Very good food w very reasonable prices
Tried the salmon, ahi tuna, avocado appetizer
This place was great. I look my boyfriend to lava hot springs for his birthday. He got the bison and I got the salmon. The bison was AMAZING. We loved it! The salmon was great it fell apart. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sauce it came with but that was just personal preference because my boyfriend loved it. And can I just say their rolls were soooo good and addicting!!! The salad was phenomenal as well. I requested ahead of time that they bring out a slice of cake with a candle on it and they did! The only thing I can say a little negative about it was that it was kind of expensive for the amount of food you got. Otherwise this place is perfect! Compliments to the chef!
It was a great restaurant experience with wonderful food and an attentive wait staff. The chef came out to speak with us before and after the meal. Very impressive. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to a friend or anyone in Lava Hot Springs and the surrounding areas.
I mentioned to the waitress that this was a special occasion (my wife's birthday), we were in no rush and wanted to linger. She awkwardly greeted us with weird side-eye and mentioned that there would be others arriving later for dinner. At that time 1 other table was occupied, 9 were empty and no one else showed up.
The salad tasted the like the refrigerator. I ordered the bison sirloin, medium rare, ($38) and it was the consistency of shoe leather. I gave a piece to each family member, there we were like cows working their cud. The waitress asked how we were doing, I mentioned the toughness of the meat. Her quick reply seemed rehearsed, she'd obviously heard it before. After I paid the bill and signed the CC statement I noticed a discrepancy with the price of our appetizer. On the menu it was $16. On our bill it was $18. Feeling duped, I mentioned this to our server who brought it to the attention of the manager who also appeared to be the chef. A short, rotund gentleman appeared from the kitchen and proceed to "make it right" by correcting the $2 overcharge. After requesting an explanation, he said they revamped the appetizer selection and "forgot to change the price". I wish I'd followed up with a specific question on the date of the revamp... How many people were ripped off before me? The special occasion for our gathering was never mentioned. Cheapest glass of wine - $11. Cheapest bottle - $38.
I'll say this...cocktails were great, my kids fries were good and the dessert was ok. Everything else was terrible. I mean terrible. This place has a great web-site but it does not live up to its billing. I would never eat there again. Over-Rated!
Wonderful food. One of the best pork chops I’ve ever had - very nicely seasoned and served with a baked pear covered with nuts and goat cheese.
When we go to Lava Hot Springs to soak, we look forward to eating at the Portneuf Grill & Lounge. Excellent choices for those who prefer healthy options. Food prepared well. We always order the scallops as an appetizer--deluxe. The fish entrees have been perfectly prepared. Fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation.
A great find. Cozy little B&B. Alonzo the chef was great. Didn’t think we would find a meal like that in Lava. We will be back.
The food is fantastic here. Both the chef and the waitress were very attentive to our needs. The ambiance was quaint, unhurried and quiet. We will definitely be back again.
I was glad I made a reservation! As it was the off season they only had one cook on site. I really appreciated that they would rather have empty tables than let our meal suffer. The food was magnificent. I had vegan avocado tacos, and the home made vegan sour cream was phenomenal. I will definitely be returning the next time I'm in the area.
Very good for a higher end food experience. Waitress was very nice and positive. Not cheap but the quality of food, obviously a good chef is involved, is well worth the higher and appropriate pricing.
Hidden Gem! Portneuf Grille is located downstairs of the Riverside Hot Springs Inn. The bar was quaint and a fun place to get a cocktail. There is a happy hour from 4:30PM to 5:30PM. The service was attentive, we were greeted by the chef at he end of our meal which was a nice touch. There was a nice selection of vegetarian and vegan options and the chef was willing to accommodate to meet my dietary needs. 4 out of 5
The pumpkin pasta with sausage was excellent. We invited my daughter and her husband to dine with us and they both enjoyed their meal very much. The chocolate lemon cheesecake we had for dessert was the best cheesecake I have ever had.
From our waitress, to the chef and pastry chef all greeting us with genuine personalities and awesome service - we really felt at home - and the food was incredible!
Dined here over the weekend and it was pretty good. I had Butternut Squash soup as an app which was delightful, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Only complaint was the sauce was overpoweringly sweet and my salmon was soaked in it. My boyfriend had the pork chop which also tasted great. Service was great, decor needs a little extra love but overall a good experience.
Great food and well worth the price. If I were to give any recommendation (not that it needs it) but the entrance could use a bit more flare. But besides that, it's the best food I've ever had!
This place has amazing food! We traveled two hours to partake of this special occasion meal. Birthday and Anniversary celebration. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender and flavor bursts throughout. The other menu items were outstanding as well. If you're ever in the neighborhood, this one is well worth the effort to get there!
very good flavors on meals that one does not normally see in local resturants.
Exceeded expectations! At first I was sceptical but then the food was absolutely amazing.
Salmon was good. Bread was delicious. New York strip was tough and tasted odd. Too pricy.
Best meal we had in 3 weeks of traveling thru Utah and Idaho. Live music with Sweet Wednesday was excellent.
Thank you Alonso for the delicious food, drinks and conversation!
Very friendly chef and waitress. The room is awful, green or brown indoor/outdoor carpet, old wood paneling, asbestos ceiling tiles. Very ugly and outdated. Despite their best efforts the food is off the mark; I have the poke appitizer, with fresh cucumbers, frozen tuna and something else? All soaked in soy sauce. The dessert was a lavender creme brulee, very heavy perfume tasing of lavender, way too heavy on the lavender, tasted like soap.
Food was amazing, great service. The bartender was great, friendly and helpful. You could tell he loved his job.
The food was great. A very nice surprise. Will return on our next trip
We wanted to sit outside, but the noise from the A/C was a bit too much. Food and service was good.
The menu itself was limited . Almost everything had fish or mushrooms which in our case limited us severely. It was $75 for two plates of food (including tip) but we only had water and no dessert, so it was the simplest thing we could have ordered. The food was really good, but we were still hungry. It was "outdoor seating" which means plastic yard chairs, rusty cans over the top of exposed sprinklers/tripping hazards, people with their dos, other people in the hot tub, broken pallets, a large trash bin, a cart with bags of dirty laundry, there was no where to look and have a nice view. Blue jeans and a nice shirt seems way over dressed. The food just didn't fit the environment. It was way too expensive for the environment as well.
We find this the ONLY place in our area where we are guaranteed to get a good meal that is well prepared. As usual our meal on the 4th of July was awesome. We are troubled, however, with certain indications of management problems (for example several draft beers were out of stock even on a holiday, dishwasher AWOL, etc) and hope that Riverside Hotel can correct issues such as these so that this restaurant continues to thrive. Looking forward to the next menu!
It only took three hours from Boise to get to this gem of a getaway!! We booked last minute with Riverside Inn and this will now be our special place to rejuvenate. Amazing service, food, atmosphere and so many things to do...
Casual elegance fit for a foodie! Quaint little restaurant at the Riverside Inn in the charming little village of Lava Hot Springs. Who would've thought one could find world class food and cocktails here? Thanks to the expertise of the culinary staff led by Chef Alonzo, fine dining is possible in this casual atmosphere. And don't forget the live music every Thursday night featuring distinguished musicians from around the country!
A great little find in lava hot springs, you never know when your going to run across a great dinning experience this is one of them. The food is fabulous and the service was great. We make it a point to eat here when we are traveling thru.
My husband I went there to celebrate and we not disappointed. The food was delicious, it was a quiet atmosphere, and the service was prompt. I would recommend the Bison Rib Eye and the flaming chocolate cake! They were worth the drive.
The food was amazing and the service was great! I would definitely go back again!
Food was very good, staff friendly and helpful. Facility is very dated but does fit In with the overall feel of lava hot springs.
We had a great time! We loved our bar tender Alonso! We ate there at the bar the first night and it was the best food we had all trip! Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. I will definitely go back to these guys.
Lovely family reunion time. Betty and Alonzo attended to our needs. Sampler platter and cocktails were a culinary delight
I loved how quaint and quiet this place was. There were many menu options that you just don't see every day. The food was divine and although our server seemed a little new she was very helpful and on top of everything. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in town again.
The prime rib was the best I have ever had, the side dishes were delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxing! I will definitely be back for more!!
Food is hit and miss. Pork chop was amazing, and clams were pretty good, but egg noodle primavera was disappointing. Thick, alfredo-like sauce - primavera should be light. Our service was terrible, waited 20 minutes for drinks and the restaurant was not at capacity. Server took plates away before we were finished, appetizer came out before our drinks arrived, server took menus away before we were ready to order. It's hard to feel like we were being rushed when everything took so long, yet somehow she made us feel hurried and forgotten at the same time. For the higher price point, I would expect fine-dining quality service.
I enjoyed our dinner night out. Service was very good and the food was very delicious! Live music kept us entertained. The only thing I did not really care for was the "looks of the room" (ambience)- very dingy; needs a woman's touch and some friendly/ clean looking colors to brighten up the room. Maybe start by placing fresh cut flowers on the tables to make it all look a bit more inviting and friendly. Maybe use plates with a colored trim etc. But all the staff was super friendly and accommodating. They made sure we were taken care of in the best way possible.
The food was amazing! The chef plated the food beautifully. I would recommend this place to anyone for a nice dinner.
