The two best things were the salad and dessert. The prime rib was tuff and the shrimp had no taste, mashed potatoes were blah. Nothing like the old days. We have tried many times to give them a chance to be great again. Not happening!!!
Portland Prime has a great atmosphere...quiet but vibrant. This was Xmas evening but the service was timely and the food is always great
Part of the joy of the holidays for many of us is dining out. Learning that Portland Prime had recently undergone a pretty extensive remodel, we decided to check it out during Christmas week. Having been there before, we knew the food was great, but the place was really dated from an appearance standpoint. I'm pleased to say the appearance now matches the food; both are outstanding. Carpeting has really brought the noise level down, the light color of the paint makes the place look more open, and the new furniture is very attractive and comfortable. I'd definitely recommend it to friends and will entertain guests there, as well.
Went during month of December so restaurant was loaded with Xmas parties so hard to comment on noise level!! Sounded like everyone was having a great time! But.....we go out quite often & to great places so we were quite disappointed with first confused greeting even though we had reservations. The service was marginal at best. Drinks took forever & came barely before appetizers arrived. Thank goodness the food was excellent & and all five of us were very satisfied with our meals. I would try the lobby bar for a snack & drink hopping for better service as the lobby is gorgeous!
Group of 14 for a short notice Christmas/Business Anniversary party. We arrived late. They were very cordial and tended to our stragglers quickly. Very good meal, reasonable prices, and great service. To accommodate a group of 14 during the Christmas season on short notice on a weekend night was a stroke of good fortune for us. Everyone's meal was good to great and everyone was taken care of by the wait staff. It could not have gone better. I wish I would have planned better and reserved their larger space.
Good food and service but overpriced compared to other compatible places in Portland. Wine especially high priced for the same choices in other similar restaurants nearby.
We've dined at Portland Prime when it first opened many years ago and fell in love with their steaks, cocktails, and amazing service, but over the years things slowly went downhill so it has been a while since we were there last. We decided to try it for our anniversary dinner since they have changed the menu. I must say, I was very impressed. It was like it was when it first opened! I had the 8oz filet, and my husband had the duck. The sides were generously portioned, the cocktails were delicious (one of the best gin martini's my husband ever had). The ONLY thing I would recommend for improvement is to give a little more room between the booth seating and the table. Not easy to get in and out of.
Our party thought the Steak Cuts were good; Prime Rib, Filet's - tasty. The accompaniments could have been better; didn't taste piping hot/fresh but were tasty. Good local wine list and we thought the ambiance was nice. Not as upscale as a Ruth's Chris, Donovan's or Flemings (if you know those). We were disappointed with the dessert selection . They offered a "red, white & blue cake" which was green instead of blue and the icing tasted old. Frankly I'm not certain why they even offered it didn't come out correctly. The server didn't acknowledge or listen to our comments about it..i.e, take it off our bill. Server didn't present the restaurant/menu in the upscale fashion others do. Could have done more to make our experience better and direct us to the best they had to offer. We might try it again.
After calling a few places for Thanksgiving dinner, we were immediately sold after we called Portland Prime. The guy texted a picture of the menu and was super helpful. They had our table ready with two high hairs and the location was perfect. We felt like we were in our own dining room! The service was great too. Some servers are put off by kids... not Kevin. He totally rolled with our group's quarks. The food was perfect! I have never like Thanksgiving sweet potatoes until Portland Prime. The turkey was great too. The calamari and lobster was so fantastic we ordered a second. The filet worth it too. And of course the Turtle Brownie with ice cream turned into a spoon war. The Pinot was smooth and tasty too. Go and get great customer service, great food and great ambiance! BTW, I'm a super picky diner and have worked in fine dining in the past for over a decade.
We visited while traveling in Oregon. Across the street from Voodoo donuts which was a plus. No free parking which was not a plus. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about, but definitely edible. The fried green tomato caprese salad was great. This is the item that most impressed me. They were cooked to perfection then stacked with mozzarella and then topped with balsamic reduction. I would swing by for another taste of these. My plate was missing the potato, but was quickly taken care of when I mentioned it.
Fried green tomato stack with mozzarella and balsamic was amazing!
Portland's finest steakhouse! Perfect cuts of beef, superlative service and a wonderful wine list. The new pastry chef and the much improved dessert menu are a perfect capper to any fine meal had here. Want to indulge or take a taste before a big splurge here? Duck in for the excellent bar menu!
My boyfriend raved on how it was the best filet he had ever had. Service was incredible.
The wedge salad and Steak Diane were terrific. Portion sizes were good. We appreciate the good service of Patti.
I did not bring it up since our server was so kind, polite and wonderful but the salmon was undercooked and bathing in oil. The food quality gets worse each time I go, but now finally they are sinking lower than rock bottom. No wonder the restaurant is empty on weekdays and half empty on weekends even with the specials they keep running.
We went to Portland Prine for my husband's birthday. He lives a good steak house and was not disappointed. The service was prompt and friendly. We had a very pleasant evening!
I can't say why I didn't just love this place. The chairs were beyond comfortable, the food was good, the service was fine, but the entire experience just didn't come together. Of course I'd just spent 4 days eating breakfast and dinner at places like The Imperial, Jakes, Urban Farmer, and so on. Maybe I was just foodie outed.
Truly delicious food with a great wine list and terrific service. Pricy but truly a treat! There are a few booths in the bar that give you both food and the amazing Mel Brown Trio!
This was a first time visit, using a voucher which allowed an appetizer, two entrees, and a glass of wine for each of us for $75. We were certainly glad to have the voucher once we saw the prices on the menu. Our server was very nice and explained how it worked, and made some suggestions. The wine (white) was a nice Chardonnay, our appetizer(scallops wrapped in bacon) was very good. My companion ordered a nice steak, which he enjoyed, and I ordered the halibut & prawns, again quite good and a generous serving. The side dish for the fish (quinoa, I believe) was good but a bit too generous and adding some veggies would have been better.
Service was excellent. It was a Friday night and it was not crowded...2 or 3 other couples there at 7pm. A band started up in the nearby lounge, and we enjoyed the music from our table in the dining room.
Parking lot across the street, about $8. The restaurant does not validate.
Portland Prime is consistently good. They have well trained staff that are knowledgeable on all menu items and the wine list. Our server was Aaron B and he was outstanding!! Great meal and service!!
My husband and I enjoyed a very nice romantic dinner, then moved over to the bar side for a additional drinks and continued conversation, while listening to a jazzy set by the Mel Brown Trio. It was a wonderful time and all staff were welcoming, personable, and very attentive. Great food, service, and ambiance. We'll definitely come again and refer others!!
A wonderful dinner with friends from out of town. It was their first time to Portland and we wanted to show them what Portland had to offer. I took them to Portland prime and it was amazing. The staff was great and made each of us feel at home. The food was great as well. The waiter was very nice and kind.
I will return to this establishment time and time again. After they returned home they thanked me again for the wonderful dinner.
Portland Prime is a gem of a restaurant. The venue is lovely, quiet and inviting. The service has always been excellent and the food is good.
Had an anniversary dinner here three years ago and this time brought my adult daughters for a girls weekend....they were very impressed that Mom knew of a place this elegant!....Also, the restaurant's special of an appetizer, entrée, dessert and glass of wine for $29 fit Mom's budget. Two of us had the prime rib...DELICIOUS and the other one had the salmon. One bite of her salmon and she could not stop eating it until it was done. And she's the picky one. Great Job Portland Prime. Lastly, the meal filled us up so full, we didn't have room for Voodoo Donuts.
i was having a really bad birthday prior to coming here, but the live music, ambiance, amazing customer service & the FOOD made it into a lovely night. Thanks Portland prime for also being so accommodating even though my reservation changed last minute. Such a beautiful restaurant. I'd suggest this location to everyone
Prime rib was great but like I said my wife's cut was mostly fat. The server was very nice did a great job.
Very nice atmosphere for a date or special occasion. Food was pricey for the portion you get. Overall the staff was very nice and attentive.
Prime is one of our reliably good dining experiences and we will return over and over. Exceptional meat and a quiet, lovely atmosphere with very friendly and expert hospitality.
The food menu is great, and the food itself is tasty. I liked our server since he was very polite and patient. He let me do a sauce substitution for the salmon entree. Of course, the desserts were heavenly.
Food was fantastic.
We had the Special fixed price menu
And portions were perfect
I did like the place but for the money , not
it was so dark in bar couldn't see menu , then was rushed to order , not good
We had a very good experience. Our food was very good and it was nice that the corkage fee was only $15. An atypical slow Friday night which was nice too.
We went for an early dinner at 6:30, and were seated almost immediately. The restaurant was rather empty at this time. Service was excellent, and the food was wonderful. I don't think I've had a better prime rib. My only complaint would be that it was quite fatty-but the flavor was amazing. We would definitely recommend Portland Prime for a special dinner occasion, and will return.
Delicious! Large portions with enough to take home for later!
This is a very nice place for dinner. Tastefully decorated and a friendly staff. The food never disappoints and the waiter does not try to push add on sales. Price is reasonable also.
Always good service and great food, cost is on the high side and they don't cover parking anymore.
We ordered Prime Rib and after waiting 1/2 hour or more, the waitress came and told us the kitchen said they were out of Prime Rib but not to worry because they were cooking us a rib eye for the same price!! The steak showed up after another 1/2 hour, full of fat,and gristle.Should have sent it back but we were out of time. Then the girl brought the check and after 15 mins, never came back for the payment. We left the money on the table and left!!!
Great staff, the manager spoke to us and after learning it was our anniversary he treated us to drinks and dessert. The house jazz band is phenomenal. Best prime rib in Portland!
Amazing food. Amazing waitstaff. Fun and enjoyable experience.
Ghastly Expensive! My wife and I split a Entree and Salad along with one glass of house wine each. No Appetizer and No Desert, $93.00 with out Tip.
Impossible to Justify
