the restaurant was busy . Our server was cheerful and helpful but was late coming to see us when we were seated then absent too much of the evening. The meat and cheese appetizer tray was a hit but the dinner entrees while good were not exceptional. Save room for the desserts. The Apple Napoleon was noteworthy.
Great service. Shrimp any grits are super. Special cocktails.
Excellent food, ambiance and service!
New Year Eve dinner was great. Had test menus. Service was great.
Very nice time - heat was off though a bit cold. Staff was exceptand and decor great but how can you be out of foccia bread when it is a specific dish on the menu? We will go back!
Everything was absolutely fantastic. Fun decor, friendly waitstaff, food was absolutely amazing. Order a Bloody Mary or mimosa!! Everything sounded so good we ordered too much...able to take it home.
my 5th time going to Postbellum. Each time food and beverages are good or very good, but the service is slow. Wait staff are friendly but not attentive. Waited 15+ minutes to give our drink order. We arrived at 5pm and there was ONLY ONE other table so they weren't busy. Frites and oyster stew were delicious
I was excited to take my friend to Postbellum for her birthday before seeing a show and I had been wanting to dine there myself. The appetizers (truffle honey frites and ricotta ravioli) were delicious. The big downfall was my entree - the local pork was so tough I could barely chew it. It didn't look overcooked - nice pink in the center - I don't know what went wrong. I asked the waitress if she had tasted the pork, which she hadn't, but she sent someone (manager or another server maybe - he didn't tell me who he was) over and he asked what he could do to make it right. I expected him to suggest something, but he didn't. I was so disappointed I didn't ask for anything - and I didn't get anything. After removing my barely touched plate, the entree remained on my bill. For my friend's birthday we ordered the lavender ice cream, which was the highlight of the meal. They could have at least comp'd that, but didn't.
Loved it! It’s our favorite restaurant in Richmond.
Get the duck nachos. Just get them. Thank me later.
The Date Night deal on Sunday evening is terrific. We each had a glass of wine, shared a delicious oyster stew and split a pasta entree. The creamy meatball sauce could have been too rich, but it was perfect: hearty and light at the same time.
This was an overall horrible experience. I reserved a table for 11 and they tried to put us at two separate tables not connected. When asked (we were trying to have a family brunch) both the hostess and manager were rude and didn’t seem to care at all that they couldn’t accommodate us. They said “we have other large reservations” which made me feel as though our reservation was somehow less important.
Great restaurant to grab a bite before a play at the Altria Theater. The food was very good, and service was good, but not overbearing, which was a nice balance.
Great spot for dinner and drinks before going to the theater. Food and service were both great.
Great service - convenient location
The food at Postbellum was extremely uninspiring and poorly executed. The bread came to the table with cold butter that tore the bread apart. The cornbread had absolutely no taste. The onion soup had a mealy texture and the spaghetti bolognese was watery and the pasta was way over cooked. I was told by others that the food had gone downhill and I should avoid the restaurant. Should have listened to their advice. I won’t return.
It was very crowded and loud when we first arrived. Things got better as the evening unfolded. Waiter was fabulous!
