We offer an inside dining area with a full bar and an outdoor patio with an amazing view in front of the restaurant. The patio allows guests to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner with the comfort of umbrellas and heat lamps. Whether you are catching the latest show hosted by Broadway by the Bay, catching a movie or spending a night out with your friends or family, Portobello Grill is the right place to start your night!
We often eat at the two restaurants owned by the same owner and we're always pretty pleased with the results. This time we came with some good friends and unfortunately the food was not up to it's usual quality, not was the service. Sorry, but we'll try again, I like locally owned restaurants and believe in supporting them.
The food lacked seasoning. The fish was bland. My salad was underdressed. The salad was a pile of arugula with some feta thrown on top and beets on the side. No flavor and not tossed with any kind of discernible drsssing. Service was very slow despite the restaurant not being crowded at all. I would not recommend nor would I eat here again.
It’s one, if not, the nicest restaurant near the Redwood City Century 20 Theaters. It’s a good menu, not too big. A full bar, linen tablecloths and napkins. Food was good for the price, not expensive given the Bay Area. Professional service, good for date night or families.
Always a favorite.
Meh. Food was bland. I had the blackened Mahi Mahi. No flavor, let alone spice.
EXCELLENT SERVICE, VERY ATTENTIVE CAUSE THEY REARRANGED THE TABLES FOR US, THEN WE WANTED TO MOVE TO ANOTHER ARE AND AGAIN THEY REARRANGED THE TABLES FOR THE 5 OF US, AN ODD NUMBER. WAS THERE FOR LUNCH, A VERY GOOD MENU. ATE AND SAT FOR 1 1/2 HOURS WITH NO PRESSURE TO LEAVE.
The food was fabulous. Service was excellent. The only downside is location. No fault at all to the restaurant. Lack of parking had me run a bit late for a meeting. Plan at least 10 minutes for locating a parking spot. Then ateast 30 minutes for the walk ;-)
Great location next to movie theater and reasonable price but food is average
Dependable, reasonable, comfortable, good food and service.
Food and service are always very good. I like the short ribs and the grilled salmon. The restaurant does have a full bar which is nice. Dogs are allowed in the large back room. Great guys, great local restaurant.
Great food. Very good service. The rib eye burger includes salad and french fries. The rib eye steak in the burger was tender and delicious. The price was resonable.
Service and food were terrific! I ordered my meat medium and it came medium but I changed my mind and asked them to make it well done and they were very gracious about it. The meat was just fine at medium and even better at well done (steak).
Chicken bacon on panini, delicious! All meals were great service was excellent, timing perfect! Have been celebrating birthday lunches with two friends for a few years. Portobello Grill does not disappoint. We go to a movie and dine there.
The food is fantastic and plentiful! Service was very good. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a delicious meal. It is small and a little noisy, but still well worth it.
Caesar was a super nice, efficient waiter. Our food was yummy.
Delicious ! Definitely recommend!
Service and food were great. We love this restaurant.
Pasta and Sauces were average. Not as fresh as expected.
Having never been in Redwood City before, I spent quite a bit of time looking at menus of restaurants near an event we were attending. Based on the menu I chose Portobello Grill. What a mistake as it was probably the worst meal I've ever had out.
First of all, a couple walked right in front of us entering the Restaurant. They did not have a reservation. The hostess spent so long with them, leaving us standing there, that an older man, perhaps the owner or manager started to help us.We already told him we did not want the table next to the door with the reserved sign on it, as there were many preferable empty tables on the other side.
It was a waste of time as when the very young, inexperienced hostess finally noticed us she once again tried to give us the most undesirable table in the entire place. We again declined and asked if we could sit at the nice window table but were told " no that's for 4 people" and were sat against the wall very close to tables on both sides. Then we waited. And waited. We finally ordered just as the couple without a reservation were sat at the window table I'd asked for!
We waited and waited again and started to see all the people that came in long after us, including the couple that got our table, get their food. It was a full hour before our order came out, cold. We sent it back and instead of apologizing and redoing it, it was reheated so our medium steak and burger were well done. My steak was also the wrong steak, Asian marinated rather than just grilled and it was awful, tough almost impossible to chew and if I had not waited so long and sent it back once, I'd have ordered something different. As it is the couple they gave our table to was finished eating, having had a lovely time with their food brought out hot in a timely fashion and not having people only inches away hearing us complain. They tried to give us more wine, but that wasn't what we wanted or needed. I even had to insist for the steak to be removed from the bill!
Overall the service was very good as well as the food tasty.
It’s moderately priced. The ceilings are high so it can get very noisy.
I had the mahi mahi for dinner and it was Very fresh as well as generous in proportion. I’d go back for sure!
Great casual cuisine. I would recommend their pasta...Linguine and Clams. Great service and really attentive staff... gets crowded after 7PM on Saturday...
Tasty food close to a popular movie theater in a comfortable dining room.
We have eaten at Potobello Grill many times. It’s in a great location for after the movies or theater.
We have always been pleased with the food and service.
Overall really enjoy Portobello Grill but my second time visiting service was a bit slow. My wife did not get a refill and the waiter only came by once before the bill. He was very nice. The restaurant only had two other couples.
We will be back.
Excellent food and service. Our table was too small to comfortably seat 5 people and it was right in the service and bathroom path so a different seating location would have made for a better experience.
Server kept disappearing...had to ask several times for water, coffee took forever...
Always a great experience and a nice variety of items on the menu. I had the salmon and prawn special and it was excellent. The lamb shank is memorable too.
I ordered a salad to be served 1st, then a 2nd item to be served after. Both items were brought at the same time. I pointed out the error but got a blank look.
I ate the hot item , then when I tried the salad, discovered there was no dressing. I sent it back. Disappointing experience.
Excellent pre show experience. Order early as they really get overwhelmed about 6:45 - hour before show seating time. Food, service and cocktail was excellent.
It is nice that Portobello Grill gives a coupon to those attending Broadway by the Bay.
We have been coming here for years, it’s consistently delicious, Service is great and the menu has something for every taste.
Go there before every Broadway by the Bay performance. Maybe time to change up some items on the menu. The skirt steak is amazing!
We loved that we were able to sit outside. service was great at first. I had skirt steak with rice. The rice was very mushy and I wanted to send it back. My friend loved her salmon dish. They forgot about us after the food was served though. I just ate a little of the rice as I couldn’t get anyone’s attention inside the restaurant. They closed the door to the restaurant as it was getting darker and chillier. We were the only table occupied left. I had to go inside to ask the hostess to send our server. We needed water and ready for coffee and dessert. They comped our coffee. Not impressive way to make up for lack of service.
We all chose dishes from the luncheon specials, and we were not disappointed. Loved my chicken/BLT sandwich. My fellow diners had the pasta/w salmon, their plates were licked clean. Love to come in for lunch after an early movie.
We have eaten at Portobello Grill many times in the past but were disappointed with our meal on Saturday night. We both had the petrale sole and it was overcooked, dry and had no seasoning. There were also no vegetables except for two small grape tomatoes. The service was slow and it wasn't that crowded. I am hoping this was just a bad night for the cook.
First time at Portobello Grill. Definitely will come back and recommend. Food was fabulous. Service was outstanding. I arrived just prior to the reservation time but my friends were running late. I ordered a glass of wine while waiting and our server said "no problem, just relax, you're good". When my friends arrived we were not rushed in any way. Our server was great, very attentive, but not overly. And we definitely enjoyed the food, three of us had the salmon & shrimp special, and one ordered chicken cacciatore off the menu.
It was my wife’s Birthday dinner. We had not been here in a while. They made us feel special. Food was great, drinks were fantastic and service was superb!
This is a neighborhood favorite and we are never disappointed. Great variety from salmon to lamb to pasta. Prices are reasonable and service is very professional and fun. (Way to go Mike!) Perfect place for dinner before or after a movie.
Six of us had dinner after seeing a show at the Fox theater. Service was excellent. We first ordered drinks which arrived promptly. My husbands martini tasted odd/different to him. The waiter immediately took the drink and had it remade. All our dinner selections were very good. Great service and good food. Very nice evening.
We’ve been occasionally to the Portobello Grill for a pre-performance dinner and our experience has generally been favorable. This particular Saturday evening was a disappointment. After twenty minutes of being ignored, we had to flag down a server to get attention. Even though we apparently were not “his” table, he did get us cocktails and take our dinner orders. We were served by a variety of people but it was never clear who our server was. The “stand-ins” did their cheerful best but we were constantly told they were very busy that night. The restaurant had to know how busy they were going to be by the numbers of reservations. If they were inadequately staffed to handle additional walk-ins, they should have refused to seat them. As it was, our table of six that had been reserved weeks in advance did not get the service we expected. We’ll give them another try in the future. The food is good and reasonably priced and perhaps they’ll solve their obvious staffing problem.
