Portobello Grill Ratings and Reviews
While our meals were not horrible they just didn't have flavor. The chicken piccata was not coated in anything and seemed to have been steamed because when you cut the chicken it water ran out. The Caesar salad dressing had no flavor at all. I hate finding the butt of the salad head in your dish. I had two in my plate! They were brown and taste horrible. I'm surprised they didn't notice that.
We eat outside and the people watching is not relaxing. Lots of kids running around yelling at each other. Just not a great experience.
Petrale sole with veggies was cooked to perfection! Friendly and attentive wait staff, lovely ambience, with outdoor seating available. Indoor was a little quieter, but we had a window seat so we could enjoy both the peaceful and elegant indoor setting while having some sunlight and people-watching opportunities as well.
We enjoy your grill when we go to the Fox theater. The food is good and the prices are competitive. The noise level is quite high, a problem, as my hubby and I are hard of hearing, even though we wear hearing aids. Then again, we have the same problem at all the restaurants. It's nice that you give a discount too (with a coupon).
It's one of our favorite restaurants, however, this time our visit was not perfect. My scallop risotto was delicious, BUT there were no scallops in it. Also, our son used the men's bathroom and said it was disgusting. We told our waiter and he took 10% off of our bill.
Food is very good, not out of this world, service is always out of this world, everyone very friendly and accommodating. From the moment you walk in they make you feel like you are part of their family. Mix/match items from the menu, no problem. They check up on you an appropriate amount of times, water is always filled.
Food was excellent as usual. We eat here before going to a play at the Fox and always have plenty of time and are not rushed, even on a Sat. night.
One minor glitch with the pricing on after dinner drinks, but the waiter took care of it
immediately without question.
Looking forward to returning.
We went here for dinner before going to a play at the Fox Theater. The location was very convenient, and the food and cocktails were excellent and not too pricey. The restaurant supports the theater by offering ticket holders a 15% discount. That was a nice perk.
We didn't want to be stuck in rush hour traffic so a last minute decision for dinner while returning home from an appointment. We were ready to dine elsewhere when we remembered that this place had a special steak menu dinner for Wednesday nights. We were not disappointed! The steaks were excellent and the services great. Love this place and will be coming back again! :)
Arrived a bit earlier than our reservation so the only available seats were outside. Though chilly, we sat next to a heat lamp and warmed up with food and wine. Were glad we did given how much more crowded and noisy it seemed to be inside.
Our waiter was excellent, pacing our meal according to our wishes. He was there when we needed, but left us space when we wanted. Each course came quickly once we requested it.
We started with the fried green beans, which were hot, crisp, mildly spicy....a fun starter. The pear salad was ok, but not as tasty as similarly salads in many other restaurants. However it large enough for 2 generous (split) portions. The prawn cappelli and fish entree were competent and satisfying, though not exciting or particularly creative, and could have used more seasoning. The tiramisu was very large and quite good.
Overall, we found this was a very good choice for a pre-movie relaxed dinner, though not someplace to go to as a destination in and of itself, unless some of the other dishes are more interesting. We liked it enough to return and try more of the menu...perhaps in warmer weather.
We decided to reserve here because of the close proximity to the movie theater in Redwood City. The interior seating was much smaller than I expected. We had to wait less than 5 minutes to be seated. Service was sub-par but there was an event earlier on the square and apparently it brought a rush of patrons. The food and drinks were reasonably priced. The fried green beans were a big hit for our table and the only item that came out hot from the kitchen. I would probably try them one more time before I made my final decision but overall found it to be a good location and price for a bite before or after seeing a movie.
