I've attended this restaurant a handful of times and have always been greeted warmly. I find the hosts to be able to accommodate our needs and the food is excellent. I personally like the gnocchi.
we have been going to this restaurant for years since before it became "italian"...the food is great and, until fairly recently, would eat here at lease twice a week. unfortunately, the owner has seen fit to use the popularity as a reason to raise prices dramatically, so much so that we will cut back on eating here as often....this is not a matter of being cheap as we live not he peninsula and re used to high costs of everything...wr just don't appreciate what they have done here....
Hidden gem. Love the food, service and atmosphere. New go-to place in my book. Great gluten free options.
Had the PK Cobb Salad for lunch. It was totally over priced for what was serviced. Now, I remember why I don’t go.
Awsome food and service. Special pasta of the night with eggplant was out of this world. Great pizza for kids too. We’ll be back!

This is a fun restaurant. The interior is charming. Service is very good. Pasta with kale pesto is AMAZING. You can sit outside (they have heat lamps) which is very fun to people watch.
We eat here often, usually for brunch. Slthough there was a full house, the service was timely and
courteous. The food was excellent. The hostess was especially gracious.

Our server, Luis, was terrific. He was patient when we needed time to read the extensive menu and he was very funny. The restaurant felt warm and friendly.
For appetizers we had the crab cakes in a delicious lobster sauce, the polenta (the sausage was the best!) and the halloumi with arugula. Chef Luis came to the table to explain the cheese to us. It was the most delicious cheese I've ever eaten, and I'm not a goat cheese fan at all. This changed my mind.
For our entrées, we ordered the lobster ravioli, the prawns, and a vegetarian pasta dish. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the wine, the staff and the holiday atmosphere.
For dessert we shared the bread pudding. This dessert and coffee was perfect way to end a wonderful meal.

We were there early so it was nicely quiet...food and service we great. I love their beet salad...it's the best.
Fresh ingredients, homemade pastas, cooking by a chef who knows what he’s doing in the kitchen...all this describes our meal tonight. We really enjoyed every course and we enjoy the well-trained, friendly staff. This is a great neighborhood spot..
4th time was a bust. After 3 - 5 star experiences over the last 3 months, this time the food was just off. The pastas all had a smoky flavor, not a welcome addition to a tomato cream sauce. The baked rigatoni was gummy and mushy. I hope it was an anomaly, and we will try it again.

Was very surprised once looking at the menu, that this was a copy of the Il Fornaio menu! Even to the extent of the list sequence of the dishes! Prices are similar to Il Fornaio but quality isn’t. Dishes were far oilier and it took about 40min to get our meals.
Will not be returning, and next time will opt out for the real deal, Il Fornaio
Overall, a good place. I really liked their special- lobster soup! My main dish was spinach pasta with seafood. Unfortunately, it happened to be too spicy - it was not indicated as such on the menu. I had to leave most of it untouched. I let my waiter know, and she was very nice not to charge us for it.
Good friends getting together over a casual yet quality meal all within a 10 minute drive. We all had different meals. And we each enjoyed our choices. The prices were reasonable and for four people the tab with tip was $120. We agreed that we would be back.
I had the soup, it was awesome. My husband had the skirt steak which was wonderful too. Kids had pizza (one with a special request that was granted without a problem).
Nine of us went here for brunch and all had excellent meals including various omelettes, fruit platter, French toast. Service was excellent and couldn’t ask for a better place.

I was looking for a place to take our out-of-town son for a nice meal. We'd already
taken him with us to Portola Kitchen a number of times. Couldn't fine one any better than this special, local place. It's always good. Saturday night the food was terrific, including my spinach and asparagus soup which was outstanding.
I've come here many times and usually dine at the bar with my wife. The bartenders are fun to banter with as is the owner who is always there. This last time, I brought my entire family for my son's birthday so we reserved a table. I was a little disappointed that even with a reservation they stuck us at a table in the back. We made the best of it and enjoyed the amazing food. Certainly not a value restaurant but quality food at reasonable prices.
Wow! This was such a good restaurant. The menu was a bit overwhelming, with lots of choices and variety. We settled on sharing the burrata cheese, which was delicious but a bit pricey. Dinner was the spaghetti with salmon and my companion had the bolognese with pasta. Personally, the salmon was not my taste, mostly because it was wild salmon, a huge portion and flavored the whole pasta dish. If you love salmon, this is your dish. The bolognese was one of the best I have ever had and would go back again for this dish. So many dishes looked and sounded delicious. A definite thumbs up!
We had a nice dinner for 7 on a Sunday night. We had a slight misunderstanding of the corkage fee, and at the end of the meal the service was spotty, but the food was good and the Portola Valley ambiance refreshing.

Great lunch or dinner spot in an out of the way location with easy parking. Excellent food and a really good bar. The cappuccino was terrific, too!
We have eaten at the Portola Kitchen a few times and it has always been a pleasant experience whether you are inside or outside. The waiters are friendly and their service is always attentive. The food has always been great. I especially like the Mediterranean Sea Bass.
Salad was expensive and not fresh. Pasta tasted like dough and broth had no flavor. Bread was good. Seating not comfortable. Service good.
This place is always solid. I haven't been here for dinner, but the lunch is reasonably priced, and the food is good if not great.
Very accommodating for allergies especially gluten free and lactose intolerant options. They had delicious gluten-free pasta with marinara sauce. The other party with a regular diet at the eggplant Parmesan and the caprese salad which are both excellent. Superb service. The owner came buy to make sure that the food was fine especially with the allergies.
Food was great; service okay. Long delays between courses. We went on a Sunday and it was crowded. The tables were so close together you couldn't move your chair and people had a hard time walking between tables. There was a lot of bumping into chairs which became annoying and distracting. It was too loud to hold a conversation at our table. Lots of families and kids. I would insist on a booth the next time or sit outside with the hope that you could hold a conversation. Our special occasion wasn't as special as we'd hoped given these issues.
Came for brunch and sat outside. We started with cocktails which were both excellent. Our entrees took a long time to come out and when they did one entree had a hair on it, the server actually saw it as he laid the plate down so he took it back immediately, but then took a long time for a replacement dish. I had the special crab cake and lobster Benedict. The poached egg was cooked through and something tasted fishy. If you ate the sauce or the crab cake separately they were ok, but the dish all mixed up was weirdly fishy. My husband got an egg croissant which was standard, not bad but nothing outstanding. Finally to pay >70 for this seemed a bit too much. Won't be back for brunch again.
The Petrale Sole on the special with a light sauce and fingerling potatoes was great. We had Justin Cabernet with it. Even though a red wine it was very good. A little pricey at $15/glass.
The bread was high quality -- always nice.
The only knock is that parking is very difficult to find in the mall parking lot at lunch time.
Sadly disappointed :( Lovely location and ambiance. It was not busy 5:15 on a Sunday evening and our waiter was surley, must have been having a bad day. He seemed terribly inconvienced to be waiting our table of three! Ordered the special pizza of the day and granted we "left off" the proscuitto as we are vegetarians and the crust was dry cardboard, minimal sauce and minimal mozzerella which was tasteless. and an odd, melted consistency. I had heard so many good things about this place, a former High School Classmate created it, and I was excited to try it. The salads were very good and our guest did enjoy her Brussel Sprout preparation. They did not have the Rose available as listed and did not have a back-up choice to offer so I opted for a Pinot Grigio. Every restaurant has it's off days as does every employee. When in the area again I would like to give it another try as the location is great and I will order another entree. Thanks!
We had the prawns and the lamb chops and they were both great. The mai tai was really impressive too. Wonderful dinner. We will be back!
we have been going here for years, going back to when it had a "regular " menu. then it converted to italian with the best italian food on the peninsula and we know italian food because for 30 years we have been spending from 3-4 months per year in italy.the only problem is that they have continued to raid the prices dramatically so that, instead of going every week we are now going every other week..VERY expensive....
