Portland City Grill Ratings and Reviews
I booked a reservation 3 weeks ago. I arrived at the restaurant on time and they gave me a table with furniture that had ripped and torn upholstery. I had to ask the hostess for a new table without torn upholstery and with a window seat which is what booked on my reservation 3 weeks earlier. The hostess said no problem except I might now have to wait for an additional 1/2 hour for a better seat.
I've made many reservations at the Portland City Grill. Consistently we get a bad table in the beginning. After complaining we are the seated at a better table. It should not be this hard to go out for a special brunch priced at $45 per person.
I liked our waitress, Sarah, and the Omelet chef was awesome.
Everything was great besides the hostess had a bad attitude when she told us I️ have to wait an hour for the special request I️ made when I️ submitted my reservation (window seating). I️ would appreciate them calling me and maybe telling me ahead of time and not when I️ already got to the restaurant..
Went there with business colleagues for my birthday celebration. I travel to Portland often for business and have been trying different places. The views are gorgeous, great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. I will be going there again when I get the chance.
We went for the brunch buffet and both the food and the service were mediocre. Since this is a very expensive restaurant, I was definitely expecting a better experience than something that seemed comparable to an included hotel breakfast. The view is great though.
The food is suburb and the atmosphere and view should offer a promise for a nice evening. However, the service at the bar was slow - it took almost 30 minutes to be served a drink, and the martini I ordered was not what I ordered and it was only slightly cold.
If you want a table by the window, you must arrive about 45 minutes before your reservation. The hostess staff does not pay attention to your request to sit by a window and window views come on a first come first serve basis. If you are celebrating a special occasion and have more than four people, you will not be able to sit by a window as they only have 4-tops. So if you requested a window seat, as we did, with a party of five, you won’t even get the decency of a call telling you that won’t be possible - you will find out when you arrive, as we did.
So PCG may have great food, but they are not the exceptional quality restaurant one would hope for given the promise of it all with its location and atmosphere. Management should rethink their approach to service and should invest in more staff members at the bar area.
What a wonderful evening my husband and I had at Portland City Grill! Everything was exceptional, from the food to the service. The view is amazing, and making reservations made our wait quick, even though there was a large crowd. We celebrated a birthday there, and were treated to a lovely time. The food was supreme. I highly reccommend Portland City Grill.
Reservations were easy to make but you could not reserve any window tables. The point of going up to the restaurant is the amazing view. We were sat in the center and you couldn't really see any of the views. The lighting was very dim inside and it almost made my friends and I fall asleep (probably because of our long hike earlier in the day) but maybe that was just us. I got the clam chowder and that was really good. For my main plate, I got the scallops and those weren't so good. I was expecting a good savory seafood flavor but got a sweet flavor instead. The price you pay for these meals are very intense and expensive but if you get a nice view of the windows it is worth it. I would check it out once if it were my first time in Portland. Probably wouldn't come back though.
Me and my girl friend went her for our first dinner of Portland trip.
We arrived around 5 on Friday night, the waitress told us 50 mins waiting for view seat which is acceptable since the view seat was not allowed in reservation. Then we chill at the bar during the waiting time, their Bloody Mary is really good!
I ordered Filet Mignon and she ordered Lamb, both were very tasty.
Will come visit again.
Arrived a little ahead of our reservation
Found a seat in a very crowded bar, but were attended to right away. Once taken to our table we were forgotten about. Nevet saw another employee. Watched people who were seated after us get waited on. After 45 to 50 minutes of that we left.
Great view, superior food.
A return visit to this favorite Portland view restaurant was extremely satisfying. Wild salmon and fresh-caught Alaska halibut highlighted an enjoyable meal as two old friends caught up. Salad, described by our waiter as "enormous," was tasty but skimpy when divided. Vegetables, however, were plentiful and delicious. No additional charge for fresh butternut squash and garlic string beans.
My halibut was offered crab-stuffed, but the kitchen kindly provided a simple grill, which was excellent.
Service was good, not great. Our waiter grimly pressed his specials and menu preferences on us and would not be diverted. Disappeared after entreé delivery and was oblivious to signal.
We were too full for dessert. Coffee was good (surprisingly, not great in coffee-conscious Portland). No offer of a 2nd cup.
Even with a celebrated chef dé cuisine, this is not (yet) an ambitious restaurant. Still the food was very good; the view and general ambiance were terrific. Service could've been more attentive, although the restaurant was packed and very busy. I rate this meal as a success and would return without hesitation.
This place came highly recommended by local friends. So we (visiting from Cali) decided to give it a shot for my birthday dinner. While we loved the ambience, views and seating - the food was terrible. The Kung Pao calamari was bland and too much on the plate ruined our appetite. The special soup corn chowder was salty, braised pork was again nothing to brag about. Overall a poor choice for a special occasion, sorry we really wanted to love this experience but the food was a definite let down!
Excellent experience at City Grill. The service was top-notch and the food is good, although not exceptional. The view of the city, river, and bridges is incomparable. The staff made our 7 year old granddaughter feel very special for her celebration dinner.
We were there for lunch. It was Sunday Brunch only so we ate that. I️ ordered the Belgian Waffles and two eggs over medium. My sister went through the line.
The waitress acted like she was exhausted and wanted to get out of there. The two 2”x2” tiny pieces of waffle came on a salad plate and two tiny, maybe 1 1/2” eggs on another tea cup plate. The buffet was ok, but mostly fattening foods. We had no drinks, just tea. It was $45.00 each. Total $90.00.
It was a good location because it was overlooking the city but we didn't get to sit near the window because we were told it was a different waiting list which was fine. Our server was great! She was very accommodating, fun and nice. Out table was decorated with little confetti cut outs of "Happy anniversary" which was thoughtful.
When we received our steaks (I had the surf and turf and my husband had the ribeye), the food was not warm anymore. We're thinking because there was so many people to be served maybe the food was sitting in the kitchen waiting to be served. Our out was a 2 our of 5 because for the taste and temperature, it was overpriced we feel.
Been here a couple times already. Came to celebrate a birthday, which was nice overall, but difficult to conversate, sit back and enjoy the evening. The food was tasty - oven roasted beet salad (amazing!), sister ordered - macadamia nut crusted chicken, another sister - apple salad, friends - sushi rolls. Service was good too, but it is crowded, loud and not as romantic as you'd think it'd be, considering it's one of the 'best' places in Portland. Would pick my occasions going forth of when to come back.
My husband and I have been here several times. It was my birthday and I was so impressed by the calamari last time that’s what I wanted. This time I was not
Impressed. It was cold and over cooked. In fact, I must say I was so disappointed we left half the calamari on the plate, ate our salads and left before the entree. I was disappointed as we have not had a bad experience in the last 3 years.
